I am just sorting out all my video saves from this and decided to rewatch that scene. Damn, Solas.

No I don't you ass. Just don't destroy the freaking world and hey presto! Not dead. How good could you world have been anyway? You did kinda break it.

 

Now I'm wishing Lavellan had smacked Solas around with her recently cut off arm. No no and no. You don't get to be all "I'm not a monster. You'll at least all die free"

You won't hear a lot of Solas defence from me. I still love the character because I love a good train wreck. But yeesh. He really is a villain. Just because he essentially created the current Thedas doesn't really give him the right to tear it down like it's nothing. I've put too many hours into saving the damn place 

 

I'm even more confused than ever about the Elven world now. 

 

... So is anyone actually feeling intrigued? Or does anyone else just have a headache   I just have a headache and annoyance that my BW romances never pan out. Oh I knew Solas's was going to be a disaster, but it looks like my Dorian one isn't going to be sunsets either.

He said take down the veil and in the chaos, restore what was. I took that as literally as possible because I don't think Solas would settle for less. Everything would have to go back to its proper place, in its proper frame. And he would keep trying until he got it right, butterfly effect style.

I don't know that he could go back before Mythal was murdered as it seems the Veil itself or breaches in the Veil are what allow time travel to be possible.  It's like the creation of the Veil screwed up the natural order of things at a very basic level.  Not that I think Solas should just tear it all down or try to go back in time.

Ancient elven society went from idealistic utopia (according to the Dalish) to power hungry slavers ruled by god-kings.  And the truth is probably somewhere in between.  Regardless, Solas will never get back what he lost no matter what he does.  Taking down the Veil won't restore Elvhenan.  At this point it may not even restore the elves to what they were.  Undoing something doesn't necessarily means it reverts back to exactly what it was before the change.

 

He really needs to spend more than 4 years in modern Thedas before deciding to end it all.

I don't really think he intends to return the world *exactly* how it was, with all its elvhen glory - he probably plans to restart the world the way it was before, so creatures that inhabit it will be elf-like, instead of being Tranquil-like or almost sundered from the Fade and leave it that way, so it'd repopulate itself.

 

He likely considers it the last thing he'd do, though it's' hard to say what fate he thinks awaits him - from his own words it seems to be pretty ugly though: either he dies, he sacrifices all his consciousness and knowledge or becomes something of a distant Maker - someone who is probably there, at the edge, but can't really touch or experience it.

That's what I'm wondering about. If he's immortal and spells would take years way back when, what's his rush? Even if he's on some sort of time limit because the alignment of the moon with the left tree on the east coast of the continent will sway and lose a leaf in a particular gust of wind once every so many years, he'd still have time to wait for it to come around again, take time to see what the world really is without the shroud of dissociation being so strong over his eyes. He could live a bit, love and discover what has happened over the years, and not just by dreaming it in the Fade.

 

Unless that's precisely why he is rushing. Living in the world and trying to make a go at making things work well for the elves, or anyone else, would invest him in a time he desperately needs to remain not real because of his past guilts or whatever. That's... interesting to think on.

Hmmm, that's an interesting question. 

 

First of all, how does he go from waking up alone and weak to 1) seeing how bad the world has gone, 2)devising some plan to change it, 3) trying to rally up the Dalish but failing, 4) building a network of agents, 5) guiding Cory to the Orb, so that he can unlock it for him. 

 

That's an awful lot to do in one year. I don't think he was idle and unconscious in his sleep. I think he was forced to watch from the Fade for a while as the world he wrought fell apart. Then a little before he awoke he started working from the Fade, preparing things for his awakening, which was supposed to be the final act. So he might not see it as rushing things, rather he is putting the finishing touches on something that has been in preparation for a while. 

 

Also, he might want to get it over with as quickly as possible. It's clearly painful for him, so get it done with one quick blow rahter than stretch the agony over time.

I think before.  LIke Liz said - try a different plan.   So maybe before the murder to warn her? But I think it's one of those things where - if not her, then maybe someone else. They shouldn't BE planning to murder her anyway -- and methinks it was Elgar'nan because of the symmetry with Flemeth.  So the system BEFORE he did what he did was very broken -- and that's not Solas' fault(as far as we know).  So he would still need to deal with them.

For that matter, where was all the lore on Sylaise I've been holding my breath for?  *shakes a fist at the sky*

 

At least we get a hint that Ghilan'nain may have had her hands in some seriously sketchy research, and might not be the fluffy-cute halla we first took her to be.   It's a start.

 

All we need to know about Sylaise is she has the most hardcore followers ever.

Dude, seriously?

You wouldn't be here to bad mouth the Wardens if it wasn't for one in particular. And are you forgetting who your freaking KING is!?

 

And Crestwood was still a disaster from the Blight. Which at the time of taking the hold, was over ten years ago. He has the cheek to complain we are using a hold for two years when Crestwood was left a disaster zone for years previous. Oh man, he just.. No Teagan. I used to love that man in DAO and his little cameo in TME. But that Teagan was no Teagan of mine! Plus yeah, wow. He has no got the same aging serum as the other DAO characters.

When you meet the Qunari chick - the first time you see her - there is a codex entry that discusses Koslun talking about Fen'Harel in the desert.  It's in an alcove.

3. No. Not Shartan.  But he did meet with Koslun in the desert before he slept.  He essentially provided Koslun the ideology that started the Qun

What Solas aims to do is create a rift/ breach so massive the veil would collapse and in that moment utilize time magic to run back time.

I started playing the main game two months after its release. Mind you, I still found the thread very much alive, speculating and theory-crafting after I ended it, even though it was so long after everybody else, and that the thread already had 3k+ pages.

Regarding the Qun: I think the philosophy - like many things that happens to solas - was actually misinterpreted by Koslun.  Or possibly manipulated by Koslun to fit his own personal feelings(as these things go).  Which would explain Solas' deep hatred of it. It's essentially his manifesto/his personal ideologies of freedom(things that he clearly would die for and kill others for) twisted into something horrible.

As we were about to hit the Solas cutscene Cole piped up with something like "He can't stand to be far from her"(or something like that).  Anyone know if he says that for all inquisitors?  I mean I'm hoping that I'm just special and he can't bear to be away from the woman he loves.  But alternatively he could be referring to the fact that he can't be away from the anchor which I would assume if Cole says that with non Solas romance characters.

I thought it was a glitch at first   that scene with Solas beforehand had been a bit iffy so I thought this was more errors.

 

Took me a moment to realise it wasn't ever going to load up. 

 

I texted my friend (who knows little of DA and thinks I'm insane now) and summed up the ending as 'ex boyfriend wants to destroy the world and my character chopped off her arm'

She asked what kind of sick video game I was playing.

 

I love how she just casually strolls in with one arm and no one says a damn thing. Not one damn word. I am going to miss Niamh. What a firecracker. Swearing and shouting at everyone. Romances a lunatic and tells him she won't give up on him, even though.. Yeah. Lunatic. Then cuts off her arm, acts like its no biggie and replaces it with a crossbow when she becomes a Jenny. Awesome.

He's referring to the giant Saarebas - the qunari mage. They are magically leashed to their handlers(the main Qunari lady). If they go too far from them it causes them immense pain
