I think that's Mythal's vallaslin? I took it to mean that Dalish had heard the Dread Wolf was gathering elves, and were among those who headed out to find him. I don't think Solas is putting vallaslin on anyone, as it seems a bit contrary to his beliefs.

At least we get a hint that Ghilan'nain may have had her hands in some seriously sketchy research, and might not be the fluffy-cute halla we first took her to be.   It's a start.

No he says - everybody is going to die.  He says "you" the inquisitor is going to die.  Even if there is nuance - I think the "most people are going to die" doesn't really make it better.  It's the equivalent of everyone dying out to biological warfare or an atomic bomb.  Both are awful. Both suck.

 

I'm going to replay, so we'll see if I can pick up a different opinion.

...both are awful. Both suck. It's a completely terrible plan and he's so completely and utterly deluded and convinced that this is the only way. But he can be saved. The world can be saved. You can almost hear him pleading with her, unspoken, but in his voice, to give him a better option, to talk him out of it, to stop him.  We all know people like that, though probably not on such an epic scale. People that can't look past the end of their nose. People who are so utterly convinced of their own "rightness" that they don't see what the consequences would be until the world burns around them. 

 

But, this is what makes a Lavellan (or any other Inky) who wants to save him such a special character- a special force. Someone who can look beyond, to see the person, the soul that is hurting, and to try, no matter what the cost, no matter what the risk, he's worth saving, or trying to save, until she can't. Lavellan would kill him, even if she loves him, to save the world. (I'm a Buffy girl, I KNOW how this works). But she's going to do whatever she can to save them both. Both the world she loves, and her life and her friends, and the man she loves. She would make a difficult choice, if she had to, and would not hesitate to murder-knife the **** out of him.  

 

But you're right (I got off on a tangent lol), both are terrible. Just my opinion, because I watch too much Walking Dead.

I very much doubt Fen'harel has a Vallaslin. Tbh this is probably just a quick rendering of Mythal's.

Whilst I agree that putting vallaslin on elves would be contrary to his beliefs I had also believed that tearing down the Veil and killing millions of people would also be contrary to his beliefs.  So .. yeah.

 

I had honestly believed that Solas had found out the elven gods were breaking free of the prison he put them in and was going off alone to stop them.  Really.  And what we got was "I'm going to kill everyone but feel really bad about doing it".

 

I'm seriously pulling for a redemption arc in the next game(s) though.

Mythal?  That... doesn't look anything like Mythal's vallaslin to me.  Or any of the "known" vallaslin, honestly.   I assumed they meant to suggest that these were the markings that Felassan had- who was very much an agent of Solas and absolutely had vallaslin.

I am the same there, I hate seeing people become their own worst enemy. For me it made me love both Solas and Blackwall immensely simply because I felt like they where more relateable to me. Not that I have accidentally killed anyone or led a rebellion that destroyed everything I knew and loved, but still!

 

And I'm currently channeling all that into my Lavellan. All my "well I'll fix things for you then" feelings. If nothing else it will at least be a good story for Lavellan!

Yeah, most of my MCs are more therapists than warriors... XD But it feels good, helping everyone with their problems and making them even a bit happier than they were before. And Solas will NOT escape from that, not if I can help it

So, random thought but shouldn't Cass, Leliana and all the religious Chantry folk be completely freaking out about this? The Veil, the barrier erected between the first children of the Maker, rejected by him due to their inability to create (Spirits) and his second, supposedly beloved children (peoples), is now revealed to have not been made by the Maker but by an Elven God, who they not only know exists but had spent over a year fighting beside. 

 

Also, will the Quizzy be honest about what they have learned of the Elvhen Gods to the Dalish of Thedas? That would seem to be the best solution, rather than trying to cover it up. Just coming out and telling them what has happened, what they have now learned and explaining about Fen'harel's plans may help curb any short sighted enough to join Solas in tearing down the Veil. What do you guys think?

Okay. I didn't sleep much last night, and coffee has only minimally started to kick in, but...

In thinking about it, I think I somewhat agree with the poser who suggested that they screwed up Solas' character (was it drosophila?) After DAI and the stinger we were able to spend months speculating, guessing, wondering at what Solas intends and where he might go. Then we get to the end of Trespasser and they just sort of have him stand there and tell his plans, for as good or bad as they will be, and there's no real ambiguity. Even if we can take apart everything he has done and said and find things to discuss and find some questions in there, it's just... pretty much the infodump I was worried about, and not even in such a way that can keep us guessing for 3+ years. It's just outright, automatic, "yup, he'll be the big bad in DA4" and that's that. It does kind of make me sad.

 

And.... you know... I would actually love to see the Inquisitor come back in DA4 and we get to find upgrades and add runes and things to whatever prosthetic we can strap to our arms. Having a disabled protagonist would be something, for certain.

Yep, I posted that and you phrased it better than my initial sleep-deprived, feels-loaded post. While I appreciate the lore, I think it would've been great if we learned more about his plans but kept guessing: Is he trying to do something good or something bad? Or is it part good and part bad? And his goals right now seem like 90% bad, with the other 10% being that he clearly feels some regret for what he must do. 

 

I really do understand his motivation and his pain. I feel deeply for him. I still think his personality is a mix, but his role seems to be antagonistic.

It should be that Fen'Harel would NEVER EVER have a vallaslin. Of any kind. There's an entire mural dedicated to him REMOVING the vallaslin from the slaves who fled to him. If anything, that's a simplified Ghilal'nain.

I think that he may have had Mythals, at some point. Maybe he was a general or something? But he took it off, or she did- I don't know. Maybe it eventually came to it that slaves were marked that way, but for all we know, Solas began as a general, or something. Then again, I have no idea so whatever. Ignore me lol

Depends on if they believe it or not.  A lot of the information is coming from confused spirits (the archivists) and Solas himself - who only the Inquisitor spoke with.  So whilst the Chantry folk will believe that Fen'Harel wants to remove the Veil they may just handwave the rest as being nonsense.  Like Cassandra does at the Temple of Mythal.

 

I think the Inquisitor should share the information.  Whether or not the Dalish will believe the Inquisitor is another thing entirely.

That we would have been much better off with a Qunari spymaster? That woman really knew her stuff. When she stood there listing off all the crap Solas had pulled I was like...

"DAMN IT LELIANA"

 

Also, how many freaking spies were in that Inquisition? Nope. Just nope. I dismantled the hell out of it and I'll do it again with my other Lavellan. Bit weird that they tell you it'll make you weaker against Solas. Surely that doesn't matter? Surely he will be someone else's problem?

 

Although I do like the idea of my Lavellan becoming his nemesis. Not in a sinister laugh good vs evil way. But in a whole tragic romance kind of way.

Like Subaru/Seishirou from Tokyo Babylon/X if there are any manga fans. Although with less eyeballs and death. maybe.

 

I'm still really surprised her ending wasn't tragic. Ignoring the whole Solas is a total git thing, and that rather cruel end panel about the dream. I was expecting her to have the emo end and my male Lavellan to be happier. Oh my. Have I turned the tables? Time for feels round 2. He loved his Solas bro. 

His team are also way weaker than Niamh's, so er. Could be a challenge. Niamh has some kind of health regen thing going on so she never went down. It also helped me run through all that purple fire. There's probably a better way, but I am impatient. 

 

Oh, and bringing Thom, Sera and Varric everywhere did bring out the lols. Thom and Sera were a great team for keeping it light hearted. My Niamh deserved at least that.

 

So weird calling him Thom, but the game dictates! That is his name now.

 

One last thing...

...and Patrick responds that he wanted it to be player choice. Did he get mixed up and think it was another "did they bang" question, or has my coffee failed me and I just don't get how asking what that means has anything to do with player choice?
