How do you think we can go about combatting the DW? 

 

Disbanded or not, trying to convince or stop, we'll have to take strategic steps to deal with him. We know we should be wary of his spies, recruit ppl he won't know and try to act in a way he won't predict. What then? Considering his agents and power he displays in dlc.

 

I think we'll be needing a double agent for a start, and.. people who can nullify magic [Seekers].

Even someone who can nullify magic like a seeker or a templar - Solas can turn people to stone just by *thinking* about it. He doesn't need to touch or even look at them. I would say this power is partially because of Mythal, but because we see Solas do this same thing to Mythal at the end of main game (where Flemeth falls before the Eluvian) she kind of turns to stone when his eyes turn blue, so that leads me to think this crazy power is all him. If it was Mythal I'd say try and find a way to separate the two of them.

 

If you were going to use the Seekers or Templars, I would think you'd need an army of them, and a lot of them are going to die in the process of getting to Solas. 

 

I think we'd need to fight Solas in a place where his powers are naturally weakened. Maybe inside the Fade?

I'd say that it is very dangerous to think that doing nothing doesn't hurt. Inaction, is still to me a choice to be made, and usually a bad one favoring status quo, therefore not solving anything.

 

This is getting into general philosophy here, but that's sort of my point. You're not causing direct harm by inaction and will not bear the blame for anything. But you'll also never change anything. However, if you choose to take action, how many are you willing to harm before you stop? Everybody has their own answer and reasoning for that question, and I find those differences very interesting.

About how far my Lavellan is ready to go from moral view :

Pretty far, my Lavellan is all sweet and try to help everyone BUT she can also be ruthless when needed . I agree about the chargers i ALWAYS saves them, i know im letting more ppl die this way , but me and all my chars ( still cant make myselff to do evil char) put her friends before everything else. The chargers are my friends , they shed their blood for me , and im not gonna let them die, not if i can save them . Imagine what Lavellan that love Solas is ready to do to save him.

In her judgments my Lev never kill anyone, but i she let Solas kill the mages ( and was annoyed she cant do it herself), She told Leliana to kill her friend that betray us, cuz she saw her as treat.

So no there is no balck and white for my Lavellan ( or my other chars) its all grey .

 

Now ill go listen to Trespasser music and write this sad fanfic i have in my head , and cuz im gonna cry while writing it, ill be evil and share it with you so you can cry while reading it

So....I had a really nutty thought last night going to sleep......

 

.....Trespasser....Pantheon lore...Solas....spoilers...

Okay, so one of the final questions you can ask Solas before he deals with your hand is what he was going to do with the Evanuris if he is taking down the Veil.....and he replies "I had plans." This is some wild tin foil hat theory but.........I think whatever those plans were....well they still are.

 

I think Solas was.is going to release them. I know we have always talked about how he would never do that......but I think it truly fits now.

 

Solas said that he wants to be in the Fade when he collapses the Veil. That means he believes that he will survive the chaos in the fade....not the physical world where all the chaos and destruction happen. That means, in theory, the Evanuris would survive also and I'm pretty sure he doesn't to deal with them while he is trying to rebuild his world.

 

So, it seems like he would have let the Evanuris out somehow, they cross back into the physical world, Solas enters Fade, tears down Veil and kaboom. Physical world reborn and Evanuris have hopefully been killed off as well. If not killed, then shattered into weak fragments like Mythal which Solas probably felt would be easier to deal with.

 

This sadly also fits with his fear of dying alone. If this is the plan think about it.....he is going to be all alone when he does this. Cole even said the spirits are fleeing because they are afraid of the Veil breaking again. He wouldn't be alone technically with the Evanuris round. They may hate each other......but company is company.

 

Now here would be a real twist in it all. We have heard nothing but fairytales and Solas' opinion about the Evanuris. They have been locked away physically in the Fade for over 2000 years essentially in a form of torture. Think about how Cole reacted when physically entering the Fade. At least Cole had the Anchor helping secure him and friends to comfort him. So, anyway, I see two possible outcomes due to this 2000 torment.

 

A..) The most bat **** crazy group of mages terrorizes the world and you have to kill them/ Kind of boring.

 

B.) The Evanuris enter the physical world and view it like a Paradise. The fall in love with the physical world since there is no pain for them here and because of their time-out they regret what they did and want to be better. They start going around trying to fix world problems they hear about with their knowledge and abilities.....Blight......possesion....dealing with Titans......

 

And then words reaches them that Fen'Harel wants to destroy their new home.

 

That would be more interesting.

 

And a chance to hang out with June. Just sayin'.

You know what could be interesting from a storytelling point of view (as long as the inquisitor returns to the next game) If that, in their bid to redeem/save Solas, they continued to mirror Fen'harel's story and had to take more and more morally gray decisions. There is no good decision and the unintended consequences of your choices can be shocking. How long does someone keep the moral high ground when they also use and get others killed for the cause/quest? 

 

Heck, we've done it already. I'm thinking of Bull's quest here. To save the few (the Chargers), we look on as however many Qunari are on the dreadnaught (a hundred? more?) get blown to smithereens. Our hands are bloody already. We have killed, and will kill again before we are through, whatever choices we take in regard to Solas. It's interesting, at least to me. Both the parallels between the inquisitor and Solas, and realizing that you can't win this and stay morally unblemished. It's just not possible when the stakes are this high.

Oh My God this. This would be incredible. 

 

A thought on Solas' plans. Wondering what others think:

What if the world doesn't need to be destroyed to sunder the veil but rather it will be need to be destroyed in order to restore his people? This allows BioWare to sunder the veil, as they seem to want to do, but let us stop him from destroying the world, which can't happen because that's the end of the Dragon Age series.

 

Or he also speaks like he isn't 100% sure everyone is going to need to die. Perhaps he just expects "his people" to go destroying current Thedas after he releases them, or thinks that's a possibility?

Ah, but is it a recorded choice? We've all seen the low approval video, and that choice is not made there. Also, until it shows up in the Keep we won't know for sure.

We're too late to stop the first part of his plan (the sundering), leading to wonderful shenanigans as magic/spirits/gods run wild, but can stop him from destroying Thedas outright (and possibly persuade him to help against the newly released Evanuris?).

I'd love to see our second protag engaging in a spot of counter-infiltration - it would be difficult to implement gameplay wise though (only Elves in DW's Army) unless the 2nd protag was race-locked to Elf. Personally I'd have no problem with this because 1) Elves are awesome and 2) in a double-protag game, we'd get to be all the races as our Inquisitor anyway. But eh, I can imagine plenty of people hating the idea so it probably wouldn't happen. Magical disguise a la drow in the underdark in BG2?? (kidding, kind of).

 

I think in a 'stop Solas' campaign, efforts woud focus on weakening him, finding ways to lessen his power through ancient artifacts etc. Whereas a 'save Solas' pt would be more about finding ways to root Solas into this world, giving him connections that he can't pass off as being 'unreal'. A friend/romanced Inquisitor is almost there, but there needs to be more. Finding a way to bond the 'Dalish Father' with his 'Dalish Son' would be a good start

I have a Trev playthrough where he's more human and a Solasmancing pt where he's more spirit. Both work beautifully imo. In my Trev pt, he's so much more grounded and the stuff with Maryden is so cute. In my Lavellan playthrough, she's so damn pleased that he's followed Solas - so Solas isn't alone and is hopefully still being guided by Compassion. Also Krem/Maryden are pretty darn cute too.

Seeing as Bioware love giving us a 'possessed' companion each game, I can see an opportunity to have Valta come back as a DA4 companion. Female Dwarf, possessed, ancient power within? She ticks all the boxes! Make her a romance for all the 'where my dwarf loving at?' people and they've struck gold 

 

But I really hope she does come back in a big way. I really want some Titan vs Ancient Elves going on.

I'll admit I'm somewhat at a loss on how to reach a man that doesn't want to be found and has access to eluvian (and thus places like the crossroad that we can't reach at all). I think maybe her plan might be to start the ball rolling on changes that even he can't ignore. Tevinter gives us an opportunity for a slave revolt of the kind that shakes an Empire. Become the Dread Wolf of the Dragon Age. Draw his gaze away from his plan and to what you're doing, while on the side you have your own people trying to infiltrate his organization to gather information.

 

Solas in his current state power-wise can't be approached directly for a confrontation. So, the Inquisitor needs to find a way he doesn't expect so she can draw him into the open.

 

Lavellan has "changed everything" once for him. She will do it again. And again, however many times it takes to make him see this world has worth saving.

Well City Elf would actually make more sense, since it's largely CE servants and the like who seem to be joining his army, plus they are perhaps less inclined to suspicion and superstition when it comes to the Dread Wolf, because they aren't as immersed in Dalish culture.

This is just my headcanon as far as what my girl would do, but-

First, disband the Inquisition. Solas is too good at attacking large power structures, and we've already been burned once. Trim down staff to the barest of bare bones. Everyone who remains apart of the plan needs to be completely trustworthy. Most of the elves already in the Inquisition will probably need to be let go. That'll make some enemies, but hopefully most of them will just think we're shutting down anyway. 

 

Tevinter is a smart move forward. It is the culture closest to Arlathan, and they absorbed almost all of their magic tech from elves. Have Dorian see what he can find with his shiny new rank. Meanwhile, once word of elves leaving start to appear- visit a few camps. See if anything can be learned about the rumors going on. But don't recruit anyone. With the exception of someone who can be 100% vouched for [like Merrill], they can't be trusted. 

 

Reach out to powerful people who don't want to have their world exploded. Morrigan for certain- she's an expert on elven culture and not an elf herself. We also know that she's fiercely protective of her son, and will not support anything that could potentially put him in danger. Yara probably wouldn't give her all of the info she has, but Morrigan is definitely worth setting off to investigate on her own.

 

Also send a team to the temple of Mythal, hunt down any of the remaining ancient elves. If we can actually manage to get ahold of one- interrogate them, and don't let them out of your sight. 

 

Then call some favors. Orlais and Fereldan want the Inquisition disbanded? Sure! But, we're going to need some money in exchange for surrendering our holdings. To cover severance payments, and whatever else we want to make up. However, we use a vast majority of that money to give to elves in difficult situations. These elves are going to be prime targets to want to follow the Dread Wolf. Hell, make that your whole cover story. You're using your former position to help elves. 

 

Hopefully, at this point one plan will have had some results. Rumors, something. If all else fails? See if Solas can ever be baited. Look up potential methods of trapping someone with strong magical powers through use of seekers, or even the spirits. But don't trust spirits too much, as there's a good chance they'll feed information back to Solas.

 

And while she doesn't want to kill him- figure out as much as can be found about how the evanuris killed Mythal.

Lavellan's vhenan had told the guardians that he was expecting visitors. It sure would have been awkward if one of his goons had killed the inquisitor.

Like, I get that he wanted her to solve the Qunari threat on her own, because autonomy is his jam. But adding indiscriminate killbots to the mix is just making it more difficult for no reason, haha.

the dreadnought. What its name was, how big the crew was, etc. Touching on that theme of how easy it is to do horrible things to "them" for the sake of "us". The People are Solas' Chargers.

But mainly,

T-T that last scene was hard, in a good way. His stubbornness. The way he says he isn't a monster one breath after explaining how he'll ("most likely") destroy the world. He keeps hammering on how getting to know the inquisitor made it harder to contemplate his mission, so secretly I'm hoping that will turn into second thoughts at some point? Who knows, maybe his followers have enough momentum that he can't even turn the ship around anymore. *sigh*

The whole time I was bouncing between "is that a seed of doubt I hear?" and "I feel like I'm in an ant farm, looking up through the glass." I had big expectations for this DLC, but I wasn't prepared for how delicately they'd capture that confusion and dread. Solas is so alien, so palpably ancient, I could barely stand it.

Out of all the DLCs and base games, Trespasser may be my favorite.

YES! Aside from Tevinter being filled with Dorian and Maeveris! I do agree.  I think it would actually a serious problem if Tevinter were allowed to collapse -- though I think that's where it's heading.  I think a lot of what you do in the next game is helping Dorian try to guide Tevinter to a better and more stable government.  Or just completely dismantling it.
