So, after finishing I"m sitting here and debating doing another playthrough.......and for the first time ever I think I will be able to do a different LI.
Maybe.

What happend?
Hello, everyone. I hope I'm not intruding. I finished the DLC late last night (stayed up way later than was healthy, lol), and so now I'm hanging out in the forums to see what all I missed. I knew you all do a lot of theory-crafting, so I figured I would ask this question here.

I'm done....for now. I think.
What happend?
I was simply musing. We don't yet have the full picture - but we do know that death in Thedas is different than it is here. Spirits can also die as well - only to be recreated. We know some beings or spirits have ability to be 'reborn', while other can jump bodies. Therefore death in Thedas may have many meanings, or different results.

Just getting a lot of nonsense. People demanding to know the whys and hows.

As a female who just so happens to be bisexual, one of the sexualities barely anyone believes exists, and an advocate for acceptance of all sexualities (as long as they're not illegal) I honestly do not understand the fighting about Solas' sexuality at all.
His sexuality does not effect his character in any way. He's not even a real person, for ***** sake. Sexuality has nothing to do with the character of any individual.
As a bisexual, I would like to be viewed by others mainly as who I am as a person, not by who I'm sexually attracted to.
The fighting about him is honestly slightly offensive, since I've already dealt with so much **** about my sexuality which, honestly doesn't matter.
What's important is the person, not the sexuality.

I'm right down in the middle and like to believe that Solas is demisexual. (I'm demisexual myself, so that's probably partly wishful thinking on my part. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but I like to believe that a character isn't perfectly allosexual for once.) Which, in this case, is pretty funny considering his
ugh both sides of the asexual sexual argument are щ(゚Д゚щ) inducing. its intentionally ambiguous, headcanon and portray/write/draw what you want, dont argue about it in a 'ha! my way is better' or 'omg the other side are sooo wrong' way and leave other people to their interpretations! come on. Solas is the biggest gamechanger Thedas has seen historically and presently and you wanna argue that they banged or didnt bang????

Notice that the word 'soul' is rather rarely used. And from what I see, the 'soul' may simply be what spirit evolves into. Spirits are pretty simple creatures - only those who grow have the capacity of becoming something greater than that. Like Cole. I think Solas and Cole even have some banter about that. Only spirits who have enough of a personality are able to withstand being thrown into Thedas.
On Cole: I wonder if he would even have needed to manifest as human without the veil in the first place. It might have been any kind of human/spirit hybrid need not have existed pre-Solas.
He would likely not manifest as human - I mean, is there any hint at the origin of humans? Or is it like someone somewhere in the franchise said - that back at the time, long ago, there were only elves?
As for Solas caring about spirits, it's party why I find his plan to tear down the veil so baffling. Spirits would be as harmed as people. In fact Cole has a dialogue where spirits are fleeing to the far corners of the Fade, probably in anticipation of what Solas is going to do.
That's the thing, isn't it? Nobody expected the Breach, or at least we get no hint of that. This time its seems that they flee, because they were warned.

Hey, another bi/queer/likes-lots-of-genders person here! *waves flag*
I just wanna add, I know that for some people sexuality is a hugely important part of their general identity, and one that defines the way that they see and experience the world - which is perfectly fine, valid, and fair. For others, like yourself, it's less important, and many of those people feel that a focus on sexuality can be limiting - which is also fine, of course!
I just thought I'd point this difference in opinion out because, well, I find the ace!Solas vs. sexual!Solas debate horribly annoying and boring, but I think it's worth understanding why people also care so much about it.

idk, I think you're right, the whole thing is massively щ(゚Д゚щ) inducing because it's canon that it's ambiguous and up to the reader and probably the Inquisitor in question and that's damn great. It appreciates that this game is an RPG, it involves roleplay and headcanon, whilst also accepting quite happily, yeah, Solas could be ace, go for it, and doesn't shut fans down.
but I will add, like above, sexuality is really important to some people, so I can understand why people get invested in fictional character's sexualities in general, (for some people knowing who a fictional character has banged, or loved, or both, is p. important and reassuring for them, and helps them figure out their own identity in seeing it reflected in fiction, if that makes any sense) it's just I don't think it makes any sense to get upset over it in the case of Solas.
ugh yeah drosophila, the sexual/asexual Solas has been raging since DAI was released. some people (by no means all, its very small minority on each) on both sides of the fence are militant about their interpretations and downright offended by the other side existing or even enraged by suggestions which contradict their own personal ideas about their sexual relationship or lack thereof. I'm queer and it's hugely important to me but meh. I love that it's ambiguous it mean's there's room for everyone! it's not the caring about sexuality or his sexuality that's the problem, it's the way they conduct the whole snafu.

But it is also very important to let people identify themselves as whatever sexuality they wish, right? So if it's already canon that it's ambiguous, why would you force your own views on what Solas should be on others?
Anyway, yeah, that's a bit of a pointless debate. Do you know WTF in the DLC sparked the arguments?

Thank you for these few lines in particular! For me, my sexuality is a pretty important thing, mostly because being demisexual or somewhere on the ace spectrum (not sure where exactly I fit in yet) makes being constantly surrounded by a world so deeply invested in all things sexual - be it advertisements for clothes, dating sites or something entirely different - very difficult. What confused me most was that my schoolmates back when I was in school thought I was a lesbian because I never had a boyfriend before. I never had a girlfriend, either. ![]()
That being said, I think it's great that we can roleplay so much in Inquisition. But the debate about ace Solas or allo Solas is pretty damn confusing and entirely unneccessary. We should appreciate the fact that the game allows us to see Solas in a lot of different shades of grey (no, not the book), not fight over who's Solas headcanon is more canon. ![]()
