Echoing both of you here, relating to humans is difficult for some of us. I don't have the same experience as you guys, but I have Aspergers syndrome. In an educational book about Asperger (called All Cats Have Asperger, highly recommend) there is a picture that made me cry because I thought I was alone until then. It was a picture of a cat looking out of a window to the night sky with the text "[a child with Asperger] might sometimes feel out of place, like they are from another world" and it just hit me. When I interact with humans I feel like an alien. I guess that's part of the reason I can't outright damn Solas for his thinking.
I have a rather strong difficulty playing as a human in any game. I think that's why I never really liked Hawke or my Trevallean.
Aw, you're in good company. =) *hugs, and pulls Habbits Honeypot into the hug*
Some teachers suspected I had Aspergers when I was younger, although my mom isn't sure if it's in-born, or if it's just a product of my upbringing.
Still, when you don't relate, you don't relate. It can be hard though, since humans are inherently social animals, and our society places such a huge emphasis on extroversion and social skills. Most jobs are in the service industry, and require interacting with people day-after-day. Being so pressured to be extroverted, social, interractive, etc. all the time and being made to feel that there's something wrong with you because you just don't... well, it sucks.
(By the way, have any of you seen Susan Cain's Ted Talks on "The Power of Introverts"?)
I definitely agree with you though that I don't like playing human characters. Actually, not in the least. In fact, I really dislike human characters. If there is a game that allows race selection, I'll always play the non-human.
It's actually part of the reason I'm having trouble getting into the Mass Effect series. I played Dragon Age first, and half-expected Mass Effect to have race selection too (I looked forward to seeing BioWare's interesting interracial relationships from each race's point of view in a sci fi setting the way I could enjoy it in DA's fantasy setting, and still haven't adjusted to the fact that Mass Effect's PC and POV is 100% human, and we'll never see the Turian or Asari or Geth POV as the player character.)
