I didn't see it that way either until the tweet came out . The tweet says, "He removed the Anchor. Your hand was too far gone at that point to save, though." So I kinda assume that means it disintegrated? I can't imagine they'd have time to amputate.

 Amen, I love my Dorianmance too. I did love how good the dialogue played out for a friendship with Dorian in this DLC, though. It's almost like the game realized how much important his character particularly is to me. The communication crystal? So cool.

I thought maybe I would do a Dorian romance but the friendship thing was just too sweet that I'm not sure. Plus, Cassandra just drew me even more.

Exactly. Many of the stories about Fen'Harel are misconceived. But now he will live up to the name and become the Dread Wolf of legend to the modern world, if his plans materialize. He is using his god-like powers to impose his own will on the masses even though he claims to be completely for the free-will/autonomy of others. I don't think that literally everyone is going to die but, as he said, there will be chaos. And casualties will be a by-product of this chaos. Those who are left will lose their way of life, and the world as they knew it.

To be fair, I really didn't enjoy ME1 at all. I saw my sister play it and aside from thinking the turians looked amazing (seeing Nihlis for the first time, UNGH!), I thought it was a pretty daft game. But then ME2 came along and I watched my partner play it, and I fell in love. xD

 

I still don't really like ME1 and any thoughts of doing a full trilogy run is dampened by the idea of running through ME1 again, but I love the series as a whole.

I think ME1 is a 50/50 for me. I love the story but I find some of the gameplay mechanics to be awkward. I disliked playing as an Infiltrator because sniping was a mess but enjoyed it so much in 2 + 3 that it turned out to be my favorite class overall.

Dorian-Lavellan BFF headcanon canon.

 

Dorian is making a very strong push for bestest bromance ever.  And Garrus had 3 games to earn that crown.

 

Here's what I think is so very well done about Dorian's friendship: sometimes, BioWare games seem to "expect" that the PC will befriend particular characters: Garrus, Varric, and Liara come to mind.  And while that's fine if you like those characters, it's annoying as f*** if you don't.  And IMO the expectation of a character being likeable leads to the game telling you that you're besties rather than showing you.

 

But DA:I doesn't push you toward befriending any particular character.  And if you do befriend him, Dorian embodies the love that he has for the Inquisitor in everything he does.  His dialogue, his actions, his facial expressions...even his teasing is deeply affectionate.  And while the game does have him say repeatedly that quizzy is his dearest friend, the warmth that Ramon Tikaram imparts to those lines makes me really believe it.

I believe this was more to answer the question of whether or not he is a combination of two people. [A popular theory was that Solas was Fen'Harel and Felassan combined together.] He could still be whatever Mythal originally was, which allowed her to survive her murder.

Sooo silly question. I finished the DLC and the final final bit doesn't seem to save. Meaning, I step through the Eluvian and talk to Solas and make all my decisions through a series of cut scenes and can never save? I really want to record those decisions for the next game but... They might be recorded in Keep.  But the last time you save in-game is right before talking to Solas.

Since I can't not keep Clan Lavellan alive, I really do wonder how Lavellan ever hopes to explain all of these relevations to them.

 

"So... erm, the vallaslin are indeed slave markings from the old empire and the Creators are false Gods. I found out they were really just powerful elven mages who enslaved our people after a war.

 

The Dread Wolf was the one who freed us from slavery, but after Mythal was murdered (sort of, it's complicated) he created the Veil that doomed our empire and lost us our immortality. He's now working to reverse that, but that probably means destroying this world and all of us in the process... so I'm now working to stop him as best I can.

 

Also, I might have been playing tonsil tango with him at one point.

GAH.  Botched opportunity there for the cutscene team.   Would have been kind of amazing to see her reach out for him as he walked away, and had her arm slowly disintegrate into floating particles that trailed after, but never quite reached him...

Dorian and Sera sort of snuck up on me as characters, it took me a couple playthroughs to realise how much I really enjoyed them and figure out how to maximise their friendship. I can't now not run an Inquisitor that doesn't regard Dorian and Sera as if they were siblings (or feel closer to them than their own siblings), because I really love how we can see how deep their bond with each other is, kind of like Varric and Hawke's.

 

Dorian in particular is one reason I'm actually psyched now about heading to Tevinter for DA4, because along with Mae, I totally want to join the Lucerni.

Every Solas conversation in the game has such a different context now, it's crazy! I just realized something else that's really sad.Solas was probably being so forceful about Cole becoming a spirit because it meant he would survive once he took down the veil. If Cole turned into a human, that's just another life added to the kill count if Solas succeeds....he was trying to save him

This would change everything, the whole world and that is something to fear... Remember what Morrigan said?

Change is coming to the world. Many fear change and will fight it with every fiber of their being. But sometimes, change is what they need the most. Sometimes, change is what sets them free.

Somehow this makes me hopeful.

I know that Morrigan doesn't know everything, but maybe it means that it won't be that bad. That it doesn't have to be.

I cried. Legitimately cried with all the "BFFs here's my cell" dialogue. I'm a 27 year old adult.   

I fought really hard to keep my expectations for Solas down just so I wasn't bummed if it wasn't everything I wanted. Dorian's friendship I hoped they'd do a good job and they delivered.

Yeahhh I'm in the same boat. Can't touch it yet. It's funny how I'm able to completely separate my Inquisitors exactly as if they're living in alternative universes. I love them both but Lavellan will always be my girl.

Thinking about possible future interactions with Solas

If he's ever going to be a boss fight, how the heck is that going to work? The guy is powerful to a crazy extent. He can turn someone into stone in a second with seemingly no effort whatsoever. HE DISCONNECTED THE FRIGGING WORLD FROM THE FRIGGING FADE. Likely with a lot of help of some sort but it's been made clear that the Dread Wolf is no slouch when it comes to power.

 

Maybe he'd be weakened somehow before we had to fight him, if we ever did. Also, why does the idea of a Solas boss fight appeal to me so much? I guess part of me wants to see him go at it and get all ruthless on us. Something about that side of him is so strangely appealing.

Yuuuup. I really like that option - I quite like the "Yes. Ironically" for how it ends, but apparent flurry of emotions that run through him after an angry response is veeeery palpable. 

 

It quite fits my Lavellan as well - all this time she worked on trying to make Solas trust her and open up, yet at the end he failed to do so. So it's not even the fact that he lied to her or didn't tell her the truth that angered her - he broke her trust by not trusting her enough and assuming her reaction for her.

 

This option also likely nails the fundamental problem with Solas: something in the past broke him too much for him to trust people, no matter how much he may want it. I think it lies at the core of his control issues and his determination to realize his plan, but also is what may eventually redeem him: he'd have to re-learn how to trust people.
