That was actually what my Trevelyan did! I started DAI with a Trevelyan, but after meeting Solas and travelling with him for some time, I decided she had to be an elf. So I remade her as a Lavellan, same name and as close to the same face as possible (I think it took me about 50-60 hours to try to remake her face). She was my first elf in the DA series

 

That was the most disappointing part of DA2 for me was no elf.  I knew I would roll an elf this time cause I love the elfy-elves. I looked up which romances were available in advance so I could pick my favorite and it was between a weird looking elf and Cullen.  I picked Solas cause he was race gated and I knew I would probably want to play again as another race.  

 

After getting through it the first time I never wanted to roll anything but and elf cause he OWNS MY HEART.  It was the HARDEST thing to do to pick a human.  I swear my finger probably slipped like a hundred times during the creation.  I mean...I like Cullen.  But I must be a gluten for punishment because there is no scenes more intense than Solas.  I'm relatively sure he's eclipsed my Harry Potter fandom(which I thought was impossible) by like a thousand times.  Best/Favorite Fictional Character ever for me.  No matter what happens!!

You know what could be interesting from a storytelling point of view (as long as the inquisitor returns to the next game) If that, in their bid to redeem/save Solas, they continued to mirror Fen'harel's story and had to take more and more morally gray decisions. There is no good decision and the unintended consequences of your choices can be shocking. How long does someone keep the moral high ground when they also use and get others killed for the cause/quest? 

 

Heck, we've done it already. I'm thinking of Bull's quest here. To save the few (the Chargers), we look on as however many Qunari are on the dreadnaught (a hundred? more?) get blown to smithereens. Our hands are bloody already. We have killed, and will kill again before we are through, whatever choices we take in regard to Solas. It's interesting, at least to me. Both the parallels between the inquisitor and Solas, and realizing that you can't win this and stay morally unblemished. It's just not possible when the stakes are this high.

From that post, it looks like you can use cheat engine to unlock it. They're from the MP campaign I think? I thought you were thinking of the specific armor you can find in Trespasser. Also, there seems to be a new set of armor you can get from the main game called gryphon armor?

can see the Inquisitor having a really personal narrative/character heavy campaign - lots of cinematics, maybe kind of linear and a lot shorter- very much focused on the search for ways to stop/save Solas. I love your idea of winter palace-style infiltration and puzzle missions! Perhaps consciously quite high profile, in order to draw Fen'Harel's attention towards what the Inquisitor is doing and away from our second Protagonist. Very small roster of companions, if any at all. Romantic content continued with previous LIs (but all NPCs like Cullen/Josie, maybe), with maybe one new guy/gal for those whose romances didn't work out.

 

Protag 2 would be of the more traditional type - start at level 1, plenty of sidequests and exploring (the whole of Minrathous to explore would be incredible!), story converges with that of the Inq every so often. Also looking into Solas-related stuff (and trying to stay under the radar doing it), but with another main thread woven in - Tevinter/Qunari tensions maybe? A smaller list of comps again (to make up for the fact that there are two parties to provide for), but a couple of romanceables (scout Harding!) Towards end game, the 2nd protag gets to the same 'level' as the Inquisitor and the two protagonists join forces for the final confrontation!

Yeah, after an initial hellspiral of sad feels, I'm actually way more into TO now that I've finished Trespasser. *raises optimism flag proudly*

I honestly expected that we'd get one last token tragic confrontation with Solas, where he'd hint he still loved you but leave before you had the chance to say anything meaningful, and you'd never see him again. And that'd be that.

 

Instead, we get a DLC which is Wolf Hunt in everything but name - like, from the moment you enter the eluvian, it's just Fen'Harel Fen'Harel Fen'Harel oh hello Solas WAIT FEN'HAREL. He shows us that he loves us repeatedly in that last conversation, he calls us vhenan so many times, his voice almost breaks a couple of times - for all his flaws (god there are so damn many), he is still so, so in love with Lavellen. That much is clear.

 

What's even better though, is that this is almost definitely not the last time the Inquisitor will see him. The Inquisition, in whatever form, is plotting to track down Solas and knock some sense in that egg-head of his. No other organisation is dedicated to the cause - at least, not yet. And given the ending choices, there will be probably a chance where he'll be able to redeem himself, and it could be incredibly sweet and beautiful.

 

I expected we'd get the generic friend cutscene with one or two 'vhenans' in there.  From what I can tell we got new cutscene altogether.

If Cole is present for the game of Wicked Grace, he gets gently admonished by Varric for "talking to the face cards." But like everything else Cole says, his words here have a deeper meaning. He mentions that the king has a crown and a sword, and "his head didn't want either." He's talking about Alistair. He didn't want to be a Templar, but was sent away to train against his wishes - hence the sword. Later, the Fereldan Succession Crisis had him at least considered for the throne, even if the Warden didn't push him to take it - hence the crown. His head really didn't want either.

A thought on Solas' plans. Wondering what others think:

What if the world doesn't need to be destroyed to sunder the veil but rather it will be need to be destroyed in order to restore his people? This allows BioWare to sunder the veil, as they seem to want to do, but let us stop him from destroying the world, which can't happen because that's the end of the Dragon Age series.

 

Or he also speaks like he isn't 100% sure everyone is going to need to die. Perhaps he just expects "his people" to go destroying current Thedas after he releases them, or thinks that's a possibility?

I came in wanting to ask the thread the same thing, but you beat me to it.

 

I agree completely. A huge running theme in DAI is organizations gaining too much power, being corrupted from the inside, then power becoming its own master--the Seekers, the Templars, the Circles, etc. Then Trespasser teaches us that the "Elven gods" grew too big for their breeches, and grew too corrupt and power-mad. Then Solas tells us that both the Qunari and his people were able to infiltrate the Inquisition as spies (because such a large organization filled with so many people that spies can pass by mostly undetected), and I was like "NOPE!"

 

After all we learn about power and corruption this game, it just seems so... nonsensical to open ourselves up to more corruption.

Aw, now I feel bad for making Cole more human. =(

 

For my first playthrough, I didn't know what to do, but I reluctantly chose "human" because Cole had mentioned that Varric seemed to care about him and call him "kid," and Solas sees the spirit, "accepting and sad," and I didn't want Cole to be sad. As a Dalish, my character also felt that remembering and learning from the past is important. Cole's party banter where he reveals that he made himself a non-mage because he wanted to honor the real Cole, and Varric arguing that they should have Cole learn from his anger rather than Solas stressing that he should forget it, made her feel human was the way.

 

However, the order I hear comments this new playthrough and Cole's comments in this video makes me think that maybe it would be kinder to make him more spirit-like after all. It seems like Cole is happier with himself as a spirit (rather than resigned to it like being more human-like), and he wants someone to accept him as he is. It seems Rhys hurt Cole deeply when he found out he was a spirit and rejected him, and Cole likes that Solas (and possibly the Inquisitor) accepts his spirit self, where most people reject his spirit nature. 

 

Maybe I'll make him more spirit-like in my "perfect playthrough."

 

Apart from that, yes, I agree. Cole can read thoughts and emotions whether he's more spirit- or human-like, and he knows there's hope for Solas either way.

In my canon playthrough, I made Cole more human, and I didn't feel like cole was "resigned" come Trespasser. He's grown so much as a person, and with his relationship with Mariden, I feel he's gotten to be happy with himself. He still helps, he still reads thoughts and emotions. He's just different. For me, human COle is looking forward and not back. It's a reassurance that, although things change, the change needs not be feared. But, my inquisitor's optimistic that way. The choice to keep him a spirit is just as good. I don't think there's a right and wrong choice there.

I don't remember who, but I'm pretty sure it was on this thread, said that making Cole human made them think of optimism for the future, that it was moving forward instead of back toward the status quo. Up until then, I'd always agreed with Solas and kept him a spirit. But, what they said and how it relates to Solas' guilt about his own past convinced me to change in my cannon playthrough. I don't regret my choice, as much as I like Cole-Spirit.

Don't know if this is spoiler-tag worthy, but one of my favorite things about Fen'Harel in the main game is that he loved joking around, both with romanced and friendly Inq. For example, he would slightly approve when Inq would joke about riding in on a shining steed or how Cassandra threatens to execute everyone, then he would laugh or counter with a joke of his own. I would've loved some humorous snark between these two in the DLC, they both can handle it.
