I really liked the mark too. And while I thought the escalation from minor annoyance to life-threatening was a bit rushed, I really liked the overloading focus bar as a game play mechanic, turning something beneficial into a time bomb.

I tried that option and he said he did not. Then something about not laying with you under false pretenses. Maybe I need to take that dialogue before the break up scene to get this reaction that you speak of?

Off the top of my head, "Our love will overcome this."

 

var - our

lath - love

vir - path - the point of this word being in the sentence is a bit tricky, but you just have to stay creative while interpreting the elven language, I guess. Perhaps it could be used to indicate something that will happen in the future (similar to saying something will happen "down the road" in English), or it could refer to the path Solas is on, making the sentence, "Our love will prevail instead of the path you are on."

suledin - endure, but I think in this context the meaning could be closer to prevail, overcome

 

Hope this makes sense.

My *best* guess is something along the lines of "Our love can endure".  If you look at the words separately.  I took the word meanings from the DA wiki.  It also makes sense given his response of "I wish it could".

 

I could be wrong about the meaning but as I said that's my best guess.

I could get behind that. Sigh... I am surprised to find myself so alone in my reaction to his plans, compared to other thread regulars. I feel like I'm seriously "in need of re-education" as the vidassala put it, and I'm trying to understand, but his goals and where the story is going still make me a bit uncomfortable. 

 

I wish there was something positive in his plan that I could cling to, other than he just feels really bad about it. I still can't see the logic or moral justification of righting the destruction of an entire race by destroying several more races. He probably doesn't either. He could've at least been trying to bring back some golden age, but from what we learn, Elvhenan was far from a happy place for the majority of its residents before he created the Veil. 

 

But on the positive side, I really like how they handled the romance. I was worried that we were going to get a godlike mask of stoicism, but he made it blatantly clear he cares, he was vulnerable in his affection, and the interactions gave the feelings of closure. Also this was the most romantic magical amputation scene I've ever seen... Well, it's the only one I've ever seen, but still. The also left it fairly open-ended, which I think has always been the best option for his romance. For me, pantheon sex parties are still on the table for the future.

Oh no. You're not alone. He's gross. He makes my skin crawl right now.  There is NOTHING positive in his plans. At all.  I think you're part of the majority on that. But I think that's wonderful. And I STILL find him depressing. Not because I'm emotionally compromised but because he is actually very sad. That whole line:

 

Lavellan: I never thought you would be capable of something like this?(which is clearly said in sad criticism)

Solas: Thank you.

 

I think he was actually incredibly sincere there - DESPITE HOW WEIRD IT COMES OFF. I truly believe that NOONE in his life thought he was capable of good except when he was simply Solas. None of the people he helped were grateful - or if they were he killed them all.

Solas is a combination, a mix of Anders, Loghain and Magneto. Once you understand that, you will understand Solas as a character.

I'm perfectly okay with being the Xavier to Solas' Magneto, actually! Even if the analogy falls apart slightly since both those guys were mutants, but eh, same feelings.

 

And now that I've actually had some sleep! I have more focused thoughts on Trespasser/DA4:

Stupid egg is still stupid (and well written, don't get me wrong!), but at this point I'm only upset/worried that the Inquisitor's new wolf hunt goal will ultimately just....not mean anything. That it's their way of keeping us occupied, like the Warden's quest for a cure. The devs made a point to say that Trespasser is the end for the Inquisitor. So while I feel the romance did get a satisfying conclusion, all things considered, it's still pretty open-ended and may not resolve.

 

Like, in DA4 we'll have other, new things to worry about. Qunari, Warden troubles, whatever. So the ending of Trespasser is just an excuse for why the Inquisitor isn't there helping to solve this problem. "Well, she's busy hunting down Fen'Harel, can't help us here!" I want to be wrong like Solas but at this point I'm certain that Lavellan will be on that mission for the rest of her life, and may not succeed since she isn't the protagonist anymore.

Nope, not at all, you come across as someone who tries to be helpful. I like that kind of people.

 

I want re-education, because I just really like Solas, and him turning genocide on us seriously punched me in the feels. And I want there to be a respectful, thoughtful discussion, because in arguments the truth has a chance to emerge. It was my awkwardly humorous way of saying, "Guys, help me, I still want to love Solas, pls!"

I actually think Human Cole ending up with the bard is better than Krem ending up with the bard. Seeing human Cole kiss a grown woman...Well, my male Inquisitor felt like a dad who is proud to see his son all grown up and dating...I'm sure Varric is proud too...To me, Krem belongs to the Chargers. With the Bull.

Indeed, that must be super cute to witness! But I'd still stick with Spirit!Cole, and I love Krem too much to leave him forever alone.

Also, what's the epilogue card for Human!Cole? He stays with the Inquisitor,or the bard, or does he go back to the Fade to help Solas like Spirit!Cole?

Here's the deal on the whole thing.

I trust the team. I trust them because they have never let me down, storywise. I always feel something.

And that's the point, right? A story? A story with characters that are flawed, lovable, repulsive, redeemable, beautiful...with story themes that are not only epic but resonate with real life, that touch us in some way, small or large. This is what Dragon Age has been for me. The ultimate escapism, that book I just can't put down, that I crave to know every little detail, with characters in this epic, strange world, that move me, to tears, to anger, to joy. I think it's like that for a lot of us here, isn't it? Isn't that why we're all here, raging, loving, confused, angry, hurt, betrayed, ...this is what their intent was. To make you feel something, one way or another. This isn't railroading you or your character, it's a glorious, beautiful, and heartbreaking story.

And I trust them to continue to tell it. You can tell that Patrick is really, really passionate about it. And Patrick and his team will start all over and I trust them to carry me through the cycle again, with beautiful, breathtaking environments, nuanced combat, and characters I will no sooner forget than I'd forget my own mother.

This is a world that we have all loved enough to come here, every day. I trust them, I trust the story they want to tell, and I trust that they will make me laugh, cry, feel despair, joy, anger, love and...heroism, once again. I have never felt such a connection to a story or world as I do Dragon Age. I can't wait to see where they take me, and the characters I have grown to love, next.

 

Agreeing with everything you said here

Though, I have to add that, personally, I find it really easy to make someone have sad feels over a situation, or a character. Crying over what happens to characters I love and cheer on, is very easy for me. Crying because someone is making a tragedy happen in front of your eyes, to character you love, is very easy for me.

What I'd love out of the DA Franchise, and what I feel could actually happen, is try to make someone have strong feelings, make someone cry because of joy, because of faith in humanity restored, because of positive, heart-warming feelings.

 

I consume a lot of art products, and I can count on my fingers, the number of movies, video games, books, that left me crying because I was overwhelmed with joy, happiness, and overall hope and faith. THAT is the tricky thing to create.

One video game managed to make me cry because I was feeling overwhelmed with faith in humanity, and that was Journey. Some others have managed to make me tear and touch me because of the positive and heartfelt message they conveyed. One movie managed to make me cry because I was literally feeling waves of hope crashing my entire body at the end of it, and that was Gravity.

 

I sometimes feel that DA could make me feel these feelings as well, they have all the ingredients for it, they have all the nuance needed. Hell, they have Patrick Weekes on top of it all, a fan of Doctor Who, a franchise known for being on the positive end of spectrum, and that contains episodes that made me cry of happiness. A show where the main protagonist insists on telling everyone they're important, they matter, and would spare as many lives as possible. Also the story of a very old madman who sometimes is blinded by himself and turns out to be a destructive force, only to have their companion(s) pull them together again. Parallels between Solas and The Doctor could be a very fun thing to do, to be honest.

 

So I have hope, then. Maybe I'm a fool, but I'd rather be.

Sorry to interrupt the flow of conversation (again), for those who've completed Tresspasser, I need help getting past one last area.

How do I free the Ataashi?

 

It's hard enough trying to free a giant lizard that keeps wiping out half my party's HP with each breath, but it seems there are two steps to freeing her that are both impossible. One is opening the gates, which automatically shut after ten seconds or so. The other is rotating the fire ring that keeps her in place, but there are three levers, and after a while they get jammed so I can't rotate them so the "free space" is next to the gate.

 

I gather we're supposed to first rotate the rings so she has free space facing the gate, and then open the gates. But still... the fire rings keep jamming and I don't know what to do. 

 

Call me a softie, but I really want to save the dragon, and I really don't know how to do it. Help?

Use your new power to destroy the cart, use the controls to turn the rings of fire to "herd" Ataashi toward the big metal gate, use the levers on either side of the gate to free it.

God this ending was so bittersweet. I really hope we get to continue with the same character, but at the same time I see why it would be more interesting with a new one, mostly considering those who did not romance Solas or play as Lavellan. Also really thoughtful in general. This DLC somehow makes the entire game, not exactly pointless, but its making me reconsider every single choice I've made. Its no longer about the breach and Cory, this traces back so far. There are such powerful forces behind all this.  What am I supposed to do with my life until the next game!? Ahh, I need sleep.

Makes no sense to me... The pun was right there, and Lavellan jumped at it, while looking somewhat bitter/embarrassed about it)

 

People seem to interpret it differently though - I took his "I did not. I wouldn't lay with you under false pretenses" as him denying that it was in any way part of him playing the role of Fen'Harel, which he admitted just before that dialogue to be a crafted persona whom Dalish remember only as the malicious deceiver. None of his feelings were pretended.
