For a while I've had this theory. 

 

"Her" and "she" has been coming up a lot in dialogue about Solas with cole. Especially the "all new, faded for her" quest name. 

 

Is it so crazy that "her/she" is Mythal? That Mythal helped provide spirit-Solas with a body, and maybe that is why she is a "creator?" 

 

Look at last part of dialogue here:

This might be why Mythal and Solas are so close. He was devoted to her from the fade, she introduced him to the physical world.

It's when you go talk to spirit Cole after you've returned from your first crossroads excursion. Here's a screenshot of some more things he said that I think related to Solas..

First one: He was Felassan's friend and boss, and regretted killing him over seeing Briala and modern Thedosians as people.
Second: I'm not quite sure. He broke the Fade to prevent...the Evanuris from returning? Or to prevent something even older, whatever they were doing to bring about the end of the world? The Blight and the Calling? *shrug* I'm reminded of Drakon's prophecy again, the wolf devouring dreams.
Third: The spirits are terrified of becoming demons in another Breach event.
Fourth: Reluctantly the leader of the rebellion/current rebellion. Lots of bare-chested elves like Abelas frolicking. Much fan-art.
Fifth: What the-I'm with EggCrusher on this possibly being about the elves who never came down to get a body. Elves seem to be as much spirit as elf. Would explain a lot of Kieran's talk. Burning it off his face? Was he originally a slave to Mythal or Ghilan'nain? Is this where his forehead scar comes in? What the devil is going on?
And why would the elves need slaves if they could do everything in the Fade with magic? As fuel? Did they still need manual labor?
And what's up with Solas in general? The Codex on the Evanuris warning about him suggests that he's always been in his humble hermit guise, and that the Evanuris were terrified of him and his knowledge 'corrupting' the minds of the People against them.

is it possible that Solas was once more of a spiritual being? There's a codex in the crossroads hinting that some elves never had a fully physical form. It was in the library, I don't know how to find it to show you guys. 

 

If so, that would be totally insane and fascinating. It would explain the creation of the elves, and as Solas puts it, "the first of our kind."

Its also possible that all 'original' elvhen originated in this fashion. We still don't know how Mythal was able to survive after being killed. Solas says they 'were mortal' but also that 'his people are hard to kill.' 

 

Tinfoil hat theory- but its also possible that this is how slaves originated. Eventually spirit elves breed, and produce completely physical elves that lack the talents of their progenitors.

"Brethren of the air" is the term used for Elvhen outside of the fade? Or those that stay inside? Lots of interesting things to mull over..

Huh. You suppose that might be what he meant with all that being real, did the anchor change you talk? Or the rare and marvelous spirit bit? Lavellan seems just a bit more "Fade spirit real" than others do, at least in his eyes? And I guess by that extension that they are all real, even if not in the way he wants/remembers. 

 

I don't know, it's gotten late and now I'm rambling.

So let's take a look at Mythal and Solas's meeting. Clearly, Mythal is willing to go along with his plan. But, er, what the devil has Mythal been trying to do for centuries?
1) Wake up the Great Dragons, using the Theirins as pawns.
2) Grab Old God souls using a Warden, hosting the 'purified' soul in a child and then taking the power for herself.

These all seem to be about preserving as much of the old power as possible. Preserving her world as best she could with the Veil still intact. Perhaps she couldn't tear down the Veil because she didn't know how, as Solas designed it? 
Then she's willing to die to give that power to Solas. Did they have the same goal? Does she just want vengeance on the Evanuris, or does she like the idea of restoring the world as it was too? Is she using him?
I don't see Mythal as taking in elves to shelter them from Solas's plans, if some fragment of her still exists. I see her acting as Solas's friend and ally, as it was in the old days.

Oh, I'm like, 99% sure Mythal is using Solas. You don't declare you want vengeance and then let yourself die before you get it so easily.

Remember his line from the very beginning of the game?  "The thrill of discovering remnants of a thousand year old dream?  I would not trade it for anything in the world."

 

He says it with such fervor because he has nothing else left.  Nothing of his world but those lost fragments of dream.  He loves exploring the Fade, but that's because he hoards these memories of Elvhenan.

"Broken" is the perfect way to put it. It's completely broken, the way I see it. And though it is Solas' fault, he is the only person that can fix what he has done. I'd rather it be fixed by him, than never fixed at all.

He feels resigned to it even if there are bits that seem as if he might want to be stopped or 95% committed rather than 100%. He pushes it all down, because past past past. His whole world is gone and it's because of him.

 

But as with the banter with Varric proves, his view of modern life, of the world, of certain situations isn't 'dust yourself off and make do however you can', it's fix-fix-fix or despair, no matter what the consequences are.

 

They added so many layers of sad. Solas, listen to Varric. If the guy on the island can make a life for himself in the world, so can you.

And this is why he needs our Quizzy's help. He probably just figures "I always keep messing things up, might as well continue doing so." But he knows that we have changed things and deep down he might secretly hope that we will show him another way. Remember when he tells us "You continue to surprise me"? We need to do just that!

So, I was thinking about the conversation you have with Solas. When you ask about how elvhen mages become gods and talks about the war....:Adjusts tin foil hat:: I think that they were at war with the Titans. I could have sworn I read a codex that about the titans, waking and fighting, because people were taking pieces of them to create more...... people or something like that. Then the elves ended up making them forget, and all was settled more or less.

Playing Devil's Advocate a tiny bit

He said he woke up a year before the Breach happened, right?  I think it might be hard for him to see anything but the past.  I am assume he was alive for hundreds, possibly thousands of years, before he even put up the Veil.  What's a year to a being with that kind of life span?  Nothing, I bet.  I am not excusing his viewpoint.  Just some perspective. 

 

It's so sad he can't let go of his past long enough to see the good that does exist in modern Thedas, for example the Inquisition.  All he can see is all of the suffering, and he caused it.
