I barely survived it at level 19 on causal and though you can reach level 27 there are level 30 monsters in a hidden area on the island you travel to by boat, so be careful!
By the time I beat it I was at level 22/23. I prefer playing it post-game because Corypheus is a walk in the park compared to some of the rift monsters there! That's why they give it a level 20 recommendation at the war table.

Solas, Iron Bull & Blackwall, Rift Mage Inqi.

Oh I know what you mean! It was horrible trying to kill that thing! it one-shotted Cole right in front of me, and when I went to revive him, it got me too.
I love how multi-lingual the Solas thread is
for those who have English as a second language, how best did you learn it? I'm trying to better my French (did five years of it at school, did another year at university, did a french film module, and wrote my final dissertation on a French writer without actually speaking much of the language). At the moment I can read newspapers really slowly with the aid of a dictionary, but I can barely speak it.
I find self-teaching pretty difficult so I wondered if other people had any tips and hints?
I'm French Canadian and live in Quebec. I've been raised bilingual so there was no learning curve for me, so to speak. My father was born in the States because his father was Native American and working there when he met my grandmother. She was 1/4 german 1/4 Irish 1/4 Native American and 1/4 french I believe. Unfortunately my Grandfather lost his language and cultural identity when he was beat by grey sisters in "reform" schools, like most of our tribe and a lot of others out there. My Grandmother never learned her father's native language for a multitude of reasons but mainly because of WWII, living in the states at that time meant ample opportunities to vent your frustrations and racism was an easy way to do that. Anyways, back to me. I lived in Montreal for two years and during that time I was able to see just how wonderfully, culturally diverse the population living there actually is. English is a second language to almost everyone in that city (you'd think french would be predominant).
One of the friends I met there was only French speaking. The way he learned English was by watching shows he loved in said language. He immersed himself culturally in American Entertainment. That's where he learned the things that are hardest to teach. Tone, double entendres, humor within context, sayings, cultural references etc. He became almost as adept as I was and I grew up with the language. He also of course had help from English speaking friends (like myself) when he had questions about all those cultural queues, but the knowledge was gained because of his desire to learn combined with something he loved (acting, cinema, television, musical performances, accents, comedy etc.) If you can't immerse yourself in the language, where it is native to the region then I'd suggest television and music as the next best thing. What's crucial is that you be invested in whatever you watch. If you're motivated then your attention to detail becomes a focus and you catch things you normally wouldn't. I gelled with English even when I was in a French culture. I went to English school and pursued my studies in English instead of going to french high schools and colleges like most of my peers after Elementary. I did so because I fell in love with cinema, video games, comic books, television, books, poetry. I'm very well spoken in french but I don't have any interest in it. Therefore, my written word suffers. That's only because my motivation isn't there.
Maybe I talked too much, but you get the gist of it. Make sure you ask yourself why you want to learn a particular language. If the reasons are right and you are very interested and intrigued, you'll find yourself learning quickly.

Ah, so you're trying to close the rift near camp? Yeah, there's a fear demon there.
Anyway - you have two mages... do you have dispel unlocked on both of them? It can be a life-saver - literally. You put dispel on 2nd wave of demons (when you see the goo on the ground, pick one of tthe goo mount with dispel - it will disappear) AND it can neutralize the fear demon's attack.
Anyway, who is killed the fastest there?
What's the level above hype called? Because I'm there.

You mean there is a point above hype that isn't "worn out from the hype"?

Bwaaaaaahaha - I knew someone would draw this eventually xD I bet that's the only reason Solas told Abelas to search for ancient elves - to knock him out an steal his gear! He has experience with that after all!

I really need to finish at least one of my other playthroughs. I want more of the "extra sauce". I got a Blackwall save, but I don't like my Trevallyan. And I haven't even gotten to Skyhold with Josie's intended...

I only have dispel for Solas, my Lavellan is sort of crowd control to back up the warriors...
Maybe I should unlock it, I'm close to leveling ![]()
Last time Blackwall went down like a fly, followed by Solas.
I did survive the first wave with nobody dying and tried to dispel two.. portal.. thingies.. with Solas but for some reason it failed, two despair demons came out instead ![]()
Sheesh, I knew Nightmare mode was a lie, it went too smoothly! This is the true nightmare.
So I've finally collected all the damn shards on my main Lavellen character. I've done all the quests available (except herd druffy the druffalo, lol). I still have some mosaics to finish and landmarks to collect.
I think I'm ready for Tuesday. Thing is: what do I do with myself for the next two days, now?

Hello fellow French Canadian! Shame I never got to learn my own language. I was raised away from Quebec, but my grandmother spoke it.

help
Since we have such a broad array of languages in the thread, anyone have a word for a combination of excitement and dread whose ever-increasing pitch borders on physical pain?
(German has to have something. German has all the great words. And If not, I hereby christen Aufregungspannungqual.)

I bet Solas got jelly over how his girlfriend stared at Abelas' thighs throughout the entirety of the Temple of Mythal - and so he took extra fashion tips. If he wanted to break some hearts, he'd do it in style.
I just had a look around the rest of the forums and realized... the feedback and suggestions section is gone? ![]()

Anyway - a lot depends what's the individual build for each companion - personally I build Blackwall as tankiest of my tanks and control him first to get on a combat field and receive most of the aggro (it does require either a lot of health or good guard generation) and Solas as my healer/crowd control.
Do you have pull of the abyss/fire rune combo unlocked? With some crit it can fry those despair demons like they're snowflakes. If you don't have the rune, then perhaps you have Immolate? It does good damage+some damage over time and can be spammed quickly. You can put it both on Inky and Solas to be a preferred ability, should do decent damage.
Also - if you lack DPS or health you probably want to use a lot of Veilstrike to punch down and weaken the worst offenders.

No, they moved it to Dragon Age Franchise section.

I use Duolingo as a key part of my Portuguese study. I also try to watch things, read Brazilian websites and occasionally, magazines. I just followed the Buzzfeed Brasil account the other day because it will give me links that are modern and simple things to read. I also use music for language learning. Disney songs work really well.
They're also very easy to find on Youtube. People make entire playlists or compilation videos.
Since we're talking language, I went looking for stuff like this:
Damn, the french dub for Solas is actually really well voiced. I'm impressed. Usually actors who dub have a hard time recreating or matching the persona and original feel of the character. Not that they are less talented, just that the actors persona isn't well translated because it's not original, the person is limited in his interpretation. Anyways, thanks for sharing.
For me it's more fun then nightmare, but then I played long enough to find myself a few effective build, plus I get myself at lest a good stockpile of decent mats with cheat engine... And yeah, sometimes the AOE ability just doesn't 'stick'. Personally I use tac-cam and have to hear the sound of it 'clicking' after I put it down (if it doesn't, then it means that for some reason it wasn't activated).

At the end I managed to beat the rift, some sweet drops I must say.
Maybe I should re-build my tree though, those 3 wretched despair demons were sooooo annoying.
Thanks for the tips -wipes sweat from brow-
You like our pain.
It echoes mine like lost whales, swimming deep in the oceans, singing to each other sad plaintive songs from miles and miles away, trying to reunite in the darkness and the cold, to try to, at least, not be so alone anymore.
