So... I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about this:

 

At the very end, my Inquisitor says something like "my adventuring days are over, but the Inquisition will live on" or something to that effect. Does this mean that our Quizzies aren't coming back in DA4?

 

I mean, all through the scene with Solas, we were given options to say "I won't give up on you" etc. etc., and then there was the very end scene where the Inquisitor marks Tevinter with a dagger... What was all that then? Do you think the Inquisitor will return?

From what I understand, it wasn't just Arlathan that was 'half in the Fade and half in the physical world'. Before the Veil everything in the world would have been half-fade, half-physical, not just the elves. It seems like magic could seep into all aspects of nature--plants, animals, stones, anything. It's not an event that I can imagine affected only the elves, and yet somehow no one's known legends account for it's happening?

Tevinter Imperium: Likely founded many years after the Fall. Their gods explicitly reach out across the Veil to teach them magic. They weren't around to see what Thedas was like. It's not clear if the entire world was a mixture of Fade and reality, or if it was just Thedas. They adopted a lot of elven religion, culture, and magic/technology, making it their own.

 

The educated population among the elves seem to have been the hardest hit by the Fall. Most of them appear to have died in the Crossroads when the magic was cut off. Some may be stuck in uthenera. The slaves and the lower classes likely eked out a living in the ruins, before they were overwhelmed by Tevinter and enslaved for a few thousand years, with the Imperium deliberately trying to destroy their culture and religion. It's amazing they managed to preserve as much as they did. Then cue the diaspora of the Dales, with their temples being torn down and their keepers of knowledge being spread across Thedas, again. 

The dwarves have gaps in their history that were probably deliberate. It's theorized that the sundering of the Veil shut the Titans down and let the dwarves be free, rather than something similar to the Sha-Brytol. If this is the case, then their history and the Memories start after the Veil, and were edited to make sure no one remembers the Titans. After hundreds of generations in a culture that's very insistent that the Memories are perfect and not to be questioned, it's no surprise they don't have a trace of the Veil and how it affected them. 

 

Both Dalish and human religion have tales of gods being sealed away. One in the heavens, one in the underground. In Andrastianism, this is also associated with the Maker turning his gaze from humanity to focus on Wii Bowling. The Dalish use it as an explanation of the elves' plight and their gods not helping. So cultures do have some trace of the trauma caused by the Veil. It's just been distorted because it happened thousands of years ago. They understand some of the repercussions, but they don't know what to blame it on.

 

There are theories that the reason so many cultures and religions in Eurasia have legends about a great flood is that, well, there WAS a great flood. Specifically, the very messy creation of the Black Sea. A lot of the Indo-European tribes that would spread across the world lived around the Black Sea when it happened, and over generations it became re-imagined as a flood that devastated the entire world rather than the area around the Black Sea. Stories get distorted like that even when it is put into writing, much less oral history. It seems to me that this is what happened with the Veil. It was so long ago that, even if there were dedicated scholars from every race recording it, the true story would be mangled. Adding in all of these mitigating factors, with it being practically pre-history for humanity and dwarves and the Arlathan culture it affected most being effectively wiped out, it just makes sense that you don't see many traces of it.

The Avvar are the ones I'd expect to have some knowledge of it, honestly. It's interesting to speculate on how the Veil affected their gods, or if they only formed after.

Well, given their pattern there is likely to be a new protagonist but we don't know anything. And given that Lavellan-Solas is the only romance option without actual final, final closure, I think we're more likely to get something behind the scenes. But again, we know nothing and now is the long wait.

 

Seriously, two of the romance options can have weddings in the DLC (Sera and Cullen - I'm planning my adorable Sera-Trevelyan wedding already ) and all of the other romances can be resolved in one way or another. A new game will surely feature new companions and new romance options.

I thought it was interesting that the stinger--We'll save my Boyfriend, then hes taking me dancing--scene takes place in Haven's dungeon.  It goes back to the first romance scene where Solas says that Haven will always be importan to Lavellan.  And now it's doubly so.  It's a shadow organization chasing a shadow organization...

 

er. at least it is... if we're actually suppose to be in Haven

For me as well. I wandered back over here not knowing what to expect (I had an account on the old BSN) and this thread and everyone here helped with discussions, lore, fun, and the processing of feelings. I needed that, since my real life friends weren't as receptive or didn't understand enough.

Can I just say that if Solas doesn't have some giant, multiple-eyed black wolf form that he reveals later, I'll be SO FRIGGIN DISAPPOINTED. I want it SO bad even if it comes around because we have to boss fight him later!

 

Also, unrelated, his scene with low approval Inquisitor is pretty much my favorite scene in any video game ever. I've been cracking up about it for at least an hour now. Stone cold, man. Stone cold.

Also I just saw the "Wii bowling" exchange and I'm laughing so hard I'm crying. Truly it is the most holy of games.

 

All of you in here are amazing. I just read from deep arguments about Solas to this...this is what we've become. It's pretty much the greatest.
