I'm chatty tonight sorry.

But I want to say I'm about half through The Last Flight and I think it's fairly good about portraying the blight after having one go on for years. Its much worse than in Origins where we kill the Archdemon like 3 days later.

Nothing wrong with chatting! :)

I know! It's amazing how long that Blight lasted! The fifth one was a record-breaker for shortest Blight ever! We as the players were just that good! Lol j/k

You guys ever get Solas' banter when you near the mine with the OG? Why is he so bitter at Wardens for trying to slay Archdemons?

Dorians were great.

Had my usual Solas, Dorian, and Cassandra with me. I went there right before bed.

I did it late at night too and Cole sounded like he was trying to read me a bad scary story around the campfire! "It knows we're here!"

Sadly the atmosphere loses the creepy factor when you step outside into the bright sunlight! Should have been nighttime for that one!

Well if everyoneee mentioning their favorite areas..

The memory is fresh in my mind.

I like Western Approach, maybe because it's a good area to level up after Skyhold. I also like the landscape.

I like Emerald Graves, it's soooo pretty. But I hate the giants, and some of the rifts. I finished Emprise Du Lion (besides the dragons) before Emerald Graves because there is this one pesky, mother flippin', rift that is SUPER HARD.

I really don't like Fallow Mire, it's tough for lower levels and.. those.. corpses.. They give me the heebie-jeebies.

But I think I dislike Forbidden Oasis the most, stupid terrain, stupid cave with too many spiders. It's a freakin' maze as well, in my first 2 PTs I got lost so easily, even though I have a freakin' map XD

Edit:

But if we are speaking about quests, then Exalted Plains.. Those Arcane Horrors.... Blegh.

Why would you do that?   That place is legitimately creepy - and I'm saying it as a person who isn't easily scared by 'horrorific' stuff. Yet all the corpses running at me with swords in utter silence give me the 1st class creeps.

I hate the Oasis too. The miner you give the wedding ring to was on the edge of a cliff and when I finally found out how to reach her, as we were talking Cole walks up and shoves me off. I landed right in front of the Giant at Solason and thought well ****... and then ran for my life!

Considering Felassan's revealing that a lot of the Arlathan nobility had their throats slits in uthenera by the furious lower classes, and that there are hints that the Old Gods are holding something even worse back...I can understand his bitchy sighs. :)

I love all of the desert maps. :D I grew up obsessing over Lawrence of Arabia, so it's to be expected.

Huh? People found it creepy? I thought it was just mysterious, and the story there was particularly fun to piece together from codex entries. It could be that I watch A LOT of horror movies, so I've gotten a bit immune to scares. (Oculus was great, BTW)

I dont mind the atmosphere of the Mire but every time you go in water which is allllll the damn time you have to stop and kill stop and kill stop and kill repeat repeat repeat

And I'm only chatty because my husband is home and it's Friday so he's got the xbox with his friends. I think he bought Madden this week.

I actually really like the Hissing Wastes. It's a romantic sort of desert, vast, empty, at night, the way all respectable deserts should be. The surface dwarven ruins are also very interesting.

But the Western Approach... the looks of it just makes me really sleepy, and except for the Still Ruins, I don't find any of the quests there appealing.

I've already figured out the route that helps me do most Western Approach quests 'along the way' (with the exception of dragon luring). I also quite like Coracavus, even if I wish it was more difficult.

The Exalted Plains can be a grind, but there are so many elfy things there plus Solas' personal mission, so it evens out to be a map I like.

I think I'm mostly annoyed by... eh, it's hard to call it a soundtrack. I get what they were trying to accomplish there - the continuous low 'buzz' is supposed to underline the bleakness of the place, together with washed out colors... But after some time it just sounds like nails screeching on chalk board to my ears and all I want to do is to evacuate from there :/

I have no shame in having skipped both the spider cave and the cave under Caer Bronach because...spiders. Hope she got her own ring back.

It was a big wtf moment for me. I thought if you are in the middle of a convo you can't be touched, but Cole proved me wrong.

I think the biggest and worst wtf moment for me was a dragon fight. Solas Fade Stepped off the cliff, and Varric followed with a backflip, then IB charged at the dragon with a thank you to me for the fight and was burned alive. I was left with half my life and 2 unreachable companions and a barbecued Qunari lying in front of the dragon.

It's not scary, it's just... Heebie-jeebie material.

It's mainly because I feel like I need to creep around in the dark and do stupid things so I won't wake up a horde of corpses.

Those beacons there, they stressed me out so bad  Terrors are so hard to fight at level 9.

Tonight Cole died on me in the Frostback Basin and the little revive button didn't come back and when the fight was over he didn't revive either and all the companions are just standing around him and I just pictured Sera kicking him a bit with her foot to get him up.

I had to leave the area and he was fine lol.

I like the Mire only in a sense that it provides some challenge for lower level characters, so I don't just run on automatic when I'm there. That's not to say that stirring the water and infinite wisps aren't annoying.

Anyway... had to laugh when I began the Mire once - almost exactly after Harding asks my IQ if she's afraid of corpses, a frikking lightning strikes right behind Quizzy's back!

"Yeah... I don't think the walking corpses is what I should worry about the most..."

I never went to the Mire early. I know it's a lower level area but I always saved it for mid game or later. I don't know why. I do like Sera and Dorian reactions to the Mire though.

LOL I hate when that happens! In Ashe's PT, her Solas died that way. It was so funny! In Descent they all kept dying on their feet and if you move toward them to revive them, they just moved around as if you were pushing statues.

Absolutely agree on that. Sound and the washed out colors made it look very bleak. In a somewhat realistic way too, because even though I knew I should feel bad for the plight of the Dales most of the time all I was feeling was boooored. But doing things for the Dalish clan, Solas, and the abundance of elven ruins gave me some poignant moments and I think I've headcanoned stories for most of the main missions and ruins in that map.

I did the same thing because I didn't realiz early on that other places aren't as gradually scaling as The Hinterlands so I didn't really leave The Hinterlands forever. by the time I got to certain other areas, like the Mire, I was more than three levels above and got no XP for entire regions.

Yeah, it's some sort of weird bug - got it from time to time. I usually sacrifice the upgraded healing grenade to revive them, since it works when it happens.

I would greatly enjoy that, but in this case it's just me being very mage-centric. I do it with my husband too. It always takes me a few extra seconds to realize someone doesn't play a mage.

But... that doesn' really disprove what I said about how the DA games are mostly about the player character "restoring order" by saving oppressive systems from crumbling (Chantry, Circles, monarchies, even Kirkwall's oligarchy) and returning power to the hands of the oppressive elite (nobles, clergy, privileged humans, etc). That the best we can do is maybe shift management over to more liberal leader of an oppressive system (Bhelen is kinder to casteless than Harrowmont, Alistair is better to city elves than Anora, Leliana and Cassandra are better Divines to mages than Vivienne, etc), and hope s/he treats the oppressed (casteless, mages, city elves, etc) better than the previous one/s.

I mean, characters who actively try to change things either are villains or are portrayed as destructively misguided for even attempting (Loghain for Ferelden DAO, Howe for the Couslands in DAO, the Arishok to Kirkwall in DA2 Act 2, Anders to the mage/Templar conflict in DA2 Act 3, Corypheus in DAI and Solas implied for future games), while characters who reactively try to undo the changes and restore the status quo (even one admitted to be inherently oppressive and corrupt like the Chantry, Circles, Kirkwall nobility, Orlesian Empire, etc) are the "good guys." (Which, incidentally, is always the side the player character is on.)

I just find it off.

So you guys didn't think that Solas was the hero actually? :P

I think you are right, this theme about restoring order is very prevelent in the series. It's a common fantasy genre trope: saving the kingdom. But, then again I find a lot of people who thought DA2 was about restoring order, seemed to really dislike that game, for all of Hawke's passivity, powerlessness, and inability to fix things.

This is one thing I'm really looking forward to in Trespasser, it sounds like ...
