It is indeed.  I always think of Anders in these situations.  I don't like him (although romancing and remaining a fan of Solas is making me reconsider on that one) but I love talking about him.

The funny thing is I killed Anders, because he actually asked to die...Either as a martyr or as someone who is being controlled...

Of course not.  They're men.  Video games are made for men!  Only they can enjoy them properly.  Women players need pretty things and attractive men to distract them from that difficult job of button pushing.

I am a man who did not romance Morrigan. She is, deep down, a difficult person to like. To begin with she is acerbic. Then she disapproves if you try to help Redcliffe and try to help Kinloch Hold's mages.

She also approves of you selling City Elves to Tevinter slavers who were using blood magic, she approves of you preserving the Anvil to make more golems and she approves if you defiled Andraste's ashes with blood.

She also tells you to reject her while secretly hoping that you don't. If a woman tells me she no longer wants to be in a relationship with me, I walk away. No drama, no BS.

She then persuades you to have a child with her and then bars you from seeing the child unless if you explicitly and repeatedly asked her. A mother who does not let the father of a child have at least a look at him willingly is not really nice.

Oh don't get me wrong, when I was younger I was head over heels for Morrigan. Then as I grew older and matured, I started liking her less and less. Now my canon Hero of Ferelden is just friends with her. He romances and hardens Leliana.

So...shameless self-promotion:  I started a thing.  A post-Trespasser thing.

No worries :D

It helps distract me from overthinking it all. Damn that elf.

Spoiler

Haha it's like we are back in January again.

Everyone must hate Solas. People can only like him if we wanna bang him. All elves suck and should die.

Hooray!

Ok, definitely time to go to sleep. I wonder if I'll have weird Dragon Age dreams...

I get so frigging tired of the elf hate.  Can they go to TES fandom?  Loads of room for elven hate there!

*sigh* and it looks like the 'women only like Solas because he's attractive' folk are out in force again.  Oh, BSN.  Never change.

So... even those who think he's ugly suddenly changed their tune? I suppose they noticed as well that an extra effort was put into making him look especially good - the armor, the music, the voice acting... and I can't help but to notice additional work put into his animation, be it posture, the way he moves or facial expressions. Pretty damn good job, that. I totally buy that he's the Dread Wolf and that his favorite color is Melancholy.

Also, I can't help but to think that I know now exactly why they gave Solas the unusual eye shape - so he could make Professional Sad Face.

Well the thing about TES elves is that they're all pretty much bastards - and most people love them exactly for it.

While elves in DAI have been usually portrayed as victims and only now we find out about their complicated history and relation with the world.

Well, kinda. More like mini-fanfiction that is written almost a little poem-like, because I want to make it into a mini picture book. Kind of like the ending sliders of Trespasser. =)

Wait, so in the fandom where they're actually racist, genocidal slave owners they're loved for it, and in the fandom where they're historically opressed people they're hated for it.

Oh internet.

Altmer Aedric superiority !

You dare fight a Dunmer, N'wah ?!

Bosmer cannbalism & tree hugging !

Mutated blind Snow Elves.

Deep Elf technological superiority !

No one bests an Orc !

Say what you will about TES Elves but they are badasses. They are the kind of Elves you would not want to mess around with.

Though the Bosmer and Orsimer are not so bad. People love the Dunmer because of Morrowind and they love the Altmer because of Queen Ayrenn who is voiced by Kate Beckinsale.

Internet: Never change.

Solas: Please do change.

Aww, thank you! People most often write about all of the hugely depressing stuff, but I always think that the saddest things are often those that you stumble over throughout your normal day. Nothing huge and world shattering, but the silent, creeping way of letting you know how deeply you are affected. Do you think this could work out for a little picture book? =) I'd like your post, but the like harvest hasn't grown any fruits yet.

I know. I roleplayed a Bosmer Dragonborn who was a vegetarian and worked as a lumberjack part time. Talk about going against faith. Bosmer outside of Valenwood do not follow the faith so they are the most liked Elves by the other races. They also reproduce a lot more than other Elves and have no qualms about going interracial.

Basically Bosmers are my favorite TES Elves followed by Orsimer. Those poor Orcs just want to live their lives in peace and look for a good fight.

I love playing as a non-typical Altmer.  Totally chill with everyone, a thief, rarely used magic (she's only good at illusion magic) and decided to infiltrate the Embassy by donning Thalmor robes and saying 'what up, fellow Thalmor!'

I was a Bosmer in Oblivion, though.

I think it could work as a picture book.  Are you going to use the same style as the ending slides?  Because that is how I pictured it.

If I might add my two cents:

My boyfriend once said that fantasy races tend to be exaggerations of aspects of human nature, and he has a point; orcs are the bulky, brutish, thuggish; dwarves the miners, smiths, artisans and craftsmen; halflings the curious, light-hearted, gypsy-like; gnomes the philosophers, intellectuals, and tinkerers.

I think most modern fantasy elves are seen to embody aspects of humanity that is not "cool" to the general public. They are the slim and slight, the intuitive and artistic, the emotional and mystical. They are the environmentalists, the "hippy tree-huggers," the wine-sippers, the cat-lovers, the poets and (non-rock or rap) musicians.

They aren't generally seen as big, buff, hairy, "manly," or "badass" like your typical grizzled beefcake Hollywood action star or AAA game protagonist. They are seen to embody softer, gentler, and more emotional (and dare I say it? "feminine") features, while most people prefer the rougher, tougher, more stoic and violent and "action-y" features.

Given our modern society's generally (though not universally) anti-intellectual, artistic, and environmental mainstream attitudes, I think people will find some reason to dislike fantasy elves.
