So I'm wondering something.
SpoilerIf he's only been awake for a year before the game, when did he have the time to start hating the Dalish? And what exactly happened? Did he reach out to them first and actually try to fix things in Thedas, but became disappointed?
Consdering that they seemed like Tranquil to him, I can see how the encounter went sour. What up nerds gif FTW.
Also - I think people are taking Tranquil comment a bit too far sometimes. For him, the difference between people connected and largely disconnected from the Fade may be AS drastic as normal person meeting the Tranquil and he may view them as 'incomplete', but not as incapable of taking care of themselves as actual Tranquil are. I don't think Solas ever thought of Thedosian in such extreme way. It isn't reflected in his general level of compassion he has and curiosity about many more or less nuanced aspects of their lives - from inquiring Varric about tricksters in literature, to asking Iron Bull how their people wear shirts (I always respond to this banter with "You guys ever heard of frikking BUTTONS!?").
In fact, I think the comment itself was mostly directed at Veil's effect and at levels of guilt he feels - he might have done this, because he had no other choice, but as someone who is about being proactive, independent, passionate, curious and reaching one's peak of potential, it must've been an unbearable thought to realize that while he likely saved elves (and others?) from extinction, he's ultimately responsible for people living in a state where they can never realize their greatness, or suffer due to limited capacity of understanding nature of their own world, locked or swaying into thinking about everything in largely simplistic categories, which push many into wars and conflict and causing the Fade to be crawling with demons.
The liked Inquisitor and others prove him wrong, of course, though the existence of a few exceptions may simply prove the rule, rather than give him hope that more people are 'real'.
