ALSO might I just add that the music in this DLC is utterly spectacular. The theme that plays during the Solas scene just rips out my heart.

Ok I just completed the DLC and

While it was amazing I really don't know if I'm a Solas fan anymore :') The Solas I just spoke to is not the thoughtful elf who told Cassandra that he believes in the rights of "all free-willed people to exist."

 

It turns out he's not as smart as we thought. And way more villainous than I expected, at least. (I'd say things like "what if he wants to restore the elves....but only at the expense of all other races!" before, but only hypothetically, wow.) My poor Lavellan is much nicer than I and decided to try and redeem him but.........I wonder.

 

I guess the really frustrating part is that if Solas likes/loves the Inquisitor and admits they changed his mind about Thedas then.....why are we even having this conversation where you're telling me about how you're going to destroy it? He's seriously like "I was wrong, but I'm still going to end this hopeless world, but I hope you can prove me wrong again!" Uhhh, that makes no sense. It's not even really for the greater good/the good of the elves, it's just for his greater good. And it will probably end terribly anyway. There's no way that bringing the Veil down now that it's been up for so long will turn out well for anybody. In spite of his "plans" I'm pretty sure the old pantheon will only have the singular goal of killing him, for one. 

 

I'm extra happy I was already interpreting that they never had sex before he left, because that whole reveal would have made Lavellan feel even worse than she was otherwise. I need to get to a post-game state with my lone Trevelyan who hates his guts. Maybe the scene will play out differently and his world-destroying goal will at least make sense then.

As much as I am conflicted about the ending, I'd never wish for Solas to die, and I'm NOT looking forward to (possibly) confronting him in the next game. Hope writers don't take it as a sign everyone hates him and decide to kill him off >_>

Given that there's a choice in the DLC about how you confront him, I am pretty optimistic for a possible redemption ending, as well as a kill/banish Solas ending. I think they know he's a big enough character, with enough divided opinion, that it'd do him justice to allow the player choice on the matter.

so then the two ways that you can interpret is is that

 

1) solas and the inquisitor DIDNT sleep together, because he wasn't telling the whole truth about who/what he was, which meant he would be sleeping with you under a disguise

 

OR

 

2) solas and the inquisitor DID sleep together, and his feelings for her weren't part of his lies (or rather, non-specifications)

 

personally i prefer the first one. in my humble opinion i don't see solas as someone who cares much for sex, much less see it as the be-all end-all of romantic relationships. i prefer to imagine my inquisitor and solas cuddling, swapping spit, and sleeping on her comfy bed rather than him getting his ancient elven d*ck wet anyway. thats just me doe

 

but unless confirmed one way or the other by weekes or another dev, we can at least still interpret the solas-lavellan sex the way we please, how weekes intended in the first place.

I'm glad he answered to my tweet, that was very sweet of him. I sometimes wonder if he has any idea how impactful his stories are on other people. He literally could make me lose that hope for a moment, if he wanted. It always comes back, like ill weeds always grows back in the weirdest places. But it is still a process utterly painful to go through. If anything, he should be proud of it, even though I wished the impact was more on the positive end of the spectrum.

How would you suggest they handled resolution? From my perspective both the 'must save the Dread Wolf from himself' and 'wolf wolfhound final showdown reckoning' people both got their due. What's missing?

According to the cards I got at the end, my Quizzy is still pining for Solas. We know he is still in love with Lavellan, yet they remain apart. My Quizzy said she wouldn't give up on him. If she doesn't get the chance to actually succeed or fail in saving him from himself or in killing him, then the situation is just left hanging. And, I'm not having my Quizzy break up with him just because I know Bioware will likely leave me hanging...that's crappy roleplaying. This was my problem with them saying the Warden disappeared to go on some quest. I wish my warden had died at the end of Origins, and I would have been more satisfied if they had killed Lavellan. They need to end one story before moving on to another. The Lavellan/Solas relationship deserves a final resolution just like the other romances, and I don't know how they could do that with a new protagonist.  But, that's just my opinion.

Hmm, I should rephrase that. What I mean is, whether or not Solas has been romanced in someone's play throughor not, if his story is going to continue into the next instalment then it is something I'd like my Inquisitor to see through to the end and not a new protagonist. I phrased it wrong when I specified the Solas romance.

If you don't do Iron Bull's personal quest or if you end the quest in a certain way then Bull remains with the Qun.  If he's with the Qun he's going to betray you.  The Bull in my playthrough was Tal Vashoth and when the chick told him to help her he was like oh hell no.  Although he died often enough I wondered if he was actually helping her by dying on purpose.  =p

I think he was making reference to Solas killing Felassan in the trap line. A line before that is "A slow arrow breaks in the sad wolf's jaws" and then he somehow connects it to a wolf chewing off his own leg to escape the trap. The line before was about Solas not wanting to just cause havoc and pain, he's not that kind of wolf. That's heavily paraphrased, though!

 

Also, I love how Cole was 100% Solas bro this entire DLC. In spite of everything Solas is trying to do, Cole always seems to see the real him!

Figures on the right: Slaves (obviously) having their vallaslin removed. It looks like the blue magic is flowing from them and behind them and it is going over and through an object that looks similar to an elven orb. Does Solas collect vallaslin to power up his orb?

 

Figures on the left behind Solas: Who are they? They do not look like the slaves. Two figures; one is shorter than the other. Are they Enuvaris? Notice how these figures and the slaves both have barriers/halo's/aura's around them. The slaves is red while the other figures is blue with what looks like a notched border around it.

 

And there are red lines that run through all figures (except only 1 line running through the figures on the left). Is this suppose to represent blood?

He does mention (with something of a regret) that he's been more or less using people to further his goals - no reason not to think that he wouldn't be using mortal elves as well.

 

Plus, we don't really know how much most elves who heard about ancient elvhen rebel really know - it might be that they simply think that he's the solution to all their problems, including problems with humans.

 

In any case, it's really hard to say how they'd use them or how are his plans. But apparently he puts everyone - including Inquisitor - into 'your people' cauldron. I assume that's because there's probably some sort of inherent 'flaw' or thing that makes mortals different from pre-Veil elvhen, in a way that will make it hard to survive, for most, if not all people of Thedas.

I had to restart that sequence three damn times to figure out how it had worked because I kept dying. AND I had lowered the difficulty to casual, plus given everyone the best equipment, and was at the level cap, so I could breeze through the combat as quickly as possible in order to reach Solas.

This partially my own fault for insisting that I save the dragon. Although my party - cass, dorian, and sera - weren't really made for dragon slaying.
