I'm totally about fashion before function (unless they're ugly Mage hats in dragon age origins because I will make everyone wear those cowls for the lolz). Thankfully for a Mage I can make some super powerful armor and still have it be my best. I can't remember if my rogue Lavellan was able to do the same.Last night, before I went to bed, I listened to some music and that certainly didn't help with the feels because I'm back to hellspiraling in two languages.
I was going to get my new end save last night but I started running around Skyhold, tried the wardrobe, and then began crafting armor and stuff for people. Then I thought I was ready to go fight Cory when I realized I should make Solas a different staff and maybe strip his armor accessories but by then I didn't feel like going back. And then that will really seal up my waiting. Sigh.
There's a pretty nice stats-wise rogue armor from The Descent but it looks horrible on non-dwarves. I put it on Varric. My Lavellan would look like Baymax wearing it.

That's completely different... Didn't that guy pull a knife on her? Making her actions self-defence.
Yes. And she admits that what she was doing was brutish and felt terrible. That's why she stopped after this and is big on diplomacy. She's not like a psycopathic killer. Murderer is a really strong word. She's a mercenary -- and she was fighting another mercenary during the course of a contract.
And for the general populace about Solas' guilt:
And neither is Solas for that matter. He just makes sweeping decisions sometimes -- with thought -- and they can have very bad consequences. He may even recognize the things he do will cause a lot of good people to die, but he views that 'in the long run' it will save more. And sometimes those decisions ARE wrong. At the end of the day - despite his knowledge - he's still a person and still faillable. That's sort of the point of the characters.

It seems like Ghilan'nain got in between Falon'din and Dirthamen. Her mural is in Dirthamen's temple, along with his brothers.
And halla with wings would've been useful.
It certainly seems like Ghilan'nain got around lol... But IMO she kind of seems to me like a mix of Aphrodite and Persephone? I think some of the paintings we see are maybe depicting a journey through the underworld?

Oh wait, correction - something like a cross between Baymax and Bowser. It looks totally fine on Varric though. On tiny rogue Lavellan...no.
I have helmets off, but man, everyone is in ridiculous helmets. And a reminder that I need to make Solas a helmet so he doesn't run off with the DLC drop he's wearing.

One of the theories over on the lore boards that they originally shared a body, before Mythal(?) trapped Falon'Din in the Fade as punishment for starting a war. There's definitely something weird about the relationship between the two.
Fingers crossed for massive Pantheon lore on Tuesday.
I've seen a theory that Falon'Din and DIrthamen might be the same man (elf?) but with schizophrenic personality disorder (or w/e its called now), which fits the lore in my opinion and would also be really cool.

It's just schizophrenia. It doesn't actually work that way. And it is an incredibly depressing and sad thing to watch someone who suffers from it and it's really really really not cool.
Sorry to get all tumblrina on you but no to this.

I have to say that I am not really on board with the Falon'Din had schizophrenia scenerio....but if for whatever wild reason it turned out true Falon'Din would have my utmost sympathy because as Kissiebear said.......it's really not cool and it is indeed a very sad thing to watch someone suffer.
Like, Fen'Harel clearly has issues......but this would be a whole different ball park of feels to be honest.

Falon'Din and Dirthamen are androgynous, erotic "brothers." I will accept nothing else.
Also, I would be careful ascribing mental disorders to characters we know from codex entries.
Haha, suddenly got a flashback to my favourite anime and the "erotic twin brothers" Kaoro and Hikaru from Ouran Host Club XD

what happens if we play Descent on Tuesday and realise the Arlathan is just a glorified, androgynous version of Ouran? The anime has exactly the right amount of glitter involved for our beloved pantheon.

Fen'Harel is the trickster god right? What gods would you compare him to from our world's mythology? I think he has a lot in common with Loki, a cunning anti hero who uses his mind to overcome his foes, with a healthy dose of magic and manipulation thrown in.

Does that mean Solas is Haruhi? "Damn old elves."
Meanwhile the whole pantheon is being Tamaki. "Dread Wolf notice meeee!"

I have seen a lot of meta analysis on tumblr about DA characters depicting various mental illnesses. Some of it is interesting, and I can see some parallels, but then we can't necessarily assume it is always intentional on the part of the writers. I believe Anders was one character where the writer did come out and say parallels to manic depression were intentional. But I don't know of any others. So who knows.
It might also just be symbolism. It's pretty common in real world myths for gods to transform, merge, or have dual natures, etc. So maybe it isn't meant to be taken too literally either. They may not explain exactly what happened to Mythal's power/soul when Solas absorbed it, for instance. I guess we will know soon enough.

Seems like he is predominantly Loki with a little bit of Fenrir thrown in. Maybe Coyote too?
I have a theory that after Loki became insanely popular, they went back and decided to alter Solas's personality to be contrary to the trickster archetype. You can kind of see remnants of a much more mischievous and plotting Solas in some of his original concept art.

OMG YAS!
Wouldn't Solas most likely be Kyoya - intelligent, little bit condescending, high goals, sometimes a bit naive, seems like kind of an a** but really cares about people ^^

Well they did admit that Solas was once a more direct liar. I am SO glad they went with the direction they decided though. Lies by omission, obscuring details, pain, layers, gray areas, a heavy dose of obvious compassion, mystery....and the ability to break out the smoothness when he wants to. ![]()
I didn't feel betrayed, or even deceived, they did a great job making us understand him, his pain, his motives, especially if you romanced him the first playthrough. I'm not saying for a player or a Lavellan to feel that way would be wrong, it wouldn't. My Lavellan would feel a bit differently than I do as the player. I was mostly just kind of knocked over a bit by the feels and grateful he had such depth.

Hm, given that Andraste is born several years after the first blight (and I'm inclined to believe she has little to no link to it), the fact that the Darkspawn would worship Marefarth is... odd. Even odder is how those statues got into the Deep Roads in the first place, unless humans had settlements down there back when dwarven-human relations were good, but most humans worshipped the Tevinter Old Gods at that point - the deep roads had been overrun by the time Marefarth entered the scene.
I'm inclined to think either a) Marefarth was an agent of the Old Gods of some kind, hence his presence,
pockets of the Deep Roads remained protected for longer than we thought (or are as of yet undiscovered), and that includes newer human settlements (which would be fascinating if true), or c) the designers screwed up.

Loki? No. At best, Loki is similar to how elven lore sees Fen'Harel - someone chaotic, who does mischief for the sake of mischief, or for sewing destruction.
Prometheus (whose name translates to "forethought") on the other hand is far more likely an actual basis, especially seeing all the other similarities between Greek and elvhen panteon and their myths.
Prometheus was a Titan who sided with Olympians during Titanomachy, and they valued him for his wisdom and saw him as one of their own - similarly as Fen'Harel was accepted among both Creators and Forgotten Ones at one time.
He also acted against gods or tricked them not out of love of trickery, but to help people, whom gods treated unfairly. Some myths even claimed that he saved humanity from being wiped by cruel gods. His most famous deed was bringing back fire to humans (which can be viewed both literally, or as a metaphor for knowledge/enlightenment) - and what does Solas holds in his tarot card?
Yup. Fire.
Then there's the fact that Prometheus' story is tragic - some may argue that Loki's is as well, but Loki got punished for a deed, which not only seemingly had no greater goal, but brought much sadness and chaos. Prometheus on the other hand acted out of sympathy towards the downtrodden, and for that he paid the price of losing pretty much everything ("There are few regrets sharper than watching fools squander what you sacrificed to achieve").

Playing through Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts right now. Jeez, forgot how much of a drag that ruddy quest is, even with several run-throughs under your belt. Plus uncompleted quests like the coins and the rumours really irritate me, though if I want my chosen ending, I know I'll just have to let it slide.
Doesn't matter though, cause Solas is drunk and happy watching it all unfold. I just wish they'd taken that stupid hat off his head with it's metal bit lobotomizing him.
Also, I'm glad that this thread is spoiler free for the upcoming DLC. Some people really need to learn patience.

The same was true of Varric in his first concept incarnation. Hard to imagine Varric being sleazy and underhanded, and I'm glad we got who we got with him. Same with Solas. Especially since we already had Blackwall to fill the role of dirty liar. They'd have been way too similar otherwise.

Gareth David-Lloyd played him drunk a little too well. I laugh everytime he is slurring when he's talking lol and how quickly he sobers when Cole gets upset at the bodies we find in the Servants Quarters, then you talk to him after that, he's drunk again. Gotta love recycled dialogue. ![]()
