Welp, everything I predicted about Solas before the game came out turned out to be true. Ancient Elf and a supermacist. I'm actually happy this is his true self and they didn't cop out by trying to make it all a nice and happy ending for the Solas and Inquisitor. Solas is probably the villain of DA4 or 5.

While I was hoping for his bad guy plan to be less mind-bogglingly bad, I'm glad that the devs 1) didn't compromise on him as a character for the sake of fandom and 2) allow the Inquisitor a chance at redeeming him.

HOLY **** HE WOULD. OH MY GOD.

Solas will have destroyed an entire civilization TWICE. And this second time around? He isn't just pulling a 'The Slow Arrow' destroying the elders so the young can move forward... He's killing THOUSANDS OF YEARS worth of people.

He will have gone down as the largest mass murderer. Ever. Who was able to wipe away the existence of people as a "mistake".

it makes the romance really creepy. He had to leave because you were "too real" aka it made him question his morality a smidgen. so he was planning to kill you the whole time.

Yeah they would not be prone to posession but the point is sort of moot when the mage in question is dead. Again the world will burn if he goes through with his plan. Including killing all the mages. Everybody. He said everyone in this world has to die.  I take that to mean he's going to open a rift so large he will turn back time to before he put the veil in place.  That's my tinfoil hat theory.

Oh, totally. Just addressing that one point.

 

No, I think Solas's "Destroy the World" plan is awful. I mean, I can see how he came up with it; just woke up, sees how much of a crapsack world Thedas is because of his actions, panics, decides that if he tears down the veil everything will go back to normal.

 

Problem is, this plan is absolutely f*cking insane if you remember that this will be labeling the entirety of modern Thedas as a mistake, but Solas is so trapped in his own head and his guilt spiral that he doesn't want to realize this. He wants his world back, and so he tries not to think of modern Thedosians as people.

 

But then the Inquisition comes in and screws that up for him. As Cole says, "You're real, and it means everyone could be real. It changes everything, but it can't." Solas even says it himself, "You change...everything." The Inquisitor opens his eyes to the possibility that...well, the world doesn't deserve to be erased. And that scares him, because if he can't go through with his plan then he has to accept that he can't take back his actions.

 

He's on a precipice right now, and I believe the Inquisitor has the power to pull him back.

I'm more surprised they went for it. I mean...dam.  The thing is though - for the fluffy solasmancers - that redemption scene should be pretty good.  Alternatively - the enemy and probably potential death will be bad ass. So good on them.

Oh man, the frescos.  The art in this DLC was just breathtaking.  And it does drive home the point that for a while, Solas really did feel like he belonged with the Inquisition; he probably painted all those frescos in the Crossroads and the shrine himself, just like he did for the Inquisitor.

 

It does make me sad for him, though, because every time he depicts himself as the Dread Wolf, the wolf is always terrifying, always looming over the man just like it does in the Tower tarot.  Poor stupid egg

I haven't started it yet, but I sort of read through all the spoilers in this thread. I think the devs one said they have no interest in making inquisitor as protagonist in future games, so

I'm pretty unsatisfied about the fact even lavellan MIGHT have some future plot with Solas, we can't experience it in, um, first hand? Sorry for bad english.



And I'm trying so hard to control myself not to write a long long whiny post blaming and complaining like an unsatisfied fangirl why while other romance got some satisfying scene, lavellan got all the heartbreaking stuff. I do understand the reason behind but...urghhhh.



I was all like 'meh I know it would be tragic I don't mind I'm even expecting some juicy heartbreaking stuff and I am ABSOLUTELY COOL about it' before but when the time comes...now I'm just a bit frustrated.

Oh yeah. **** is bananas. I think you're right - by force or by love(friendship) - you'll stop him.  he's a bit unhinged. LIke he's calm but it's like "ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOURSELF". And he's like 'lalalala this is going to be OK'.  Which is why I think...the "reversal" or the time thing may work. He may not view as murder to erase everything and go back to before. he also wouldn't have to deal with pissed off elven mages who just go their magic back.  

 

I am happy with the DLC though. They made it really hard to like him. Which is what I wanted it and I hope they build on that.  I'm going to be sad if we dont' see much of him in the next game because opposing foce.  I am intrigued and excited that the Inquisitor will likely be back though.

After all, literally every bad thing that has happened to quizzy since the Conclave is indirectly his fault. It's his giant guilt complex getting in the way--like it's somehow better if he kills you indirectly by ending the world instead of personally  Ass.

Well, I just finished. HOLLLLYY SHI--. 

1) You get the option to break it off and move on....Interesting
2) He loves you, alot, that slide where he watches you in your dreams tore my heart.
3) WTF Solas, killing everyone!? I kind of knew it would be something like that but damn....There must be a gentler way. Not to mention you'd be killing the woman you love dumb ass.
4) That ending scene....Suggests to me (Obviously Tevinter is the next step) that our Quizzy has unfinished business. The companions all move on, which brings the way for new companions. At the very least, we may be an agent of our quizzy but she will have a biiiiig impact on the next story. I'm sorry but I find it weird that anyone else would deal with Solas. Especially with my Lavellan aiming to change his heart. Mine is locked in good and proper.


I'm actually not that upset. It was intriguing. Now I just hope that we get a da4 and aren't left in the dust, and also that my quizy makes a return. Our choice at the end about inquisition forces/corruption against Solas to me is telling that the Inquisition is still around, just not official.

Also, silly thing to notice but the deepstalkers had glowing eyes...That was never in main game or Descent even. I like it.

He's a bit like Anders, really.  Remember what he said to Mythal?  "I should pay the price...but the People.  They need me."  Part of him wants to be stopped, and part of him wants to be punished for all the harm he's caused.  And who better than the Inquisitor, one of his would-be victims, and possibly a lover or a friend?

Plus Solas knows everything about you and can turn anyone to stone in an instant. As of now we don't have a single advantage against him.
