I liked Mass Effect but it took a little while to really get into as well. I was hooked on the series by Mass Effect 2 though and by 3 I was just as invested as I am in Dragon Age. 

 

I think the tone of Mass Effect is more serious than Dragon Age and it has to do with the writers I think.

When it comes to post-Trespasser strategies, I think that

the inquisitor kept too many people in their inner circle, even in the smallest disband ending. If I was fighting a guy who created the Veil and can manifest in dreams, anyone in my organization who's had "visions from the Maker" is getting the boot. Especially if said person conveniently dropped investigation of Solas until he was safely out of reach, and especially especially if their politics are eerily close to Solas'.

 

No need to infiltrate the organization if their spymaster is already (perhaps unknowingly) an agent of Fen'Harel.

I was thinking about the time during the Thresspasser. He knew the Anchor was getting worse, but he just waited too much time. He wanted to make a dramatic entrance at the end and that's why half of her arm is missing now instead of just the hand.

But still, the loss of all the abilities associated with Anchor. This is terrible.

Personal headcanon after all that fuss:

 

For a time, Lavellan returns to her clan, which now lives in the city of Wycome along with a coalition of human merchants and the city elves, in supposed harmony. As First to her Keeper, it would have been her role eventually to keep the ancient knowledge: Knowing the truth, or something far closer to it than the Dalish once did, she does the only thing she feels it right. She tells it. To the Keeper, to her clan, to all the city elves. She grants them this knowledge carefully, but for them to do with as they see fit, hoping to turn potential recruits away from Solas or the Qunari.  

 

Unlike Solas, Lavellan does not believe in hiding the truth: And being the Keeper's first, and a hero of Thedas, she is in a far better position to spread it than he was.

Sadly, Clan Lavellan is dead in my world state.

 

I imagine that after disbanding the Inquisition, my Lavellan asked Cillian for directions to the Arcane Warrior shrine he found and then trained herself out there to figure out how to summon an arm instead of a sword. Cause that's a pretty awesome image in my head. Walks into ancient temple no arm. Walks out a couple months later with a gold, spectral arm.

 

Then after that exploring ruins, plans for Tevinter and teaching any Dalish who will listen.

 

But really, spirit arm equals win.

My Lavellan's also going to warn the elves.  Starting with her clan, who are the most likely to believe her warnings.  But she's an artificer, so I went for multiple arms: crossbow, electric gauntlet, and interchangeable prosthetic hooks.  And may have written fanfiction.  AND read some about real-life prosthetics.  I think I've hit headcanon rock bottom   But that's fine, I have no dignity.

It looks qunari since there are qunari statues all over the place, but my guess is that it was once an old elven ruin in northern Thedas (nearer qunari lands), and they repurposed it.  The qunari would have no qualms about building on top of the bones of other civilizations.  It's just a building to them.

I had to share my grief. Seriously? I really thought there was more hope than that. They let him be the bad guy after all?? After all that? 

 

I thought... Well, so much of it was what I expected, but I never thought he actually intended to be the villain.   

 

And... he actually left me for good! 

 

Too much sadness. 

 

 

As expected: not satisfied; more despondent than intrigued. My boyfriend will be the Big Bad, and I'll be an NPC in the next game.

LOL, I was kinder to my Lavellan.  I headcanoned that Solas sealed the first eluvian so none of the rest of the party could get through, then unsealed it when he left.  Cass, Dorian, and Bull found her unconscious in front of the eluvian from the shock of losing the Anchor.  They were unable to follow Solas, so they carried her back through the Crossroads.

 

Though I feel bad for Dorian in that scenario.  Imagine his panic at not being able to help or even reach his dearest friend when she confronts the Dread Wolf.

 

This is basically my headcanon except swap in Cole instead of Bull.

They gave us a chance to try and redeem him.  And I don't think they've actually said that quizzy will be an NPC.  I know the trend has been a new PC with every game, but Weekes is at the helm now, and BioWare mentioned being intrigued by the idea of multiple playable characters.

I'm still deciding how to headcanon the arm because well, dual-wield assassins who can't readily dual wield anymore. She has been trained in daggers since she was...13...this may be a huge change. By Trespasser she's around 33.

 

So maybe Dagna can come to her rescue.

So, in Trespasser Cole had some interesting things to say, which I am only now really processing. He alludes to Solas leaving a scar on his face when he removed his own vallaslin for example. He also says somethings like "he didn't want a body, but she asked him to come" and "he wanted to give wisdom not orders." These things in conjunction with a vanilla game banter where Solas thanks Cole for reminding him that he IS NOT A SPIRIT makes me think that SOLAS IS A SPIRIT...or rather was.

 

We are encouraged to make judgments in this game about spirits...if they are people, if Cole should be more spirit like or human, if we should save Wisdom or kill Pride...I'm afraid in the end we'll have to either let the spirit that is Solas return to the fade or kill the demon he becomes when he does his evil thing. He'll even tell Lavellan that he doesn not want her to see what he becomes. I suppose one of those horribly sad endings would technically be closure for Lavellan (Weekes says we'll get closure/a resolution as long as they make another game), but it sounds like there won't be any possible "happy" ending...unless Lavellan actually does possess a "rare and marvelous spirit." Mass Effect was all about synthetics vs organics and now Dragon Age is all about mortals vs spirits (or non mages vs mages). Bioware likes to stick with similar overarching themes it seems. What do you all think?

I hope so! On both counts. I was kinda surprised I didn't have more of a chance to address him as a love interest, after everything. I did pick the "try to change his heart" option, which... I guess is now recorded in the Keep? It was weird not having an endgame save. LOL I just can't imagine how we would get to do that if the next PC is new like they've always said. I'll cling to the hope that they'll shake it up. But then, I feel like my  hope for the DLC just got my expectations up too high. 

 

Time for a margarita and some Cullenmance, I guess. :shaky gulp:

To be fair, I really didn't enjoy ME1 at all. I saw my sister play it and aside from thinking the turians looked amazing (seeing Nihlis for the first time, UNGH!), I thought it was a pretty daft game. But then ME2 came along and I watched my partner play it, and I fell in love. xD

 

I still don't really like ME1 and any thoughts of doing a full trilogy run is dampened by the idea of running through ME1 again, but I love the series as a whole.

My Inquisitor's pretty screwed too.  She's been using bows since she was 10, and she's probably 26-ish by Trespasser.  I mean, she didn't lose her dominant hand like a certain GoT character, but still.  She basically has to relearn how to fight, how to craft, how to get out of bed and dress herself...all those things she took for granted.  IRL, learning to use a prosthetic can take months of physical therapy, and she has multiple different ones.

 

I don't want to downplay the significance of losing a limb like that, but at the same time I think Dagna can whip up some pretty cool things for us.  So while it won't be easy, I think quizzy can get a lot of functionality back.  It'll just be different.  It also looks to me like quizzy still has her elbow, so at least the prosthetic won't have to articulate at the elbow AND the hand.

I think that it's quite possible actually. I wonder if the bittersweet resolution might not resemble Wisdom's. It dies as the mages did too much harm to it for it to survive as Wisdom anymore. But, Solas says a similar spirit might one day reform where Wisdom once lived. The same yet not the same. The Avvar have the same belief in the gods, with different spirits taking the same name. What about Solas dying, with a promise that his spirit will one day reform and maybe this time his destiny will be better, less full of sadness and despair.

 

An ending like that one would emotionally destroy me, I think. Argh... why do I make myself sad like this?
