So I've been re-watching the vanilla game's romance scenes and oh my god. This goddamn scene. It always kind of baffled me before, but now it makes so much sense.

 

 

Also, I just love how the Inquisitor seems as baffled as I am.

 

"ARE YOU SUPER SURE THE ANCHOR DIDN'T CHANGE YOU?"

 

"Yes? ...Why?"

 

"OH, UH, NO REASON."

 

EDIT: Also, you can basically plug in the things he's not saying.

 

"Most people are [so foreign to me that I can't empathize with them at all]"

 

"You have shown [that maybe I was wrong and I just haven't been trying hard enough]"

I deliberately replayed an entire canon character to make sure he never sacrificed the chargers in any of my canons.  I was wondering if it was worth it and then I saw that.  It would make me so sad.  But then again I replayed it because his response end game when you sacrificed them was to depressing to keep.

Yes, he turns on you regardless of whether you take him along to confront Vidassala or not. He walks into the room and says, "Good call, not taking me along." (Or something similar)

It could very well be the case, but doesn't sit well with me. Solas has, ultimately, never been an outright liar. He omits to talk about stuff when that suits him, but doesn't tend to make the Inquisitor believe that one thing is the truth while the opposite is. That would be a first, and also kinda out of character.

It also adds another layer to, "But losing you would..." The Inquisitor is, very literally, his anchor. The one person who's real to him. A friend in a foreign land. He so desperately doesn't want to lose that.

 

How the hell did this DLC make Solas even sadder?! This is like...fridge sadness. Sadness squared.

Why help close the Breach and send Inky running around activating veil strengthening artefacts?

 

I think there must be something different in the way Cory caused the Breach and the way Solas will attempt to remove the Veil. Two things that the Breach caused did not sit well with Solas. One was that it was harming spirits, and the other was that it was causing suffering for people. His plan may be different in that he's trying to minimize the harm caused on creatures of the Fade, and that modern people will not see it coming. (That's how he likes to kill them in battle too, isn't it? Most of his targets never even notice him.) Basically he wants to give people a moment of peace and comfort, followed by a death they won't see coming. You know, like slaughtering farm animals. *shudders*

 

He also mentioned that his plan was to go physically into the Fade first, and then remove the Veil. So there must be something he has to do in there that did not factor in the creation of the Breach.

I think the fact that the Breach turned spirits into demons is the issue. There are lots of codex/banter hints that elves and spirits might be... related? interchangeable? I think every spirit that is corrupted by the Breach (or silly mages!) is another Elvhen Solas can't save.

I haven't played it yet!!!!!!!! I Stopped following this thread but then I heard the news that he is in the DLC and I am freaking out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh gods please make it be good. I'm downloading right now!!

 

I have pretty much been unable to play the game since it ended. I didn't play the other DLCs either because I was so heartbroken. I'm playing them tonight!!

Patrick Weekes had a whole lot of fantears as his breakfast, I think. And then he worked on the Solas sadness formula. Add three buckets of fantears, two spoons of anger, four scoops of utter intrigue mixed with four scoops of not being completely satisfied, five bags full of dread locks and a whole wolf pelt, as well as a sh*t ton of depth and to top it all of a wonderful voice. Tadaaa! Solas.

 

Yeah, Inky as a Lavellan romancing him (and to an extent even a friendly Inquisitor) is pretty much his red string of fate. And yet he tries desperately to cut it - he just can't erase it completely, as can be seen in his ending slide. Uwah, Solas!

This. Exactly this.  I'm not angry or upset.  I didn't feel like this DLC changed Solas's character.  There might be some hi-jinks with Mythal but overall most of what he said I didn't see as being out of character.  I felt like it followed the course we thought it would follow and then just made him more tragic. But where there is tragic there is the opportunity for a tragic hero right?  Right?....  

 

Also that Solas must have gotten so overwhelmed that his response was the equivalent of this in the world of Thedas:
