I hope I won't appear insensitive, but I don't really get how people could be so bummed, as if they were crushed.
Speaking only for myself, I never thought Varric would be a romance. (I've been betting on Vivienne and Solas for months now.) I just hoped he would be, without any expectation that it would actually happen. That doesn't mean it's not sad to have that last sliver of hope crushed.
I'm just despondent because I love the guy, and because I've waited fifteen years so far for a dwarf/dwarf romance. Now I get to wait another five or ten or fifteen or however long it takes someone to make one.

It's not necessarily dwarf but Neverwinter Nights did have an Azer romance (within kingmaker expansion pack), Azers are decendants of dwarves with flaming hair (literally their hair is on fire), who wouldn't love a fire headed stocky dwarf-like figure wearing a metallic kilt XD Unfortunately it's not much but it is probably the closest you'll be able to get for right now...

oh my glob, I never clarified if it was an L or I. (It shows up as an I for you?) I just assumed L for some reason and then jumped to life-span or something and was good ever since. WHOOPS!
I'm gonna embrace it! Maybe if they think I'm weird enough they'll feel too uncomfortable to bring it up
It's actually ispan, a minor character from the Wheel of Time, but she doesn't get a lot of development so I like life-span more

My reaction every time he says "...no one living, at any rate." I've clicked it more than a few times and I can't stop doing the goofy giggly wiggle.

I love voices where a lilting accent pops in every now and then depending on the word. It seems like it'll be that way with Solas and I'll fangirl a little bit every time it happens!
The first time I have a conversation with him, I'm going to all out swoon!
Edit: Also, Blackwall sounds SO familiar. I really want to know his VA already!
He seems really familiar to me too, but I can't place him. I'm sure when they say we'll just groan and go "ohh, of course it is!"

For the othe Lis, I understand. For Solas, i'd understand. But the chances of Varric were very bad since the beginning, and nothing ever was said or showed that could make us think that he could become an LI. Since the beginning, I felt that the Varricancers shouldn' t hope anything at all. ( well, we are humans, so obviously it isn't that easy lol ) There were many statements after DAII about varric and how it might be unfinished with Bianca for example. If anything, they should have expected that there were more chances that he wouldn't become an LI.
Many folks told them that Varric being an Li was just very unlikely. I thought they would be very ready, and it appears that it wasn't the case at all. Many times , lurking their thread I felt, wow they are way too excited for a character with so few chances to be an LI. I would have said something many times, but finaly decided to stay silent when I saw how they could be hostile everytime that someone told them something close to what I thought.
So I'm sorry for them but I'm definitely surprised.
They clung desperately to their hopes, as people are wont to do, is all. The folk of the Varric thread are more sad than angry by a long way.

I agree with you and I kept my mouth shut about Varric after getting screamed at for doubting Aveline's LI status years ago before DA II came out (even though I was right).
I had Varric pegged as a romance option because I don't see Solas or Blackwall as the romance type, but I am not surprised he's not an option, for me that just means I won't roll a female Dwarf, it's not like she was on my priority of characters anyways.
I'm not surprised at the reactions in the thread though at him being announced as not a LI. It's one of the reasons why I try to avoid these character threads, I enjoy talking about these characters but some people take their obsessions beyond normal, it's one of the reasons that lead to the Mass Effect companion forums being shut down.
Let me take some time to get OT and defend the Varric fans here even though I know most of you don't have bad intentions with these posts. I think you guys have completely exaggerated the reactions and responses they had. I have been in there before the reveal to say I didn't have high hopes and they agreed with me. I've never seen them shout at anyone or get angry. Trust me, they did hear it a lot from different people and perhaps one or two may have had a bitter response but come on!
The guys who frequent the Varric thread are lovely people. I'm going to pout at y'all for not only being a bit insensitive in a place where they can read it (I wasn't aware fans only stuck to their own threads, comeon!) but also making assumptions based on one or two posts here and there that could be seen as a little over the top or aggressive.
Sure, they were told not to be hopeful but fans are like that. We are all a bit dramatic at times when it comes to things we love. Give them some slack, please. It's also something that might alienate them and create clicks. Trust me, we have enough of that crap in here as it is. I'm the type to run around every fan thread but a lot of people get scared away easily.
Let me be blunt by saying that this isn't a personal friend chat room and everyone can see what you write. I know some of y'all care if someone's feelings get hurt and they will have been. I feel like I need to remind most fan threads of that. I love you guys, but just please. It is stuff like this that has made the BSN less fun than it used to be.

If he is in matter of fact, not romanceable... GWAAAH! His voice... gorgeous. Love the accent. And so dark. Did not expect that at all. I kinda though Dorian would have a voice like that, and Solas slighly less..dark and sexy. He kind of sound like Fenris in one way.
Please BW, you cant have a hot elf with that voice, and not make him a romance?!
I was so confused when I woke up to people (not regulars) being in the Solas thread saying the Varric fans should have known better. Unnecessary and very much the wrong place to do it. If people want to talk about the odds of any particular romance happening, there is still a surviving romance thread.

Yes. And i agree the majority of Varric fans are taking it just fine... It's only a couple posters who of course are going to stand out who aren't, and a few rude ones on twitter. And the people going into the Varric thread and going 'I told you so' or similar are being just as immature.
We Solas fans know what it feels like to be told our favorite character is ugly, or boring, or oviously going to betray us because he 'looks evil'. Or obviously not a romance because apparently introverts/intellectuals/people who enjoy solitude or are socially awkward are incapable of love or uninterested in sex or relationships. By posters who might not realize that, rather ironically, a number of the real life people who want him as a romance could fit into those categories themselves.

I am no longer sad that Varric is not an LI. Yesterday, I was but I'm pregnant and hormonal. I realize it was unlikely from the start. But, I will defend other who are still upset... they hav been wanting to romance him since DA2. Why should the not be upset? They're not over reacting. they're hurt and it would be nice if you thought how you would feel in their place with something you waited for and the one thing you looked forward to in DAI. I dont feel that way but some do. We have come in here respectful and we like to see the Solas thread as our other safe place and welcoming. I might not be offended by the words or upset by the insensitivity but, I think some others would and I don't want them to feel the Solas thread is the character thread being the most unsupportive considering our "friendship". I don't believe it but some people are still sensitive and might feel unwelcomed here. I did for. second but I had just woke up and was disoriented.
I wont say anything in threa posts more about it here, But if you wish to discuss or anything, PM me or find me at the Varric thread.

I cannot imagine him being race gated nor only straight/gay. He seem to be that kind who falls in love with the person, not race or gender. Just my guess.

Most of us are more upset over how long it took for Bioware marketing to spill the beans. We knew we had a slim chance, but hey better stay positive than cry yourself to sleep, right? And we do appreciate all the support that we got from you guys! I know some of you never saw him as an option and that's ok! But you support the Varricmancers as people, and that's wonderful! The empathy is strong in this thread.
And with that being said: fingers crossed for Solas confirmation soon! I can't believe how long they are dragging this out, it's not good.
