I really don't think he will be. I know a lot of people, not in here, but in the forums at large, seem to believe it but I have no idea where they got that idea. The whole 'open-minded' and not wanting to be seen as an elf thing really seems to contradict it. I know one Solas thread-er speculated the whole no-dwarves because they can't dream thing, but it was just that - idle speculation of a possibility - which I was rather amused to see spread through the forums and become 'a thing,' After all, it's highly likely that a dwarf who got pulled into the Fade and spit back out with a piece of it stuck in their hand would be able to dream - much like Oghren did after his Joining.

 

I could see Cullen being race-gated, or Vivienne. Even Cass or Dorian, or hell, even Sera. Solas honestly seems the least likely out of the possibles. Except maybe Blackwall - I doubt he's an LI (but who knows?) but we don't know enough about him to speculate - other than the fact that he's a Grey Warden which should in theory make him open-minded as well.

I was so confused when I woke up to people (not regulars) being in the Solas thread saying the Varric fans should have known better.  Unnecessary and very much the wrong place to do it.  If people want to talk about the odds of any particular romance happening, there is still a surviving romance thread.

Agreed.  Solas and Blackwall are probably the two least likely to be race gated based on what we know.  Maybe someone has dwarf/elf/human/qunari-related trauma in their backstory that we don't know about but with what we've got, everyone else seems more likely for a race gate.

I'd like to think Solas would be smart enough to get out of the way if IB was tossing people (being an elf, he's likely at the top of the list for tossing candidates).  Watching it happen though?  Yes.

I think it's because Solas has an interesting reason to be gated, unlike, say, Sera, who's suggested gating of 'not humans' doesn't really hold up when you consider that mages are nobles and that, at one point, all Inquisitors were human. Unless they added her romance after the addition of playable races. 

 

That said, I still think that Solas is one of the less-likely possible characters to be gated. Honestly, we don't know any of these characters well, and we're probably going to be shocked when the actual gating it revealed. And then the forums will debate endlessly about why so-and-so is gated such way. (I will be participating.)

See Solas is an introverted intellectual. As one myself, let me tell you how it is when it comes to romance. 

 

When it comes to romance and relationship, the main thing is sexual vs asexual, desire vs lack of desire as opposed to gay vs bi vs straight or humans vs elves vs dwarves vs qunari or dreams vs no dreams. 

 

Remember Mordin in ME2 ? His words on romance ? That is what introverted intellectuals are like when it comes to romance. They either have the desire to bang or they don't. When they do, they don't exactly discriminate. When they don't, they don't discriminate as well.

 

The intellectual work they do is very important though so if they can connect to someone intellectually and/or philosophically, the banging will happen and it will be quite passionate.

 

So if Solas is a love interest, most likely his romance will revolve around his passions and his work and how you as the Inquisitor view them. In all likelihood he won't be gated for it.

The bitter, old grump in me would lol if Vi is race gated but it's not the expected gate, anyone not human is the one for our Vivienne. But more seriously if she was going to be gated it would make sense to me for it to be a class gate, that she had a preference for mages.  There's a basic natural understanding there that could side-step the dreaded Defrosting The Ice Queen trope. 

 

At this point I think Solas is a given as a love interest the question is if and how is he restricted?

Since Solas's battlecry is apparently "it's more complicated than that" and he hates being seen first as an elf, race gating seems awfully unlikely for him.

I think most of us know that is what you were saying in your post last night,so no worries I agree with you. I feel for the varric fans and understand about having that sliver of hope we Solas fans know what that is like. I have said my condolences to them here and on their thread and meant every word. I felt he wasn't going to be an LI but didn't know for sure that's why I never go to somebody else's fan thread and tell them they are hoping for something that isn't going to happen that is just low. I understood what Sylvianus was talking about last night and I don't think he/she was trying to be harsh to the varric fans at all. He/She was just surprised with how crushed the varric fans were. 

 

I think the varric thread is full of nice people and I am glad they are taking it well,those trolls however are giving them a bad name and I don't like it one bit.

 

 

Anyways that's totally off topic let's get back to Solas.

So I was thinking the other day, and it's unlikely, but what if Solas is the one companion who won't leave?  It's probably Cassandra because she helps found the Inquisition.  But Solas looks like he may be more relevant to the plot, if it's true that he shows the Inquisitor how to close rifts.

Human mage!  A free mage and a Circle mage could potentially have some interesting conversations.

Elgar'nan willing, I hope so. He does seem extremely related to the plot, so if he leaves, I'd say we're exceptionally screwed.

I think I mentioned this before but.... I'll be romancing him with ALL THE THINGS. It was actually the same with Fenris; no matter which Hawke I made, I always ended up romancing Fenris. I think it was mostly cause I didn't want Isabella to have him... Bu anyways, back on topic, I'll be romancing Solas with every race and both genders (if possible), but I'll start with my fem!elf quizzy.
