So Solas was the one who put the Veil into place to stop the elven mages who we know as the Elven Pantheon, but resulted in the loss of connection to everything the ancient elves had. His plan now is to remove the Veil to restore those things, at the cost of the rest of the world.

 

He is by far the worst person encountered in the Dragon Age lore so far. I told you his plan was not a good one.
