The DLC left me with two theories as far as Mythal goes-

 

a. She's completely focused on revenge, so her only interest is getting Solas to break the veil. In which case the evanuris will be free, and she'll be able to enact her revenge plot. I don't think her merger with Solas is going to be a permanent one- she could potentially just shed off of him and leave him powerless.

b. She has no interest in seeing the world destroyed, as she has children in it that would not survive elven world order. In this case she probably has some contingency in place, likely with Morrigan, that will ensure a safe merger of the old and the new. And also revenge, because why not.

I think that Mythal, if she even exists at this point, had planned to give what was left of herself to Morrigan.  I think Solas got the power though.  It's entirely possible that Morrigan/Mythal will pop up again to help - possibly against what Solas has planned.  Flemeth/Mythal says that she was betrayed as the world was betrayed.  I'm not necessarily certain that revenge is really her goal.  She wants justice but is removing the Veil really justice?  

 

Ugh this is all rambly, I don't have my thoughts in order.  At any rate I don't think we're done with Morrigan.  Also, anyone who is reading this NOT drink from the Well?  The char I ran through did so I'm not sure what the difference (if any) was of not drinking and what a horrible waste of an important choice unless it really affects something in the next game.

On that note: TE-VIN-TER! TE-VIN-TER! TE-VIN-TER!!!! In the end, I was more satisfied by this than I thought I would be so I'm happy as a clam! Except my Inquisitor accidentally ended up living with Sera and that wasn't really my intention but hey, crossbow arms are pretty rad.

Also, as someone who is disabled IRL, I REALLY want to actually get to play a disabled protagonist. Even with a prosthetic, it ain't gonna be perfect, and it shouldn't be. Hell, all Alleyana needs there is something to strap a shield to and she'll be fighting at about 80-90% capacity once she's fully adapted to it. Which hey, that's one way to tone down her combat OP-ness at the start of a new game. (That and no Anchor, of course.)

 

Yeah, this is something I'd love to see in a future game.

A disabled protagonist would be an interesting challenge, even if they gave us some kind of prosthesis (possibly enchanted) to compensate, as it'd require players having to really strategise more and pay close attention to what's going on around them.

 

...Stop. You're going to make me cry, I didn't even cry during the game. Okay?! 

 

I know, it didn't get to me during my playthrough, but now it's had time to sink in...

How so did they screw up the character? This was apparently all planned out from the early stages of DAO, so the only thing that might have screwed it up is having the romance added at all. I'm glad it was, because I love the extra level of things we get to see and learn and experience for as little as we got. If anything, maybe that will change or add options in the future games. We have, what, another three years to find out?

Because during the main game Solas was so wonderfully ambiguous, neither 'good' nor 'bad'.

 

There was the revelation of who he was and there was the romance, which IMO made him a bit of a "darker" character, because he caused heartbreak and becaused he was not in a 100% honest and open relationship in the first place. 

 

But there were all these little hints in the game pointing towards his kinder nature. Him giving approval when you help people. Him valuing wisdom. His relationship with Cole and his spirit friends. The friendship he can develop with Tal-Vashoth Iron Bull and the Inquisitor. 

 

So he always kept me guessing - is he truly an antagonist or is he doing something with good intentions that might have bad consequences?  And now that I know his intentions, I'm just morally opposed to them. Somebody said it earlier - what he is trying to do is genocide, but worse, he knows it. So he went from very morally amiguous to simply a dark character - not that he does not have good qualities, he does, but it just shifted the scales from the very delicate balance they managed to maintain in game. A balance that I haven't seen achieved anywhere else, TBH. Just enough "good' and just enough "bad" in one person. 

 

As I said, I still haven't sorted out my opinions about him 100%. Discussions help and we have a looong time to discuss now anyway.

So at the end if you say you want to go with him and he says he can't allow that because his path will end his death and he doesn't want you to see what he will become ... this makes me apprehensive.  If he's talking about his actual death then why would he say he doesn't want you to see what he will become?  Unless he's speaking metaphorically and he means the death of his .. personality?  Or the death of what makes him .. him.  Like basically he sacrifices his own compassion so he can force himself to do what he has to do.

 

I'm really rooting for a redemption arc but that above makes me concerned.  The only thing that gives me any hope is that spirit-Cole returned to the Fade to try to help Solas.  Not sure what human-Cole does.

Actually, the whole plotline about the mark killing us and needing it gone was extremely rushed IMO, we went it from flaring randomly in the presence of elven magic (which is has done before without harm) to suddenly giving us dialogue options where the Inquisitor is worried we're about to die.

 

Well, that escalated quickly!

I think it was the latter b/c there was a letter/codex entry mentioning Celene and Briala together.  However all the cutscenes mentioned Gaspard on the throne.  Bleh.  At least possible future games should use the Keep for choices.

Honestly, same here. I guess if I had to change anything, I'd make his intentions less blatantly murder-y? By that I mean make it so what he's doing won't "destroy" the world and everyone in it but still cause massive chaos that will eventually sort out into a world nobody in modern Thedas can understand anymore. And you have to decide if you think that world might be worth the chaos. I was hoping for a seriously difficult choice down the line, basically. But it seems like they're setting it up where removing the Veil just wrecks the modern world and that means our trajectory is just to stop Solas and maybe we'll have a choice on how to do that. That's much less interesting to me than a choice between basically two different worlds, but that's more about what I want out of choices and not as much about Solas as a character.

 

Solas as a character is deliciously dark and yet sympathetic.  Despite the fact that I morally oppose and want to stop what he wants to do, I found myself completely understanding why he's doing it when I put myself in his shoes. That was disturbing in its own way!    I think they did a good job at portraying that he KNOWS what he's doing is messed up to a mega level but he still finds it worth it. And despite of that, you can still hear some rationalizations because he ISN'T a bad person, he just has the capability and willingness to do some very bad things. All to protect people he gave everything for and is willing to destroy the world for again. You can't say that guy isn't dedicated, that's for sure!

They were talking about it ripping the Inquisitor apart during that last Eluvian trip and I was just like "wait, what? Why are are saying goodbyes all the sudden when did this get so pressing?"

 

Also, seriously when did that arm come off? Solas didn't take it as far as I saw, he just stabilized the mark and then left.

Not really - it would ruin a pretty intense and poignant scene if they've decided to do that. I'm pretty happy they actually didn't give in to some fans' demands and only went as far as implied that they slept together during Solas' time in Inquisition in one of dialogue options. It's a pretty elegant solution. Kudos, Bioware!

If they did surprise us by having the Inquisitor for the protagonist in the next game, chopping off the arm is certainly one way to do it. You have the uber power removed, and you'll be at "noob" level with having to learn how to fight with whatever dwarven prosthetic they whip up. It could work.

 

Just not sure how likely that is. All I know is I still don't feel like the Inquisitor's story is over, even if the inquisition-as-an-organization is.

Sera has grown so much. She actually asked my quizzy how she was feeling, and said she's tired of fighting with elves. Then she went on and added that friends were here and were real. This little thing almost made me cry, I don't know why. I just love little cutie Sera so much.

 

Dorian and Bull are adorable. I took them and Cole, and the banter is so good. I love them omg. I'm going to miss 'em so much...

 

And Krem??? Oh my, that was cute. 

 

I love the way we're getting to know things about fen'harel, little by little. I would have fallen in love with him even if he wasn't Solas, from what I know so far. 

 

I'm already in love (how many times did I write "love"?) with this dlc and I didn't even meet Solas yet. Can't wait to play again in 10-11 hours or so lol.

I also had a question for you guys. My Lavellan didn't drink from the Well, so she had to kill the spirits, but she got to know stuff anyways. Is it any different if you drink? I mean, apart from not having to kill the guardians, do you get extra info?

The Inquisitor's response is under "Yes, ironically" and then she shakes her head and says "And so he did."

There are very limited ways to interpret this

 

The "I would not lay with you under false pretenses" is simply him saying "I might have not said who I really was, but my feelings for you were genuine, and not part of the long con".
