300% of your variety? That's impressive :o

That's like, all the variety shows that exist, existed and will exist.

Yep, that's pretty much what I meant.

The reason why I stopped watching TV ages ago. I only turn it on to honor the Gods of Eurovision once a year.

WE HAVE MADE IT TO SUNDAY.

Spoiler

I've also read a theory that while Solas was Shartan, Mythal was in Andraste.  So if they've been friends at least since old elven times if not during Andraste's time too, why didn't he take the orb to Mythal to open instead of trusting it to someone that isn't of "his people."

I used to be totally on board with that theory, but these days I'm not so sure.  Explanation tucked under the spoiler, since nobody wants to get hit in the face with a page of neuroscience at 8am.

Oh, easily some vegetarian meat replacements. I've not eaten meat for.... five years? six years? Something like that. So I've tried most of them - some are excellent, but some of them are honestly terrible, just like eating plastic, yuck.

I think I also ate a magazine when I was seven years old for a dare. disgusting.

I only eat seitan XD

I'm not familiar with bad meat substitutes, the only thing that bothers me is when restaurants use tofu everywhere as if it's a requirement in meat-free dishes >_>.

I am personally disgusted by a dessert we have here, called malabi, it tastes like soap. First time I ate I was scared I'm going to die (I was 8 years old in my defense).

I love how multi-lingual the Solas thread is :) for those who have English as a second language, how best did you learn it? I'm trying to better my French (did five years of it at school, did another year at university, did a french film module, and wrote my final dissertation on a French writer without actually speaking much of the language). At the moment I can read newspapers really slowly with the aid of a dictionary, but I can barely speak it.

I find self-teaching pretty difficult so I wondered if other people had any tips and hints?

In Sweden we start studying english really early, I think I started when I was in second grade. Then it is mandatory until senior high school (I think that is the term?) when you're about 16 or 17 years old.

Plus the fact that basically all american and british TV shows that are broadcasted in Sweden are in english, we seldom dub movies or TV shows except if they are for children.

Personally, I started reading a lot of novels in english when I was about 12 years old since I enjoyed reading fantasy and wanted to read it in the original language. And videogames helped a lot too  :D

I also studied german for 6 years, but it is harder to be as proficient in it as in english since I don't have the videogames, books and TV shows in german to practice on :)

Went to Germany once though, but it was the southernmost part where they had this dialect that I couldn't understand a word of  :D

I use Duolingo to keep up my Spanish. I find it hard to follow on TV shows, it's usually spoken waaaay too fast.

Unless it's an ASMR video where they slow down (they're relaxation videos). I can listen to those while going to sleep.

Making cinnamon rolls is a major swedish national pastime  :D

It is impossible to find a café/bakery/grocery store that does not sell or make them. The latest trend is making them HUGE. We also have an entire day to celebrate the glory of cinnamon rolls (kanelbullens dag). 4th October <3

But I think it is not exactly the same as "international" cinnamon rolls? Spoilered for size

Spoiler

Now I got inspired and hungry, maybe I should make some

:crying:... Anything with large amounts of cinnamon will do for me! It's strange, because we have all types of sweet buns and pastries... just NOT with cinnamon!

I should go to Sweden, technically it's not too far away... (sad thing that I live near the southernmost corner of Poland )

Technically, I'm an American; me and my sis were born in Chicago. My family has a long story of migrating back and forth from Poland to US - and both my parents thought that the'd stay there for good. But when communist government began collapsing, they've decided that they want to try their luck in Poland. Been living here since I was 4 years old.

Therefore, naturally, Polish is my 1st language, but my parents always insisted that I and my sis should know English well, so we've had additional lessons, aside from classes in primary or high school. But as much as those additional English lessons gave me, nothing can really beat practice. I learned speaking English pretty fluently mostly by reading, typing, listening and speaking :) At this point I'm so used to English, that I'm using it almost exclusively on my computer or phone (my Windows, programs, games, etc are all in English) and stick mostly to English-speaking Internet sphere.

I'm completely intrigued about these "cinnabuns" or cinnabons or something similar. Heard about them from an American comedian and now I want to try them (not that his commentary was particularly complimentary).

BTW, what's the worst thing you've ever eaten? I had a thai sweet brought back by a work colleague. It was like a fruitella, except is was flavoured by the Durian fruit. It smelt like death and tasted even worse, like chewing on the rotten, fetid pustule of one of the dead from the Fallow Mire. The taste stayed in my mouth for hours afterwards. I almost want to try it again, just to see if it really was as foul as I remember or if i just imagined it all.

I hear that there's a kind of rotten fish made from tinned mackeral, or something similar, punctured to let air in and then kept to rot in a cupboard until it becomes almost fermented. Anyone tried that?

Yeah.... the rotten fish you are referring to is also Swedish (haha, I think my latest 5 posts or something has been about Sweden :D ).

It is called surströmming and it is absolutely vile. Don't believe it if people tell you that all swedes like it - it is basically the other way around but many people try it just to be able to say that they tried it once.

It is horrible but tastes better than it smells. Doesn't really say much though since the smell is not of this world

In Finland we also have those haha :D Btw nice to see I have some neighbours here too!! ^^ Greetings from Finland :)

But yes the reason we have å in Finnish keyboard is because our second language is Swedish ( You Swedish know but I meant for those who do not know )

Greeting fellow northerner! I am actually half finnish but sadly I don't know any finnish :(

I can say "Hyvää joulua" at least! And "koira" (since I study animals^^)

For all non finnish speakers here - it means merry christmas and dog. That is basically the full extent of my finnish B)

I see on tumblr people are preparing snacks for the DLC. I wonder if there's some sort of cake or dinner I could make that would be DA themed...

Two more days?

A friend talked me into attending a big expo and I'm pretty sure I caught what they like to call the "con-plague" but it was worth it! Got to meet 2 DA actors from DAO!

Not even any german apfelstrudel? Germany is at least a bit closer than Sweden so there should be some kind of variant of it imo :) Otherwise this should be rectified! I can share a recipe if you'd like

Edit: for swedish cinnamon rolls that is:) Don't have any apfelstrudel recipes ^^

I'm Filipino but I was born in Indonesia since my parents were living there for my dad's work. According to my mom, I used to speak only Indonesian when I was very young but she wanted me to learn English so she made me watch a lot of American TV shows and cartoons (back before Indonesia dubbed the American cartoons and TV shows to their language). Also, it helped that I was enrolled in an international school and since we in the class were of diverse backgrounds, we use English as a means of communicating with each other (and of course English was taught there too). I also read a lot of English books and comics as a child so there's that. ;)

Now, since it's been around 14 years since I left Indonesia, English is pretty much the only language I speak nowadays. I can't for the life of me speak Filipino though I could understand it for the most part, and I now lack practice in my Indonesian.

Aww that is so sweet!! I know some Swedish but I am VEERY bad at it still :( I never had someone who could help me too well and my teachers sucked so badly. But I can say some sentences haha You are so sweet! And I did not know that cinnamon roll's were also like national/traditional in Swedish! I wonder if Finland has learned it from there because Finland was part of Sweden for a long time. I know that they do not know in other European countries very well what they are haha.

Jag heter Janika vad heter du? Jag kan tala lite svenska. Hur mår du? Hur gammal är du?

omg I just feel like that I suck so badly.. I feel embarrassed. XD I understand more than I can speak or write :D

Not even that :( Maybe it's more popular near German border, but I happen to live on the side of Poland opposite to both Germany AND Sweden (well, Baltic sea)  <_<

And sure, you can send me a recipe :3

Cinnabon is the food of the Gods, if you're willing to shorten your lifespan a bit.   Such a tasty, tasty trade-off, though.

I've not played JOH but this made me laugh.

Huh.     It just struck me that almost no one in the U.S. would contract the "I have" rather than the "have not".  We go with "I haven't played" every single time- even though the alternative is perfectly valid English.

...or screw 'valid', more English than American English.   :D

Two days.  Not going to make it.   Grip on sanity getting weak.   Weeeeak.   Weeeeekes.
