Regarding the Qun: I think the philosophy - like many things that happens to solas - was actually misinterpreted by Koslun.  Or possibly manipulated by Koslun to fit his own personal feelings(as these things go).  Which would explain Solas' deep hatred of it. It's essentially his manifesto/his personal ideologies of freedom(things that he clearly would die for and kill others for) twisted into something horrible.

Does anybody savor the delicious irony of Solas giving you so much approval every time you activate an artifact to strengthen the veil? I don't know, knowing he wants to destroy it now, it makes me laugh thinking about it.

Why help close the Breach and send Inky running around activating veil strengthening artefacts?

 

I think there must be something different in the way Cory caused the Breach and the way Solas will attempt to remove the Veil. Two things that the Breach caused did not sit well with Solas. One was that it was harming spirits, and the other was that it was causing suffering for people. His plan may be different in that he's trying to minimize the harm caused on creatures of the Fade, and that modern people will not see it coming. (That's how he likes to kill them in battle too, isn't it? Most of his targets never even notice him.) Basically he wants to give people a moment of peace and comfort, followed by a death they won't see coming. You know, like slaughtering farm animals. *shudders*

 

He also mentioned that his plan was to go physically into the Fade first, and then remove the Veil. So there must be something he has to do in there that did not factor in the creation of the Breach.

No seriously, my Lavellan picked that option. She was glad to see him, I guess. She wanted to have rebel elven babies.
And his answer KILLED ME. The way he says he can't take her with him. *sobs*

I will always consider a Lavellan inquisitor who romanced Solas as canon for DA:I. The story makes so much sense and it makes you connect with the characters in every way.

 

Romance aside, I like his character even more.They let us see the good and the bad, he's one of the most interesting and intriguing characters from Bioware EVER, considering we're getting info about him from the first game.
I need to clear my mind and come back to read through the pages I missed. Gosh. That hurt.

 

Amazing DLC, awesome ride. There's no way we'll get a new protag for DA4. No damn way.

I disbanded the inquisition and I like my choice. Will have to try keeping it alive and see how things go.

 

P.S. Iron Bull/Dorian ismy new favourite thing.

I think he's in control and her "wisp" is merely enhancing his underlying...uh...problems(he has a host of issues).  But the cadence of his voice in the final scene is so off.  He's speaking kind of flat and it's really disconcerting.  But yeah...I think -- in the end -- she's been the one pulling the strings no Solas. I think she played on his need to "DO SOMETHING" because I think -- the punishment of locking the pantheon up -- was not enough. I think she wants them deader than dead.

I've had that idea itching at the back of my mind since I woke up. Kind of like she's just using him to her own ends. I don't want to diminish him as an antagonist, because whoa yeah, but I do wonder if there isn't some sort of guilt-compulsion feeding thing going on somewhere, somehow. So many new questions...

Yeah, pretty sure there are huge artifacts and machinery to disable on both sides of the veil. But then, if he needs to go to the Fade to remove the Veil, people trapped in the Fade might have had access to it too? It's gonna be very interesting to get to know how he managed to set up the Veil, and what's holding it together. Must be very intricate and huge.

Probably. Then he'll be left in front of the Inquisitor who'll chose to either kill him, or not. But I so can see Mythal do that trick to him. Never lose faith in Mythal.

And mine angsts, but he doesn't feel the need to be angsty all the time (one of the reasons why I was put off the 2003 anime.  When I read the manga I was shocked by just how much I enjoyed his character compared to how dour I'd found him in 2003 anime.

Laidlaw said before that Solas has complex feelings on Mythal. Wonder what they are and how that plays in to things.

 

If he is just being set up and used, driven by compulsion for one reason or another, that would be... delicious. Far more depth than "yep, I'mma do this thing because." Just think of the story we can get out of that. Then you have to wonder at what line he is still responsible for things, but then I go back to not wanting to find an "excuse" for him and take away what he could be as an antagonist. Eh. I don't know.

It could very well be the case, but doesn't sit well with me. Solas has, ultimately, never been an outright liar. He omits to talk about stuff when that suits him, but doesn't tend to make the Inquisitor believe that one thing is the truth while the opposite is. That would be a first, and also kinda out of character.

So I was totally crying on my husband's shoulder last night. (No shame!... Err, ok maybe some shame.) 

 

One of my very first reactions after finishing DLC that I was upset about was: How can Solas be OK with it? What kind of mind state is he in that he would think it's OK to go through with this?

 

My hisbands response was: Maybe he's like Edward Elric in the 2003 anime, when he is about to sacrifice all those prisoners in Lab 5 to make a Philosopher's Stone, all so that he can give his brother his body back and thus correct his mistake. He knows it is wrong to sacrifice innocent lives, but for a moment, all that matters is the promise to right what he's done wrong. So he's about to touch that transmutation circle and kill the prisoners, and his hand shakes while doing it... And in the last moment he decides he can't.

 

And that explanation made me feel much better. Remembering it now it still does.
