I hope so too. I hope they didn't change their minds because a couple of devs are getting rude comments by a few varric fans.

I don't think they're bothered by a few rude comments, it's to be expected in their positions.  By the time Inquisition is launched they'll get plenty more rude comments, they just need to laugh them off and move on.

 

We likely won't see the post in question til Monday at the earliest, or whatever random video convention they decide to go to next week.  So much simpler if video game developers posted information when it's ready to be posted instead of holding it til random conventions.

Cassandra and Cullen were announced at a PAX panel, but that was a last-minute thing because Cullen's VO spilled most of the beans about his LI status a little less than a week before.  But that's a good point: half the LI's have been announced via social media... or off a TV show. You're making me think that all new LI announcements will probably be coming by magazine or website interviews.

Well, the Varric thing is a tough one. Half the fans want romance and half doesn't (and many have strong feelings against it) so I guess they had to take it safe.

 

But with Varric out of the way (and I was so sure it was him when they said one of the 2 left would be race restricted romance) means that there are only 3 romance candidates left! Blackwall, Solas and Vivienne.

Myself I'm pretty sure that it's not going to be Blackwall since I think he's to old and being a veteran Grey Warden. So that would make Solas and Vivienne, unless they have a secret companion/adviser they haven't yet told anybody about.

 

So if it is Solas, I wonder if it will be gim being race-restricted or Vivienne? Seeing Vivienne, with her love for fashion and maybe love for playing the game and being part of the high life it does sound like it might be her.

But then again, I remember reading something about Solas having some form of problem with some types of people so maybe he dislikes humans? Or have I misunderstood something? I don't really know much about him.

There is some sort of convention this week I believe, I figure with Varric slipping out they'll want to end the speculation now.  IMO they should come out on Monday and say it but they'll likely wait til their little booth seminar thingy they're doing.

Well I don't think I've read anywhere or heard that Solas has a problem with some types of people...he's also known as open-minded so I don't think he will be race gated at all. But we don't know for sure yet.

Less playing it safe and more it was not the story they wanted to tell with that character. People really seem to think fan opinion and desire weighs in with things like this more than they probably do. It's really disappointing for a lot of people that Varric won't be a romance character, but if that's who he is, then I hope they can accept him for that anyway. I'm sure the story he has left to tell will be awesome regardless.

Well, Mike Laidlaw said it was because of the fan-feedback, because many fans didn't want Varric to change. They want him and Bianca.

It's something we've been very careful with. When we started developing Inquisition, we really took in feedback from fans and listened close. We went with our hunches about what people seemed to hold dear in the Dragon Age franchise. We know that if we were to remove certain features, we will disappoint a lot of fans. Varric is one such thing. Many fans wish to fall in love with him, while others do not. So as we say 'no' today, that is a 'no' based on a lot of thought.

But they obviously have something in the story also. I'm not saying that it was just because of the fans but in this case, fan-feedback had a big part in it.

I hope I won't appear insensitive, but I don't really get how people could be so bummed, as if they were crushed. For the othe Lis, I understand. For Solas, i'd understand. But the chances of Varric were very bad since the beginning, and nothing ever was said or showed that could make us think that he could become an LI. Since the beginning, I felt that the Varricancers shouldn' t hope anything at all. ( well, we are humans, so obviously it isn't that easy lol ) There were many statements after DAII about varric and how it might be unfinished with Bianca for example. If anything, they should have expected that there were more chances that he wouldn't become an LI.

 

Many folks told them that Varric being an Li was just very unlikely. I thought they would be very ready, and it appears that it wasn't the case at all. Many times , lurking their thread I felt, wow they are way too excited for a character with so few chances to be an LI. I would have said something many times, but finaly decided to stay silent when I saw how they could be hostile everytime that someone told them something close to what I thought. 

 

So I'm sorry for them but I'm definitely surprised.

I agree with you and I kept my mouth shut about Varric after getting screamed at for doubting Aveline's LI status years ago before DA II came out (even though I was right).

I had Varric pegged as a romance option because I don't see Solas or Blackwall as the romance type, but I am not surprised he's not an option, for me that just means I won't roll a female Dwarf, it's not like she was on my priority of characters anyways.

 

I'm not surprised at the reactions in the thread though at him being announced as not a LI.  It's one of the reasons why I try to avoid these character threads, I enjoy talking about these characters but some people take their obsessions beyond normal, it's one of the reasons that lead to the Mass Effect companion forums being shut down.

If solas turned out not to be a love interest because when we first took him to our keep he met Dagna, they completely magic nerded out at each other and spent long nights together talking about their theories and passion and what they've done to study magic I would not only find that acceptable but really really cute.

 

I mean I'd love to romance him but that would be adorable.
