Looking at number 2 here in this player's choice options.  Did I miss a conversation option in the DLC? I don't remember being asked a question in my party about the romance where only Cole approved? What am I missing?

So.....woke up today and started having these thoughts.....

I'm headed for real headcanon hell.

 

I made a comment yesterday about how after disbanding the Inquisition and making initial plans for the hunt for Solas part 2 that my Lavellan would have gone up to Cillian and asked him for directions to the Arcane Warrior shrine he found in the wilderness to train and figure out how to summon a spirit arm. I then realized that logically speaking no one would have thought it wise for Lavellan to travel way out into the wilderness and spend who knows how long in a forgotten shrine in the middle of no where. Especially this Cillian guy who would have shown her the way. I mean...I can just picture them standing at the door and Lavellan saying "Okay, you can go back now" and Cillian saying "Umm, no thank you. If something happens to you the Divine will put my head on a pike and display it for everyone to see." (My Divine is crazy Leliana who likes my Quizzy). To which it only makes sense that my "I don't want to see people get hurt" quizzy would have replied "Your right, Cillian, you should stay."

 

It then dawned on me that I sent my heartbroken, lonely "f****ck I gotta save the world from my immortal, retardly powerful ex-boyfriend" Lavellan to an ancient elven shrine with a male elf who she has probably been friends with for years at this point given that they are both arcane warriors and maybe have trained together with Commander Helene. Said male elf is also probably pretty good looking also just based on what appears to be the law of "Elves who find themselves near world changing individuals in Thedas tend to be freaking hot".

 

WTF kind of headcanon misery did I just run into. I mean....I don't know if I'm suppose to feel bad for my Lavellan....Solas....or Cillian at this point. I think Cillian because I'm pretty sure this is either rebound or friendzone territory......

 

....and some strange part of me wants to accept this these thoughts of mine. For the drama.

 

....I just want my Lavellan to be happy, but as a player I feel like I'm betraying Solas.......

Can you just imagine if that's the tipping point? It would mean you have to have made the choice back in DAO to kill Leliana, and just how many did that for reals?

 

Do you suppose Solas's line of questioning the Inquisitor about if the anchor changed them was poking to see if maybe the Inquisitor is a Cole-ish spirit too? Eh. maybe not. I need more coffee for that to make sense in my head, but people had suggested that maybe the Inquisitor is actually a spirit taken form, so it's not entirely out of bounds.

If you killed Leliana in DAO then her epilouge reveals that she was a Fade spirit for the last 10 years.  Apparently.  Yet to find the slides myself.  And if this is true if - as Leliana says in DA2 - it wasn't her time to die then IS she being lead by some higher power?  Was she like Cole after being killed, a spirit who thought it was Leliana?

An interesting thing to add to this that I'm sure fits with it somehow is this....

 

In Hushed Whispers you find notes saying that Leliana is extremely resistant to the Blight. more so than anyone else they have come across. So much so that don't they use her flesh to patch up darkspawn Felix?

 

When I read that waaaaay back it really made me wonder what the deal is with that. Because I had Cassandra in the future as well and she was more tainted than Leliana and I was all like "Well, that doesn't make sense. They're both super faithful and all that jazz...what's giving Leliana the edge?"

.........you know when I got the slides about Cullen going off and building a rehab/retirement place for templars I shed a tear of happiness for the guy.

 

That ending though.....is seriously more depressing to me than the entire Solavellan romance. No joke. Cullen does not deserve that. Of all people.

The base game takes place over about a year or so, give or take. It begins in 9.41 and end sin 9.42 Dragon. Trespasser begins two years later.

So, he has only been truly awake a year before he came to you, starting 9.40 (the events of The Masked Empire also take place in 9.40), the Conclave and Breach happen in 9.41, and you take about one year to get it all fixed and defeat Corypheus.

 

By the end of Trespasser he has been awake about four years.

Um... mine is nowhere near Sera' camp. In fact, she's 98% in the Solas camp vs. the Sera camp, stopping only at the "Dalish are stupid" part Solas feels (although Sera feels that too) and the "destroy the world to restore our people's glory" part. Otherwise, she'd be on board.

 

In a way, I think she and Solas are two sides of the same coin. While he loves spirits and the Fade and would stay with them forever if he felt he could, she loves her clan and the forests and would stay with them forever if she felt she could, but both leave to help their people. While they both love elves, and want to help the elven people and restore the past, they go about it indifferent ways. He feels he can do more good by removing the Veil to restore the elves' world, she feels she can do more good by using her influence as the Herald of Andraste and the resources of the Inquisition to change humans' religious, social, and political attitudes towards elves (and mages!) to make their lives better in this world. 

 

The only way she and Solas differ now is on removing the Veil, and now all her limited resources go into stopping him.

 

And before you think me racist or heartless, her time in the Inquisition has taught her to value and care about non-elves too (her best friends are a Tevinter magister, a surface dwarf, a humanized Fade spirit who's in love with a human bard, an Andrastian Seeker, and a former Templar for crying out loud, and she supports them doing their thing even if she doesn't fully agree with or care about it), and she's protecting this world to protect them as much as, or even more than her people... probably more than her people.

 

Even if she told her clan the Dread Wolf's plans and they said, "Hey, that sounds great! Where can I sign up?!" she'd still try to stop him, because ultimately she doesn't want to make the world a hell for everyone else to make it a heaven for her own people, however much she loves them.

I wasn't going to say anything of the sort.  And to clarify, my Lavellan's in the Sera camp when it comes to people.  She doesn't share Sera's weird internalized racism (though Sera does work that out to some extent) or her dislike of the past and the Dalish.  My Lavellan still considers herself Dalish, still considers her clan to be her family, and still values elven history.  She just doesn't think of it in terms of "her people" and "other people."  At this point, she thinks everyone would benefit from knowing the truth about what happened, and what Solas's plans are for them.

Well, as of now I've only played through Trespasser once on my first (canon) quiz Lavellan, who romanced Solas. I honestly don't think I can bring myself to play through it again just yet because I wasn't expecting the emotional gut punch of it really being over. It's just, so final. So many threads are tied up, so many friends move on, and with Solas and the Mark and losing the hand and all those revelations... Trespasser was like a whole new game, and there was no going back. No more Skyhold. No more innocence. Nothing can ever be the same. I can never ever play DAI again without thinking of this final chapter and feeling incredibly sad, knowing what is to come. 

 

1. Disbanded. It's over. Lavellan never believed in the Chantry, was a reluctant leader, and agrees with Solas when it comes to the dangers of corruption within organizations. I think it will honestly be a relief to her to lose the pressure of being in the public eye and dealing out moral judgments. Enough of that.

 

2. Hell yes, I chose the romance option. Didn't even have Cole with me, so everyone just frowned and glared lol. I stealthed my rogue Lavellan and basically just ran full speed past all the Qunari enemies, leaving my companions to fight/catch up because I was like SolasSolasSolasSolasbabyImmasaveyou all the way to the last eluvian. I'm not ashamed.

 

3. No. After Solas drops the line about letting our world (likely) "burn in the raw chaos" after the Veil's fall I felt completely betrayed and horrible. I still think of killing him as the absolute last option imaginable though, so I figured I have to at least try to save him. He's not beyond saving just yet. But damn it, Solas. DAMN IT. 

 

4. I didn't bother asking to join him. If he'd like to join me in non-crazy land where we assemble a thinktank to discuss rational solutions that do not involve genocide to the whole Veil problem, he's welcome to show up. He's also welcome to admit he wants Lavellan to help him cope with his longstanding unhealthy levels of personal guilt by regularly tying him up and giving him a good spanking. (Iron Bull greatly approves.) UNFORTUNATELY MAKING HIM THAT OFFER WASN'T ON THE DIALOGUE WHEEL.

It happens when you find Viddasala is planning on killing Solas and you start a race to beat her to him, after she tells Inqi he is an agent of Fen'Harel, the one who gave Corypheus the orb, etc., you get several dialogue options, one of them has a heart icon, she says something along the lines of "so Solas was trying to help us against the Qunari all along, I knew he had a reason to leave, we got you save him". It's kind of innocent and sweet and I couldn't bring myself not to pick it since it feels like she searches for excuses for him because of how much she loves him. This comment makes everyone in your party disapprove (except Cole) and I think Cole greatly approves, which is.. sweet.. And kind of makes you feel hopeful, that he can be saved. Cole does have a lot of insights after all.

I ran to the Eluvians as well, and I'm a mage, just fade stepped everywhere with a sense of urgency. I was on nightmare mode as well so every time we passed through another Eluvian and saw more Qunari I got frustrated because I was running out of potions and didn't want my Lavellan to lose consciousness when Solas is in peril, it was actually pretty wonderful. And the whole new anchor mechanics? Awesome. It was annoying when I forgot to discharge but it's like the scene post-Haven-pre-Skyhold in which you walked in the snow, it was annoying because you were so slow but it emulated perfectly the Inqi's state, they found the sweet spot of how much time you need to deal with that menace in both times, they really outdone themselves to be honest

I wonder if it will play out like some big game of chess. It would be incredible to play a game where you must outsmart the Dread Wolf, and in doing so work towards either showing him that the world has its merits or weaken him enough for a massive confrontation. But if it does come down to just a slug fest with Solas in the end that'd be disappointing. He'd have to be seriously reduced in his power to be on a level where anyone but another "god" could realistically fight him. And really, I still would rather see him decide for himself that he wants to give up the plan and do so of his own choosing. You can sway him one way or another, but he has to be the one to find meaning in what's going on around him if there's going to be real redemption there.

Agreed, since I'm out of likes.  BioWare isn't always the best about merging gameplay and story, but the Anchor was pitch perfect.  Especially since I'd gotten used to relying on the Anchor-based abilities (Aegis, Mark), and now it was actively turning against me.

In light of all the feels posts a few pages back about how the game affects us in real life, I have a question. At what point do game developers become morally obliged to consider the mental wellbeing of their players? Games are getting more and more in depth and realistic (both in graphics and in character behaviour). As a medium they are unique in the way they can make someone feel personally involved in the story, more than any other form of storytelling.

I know that I've been in a complete stinker of a mood these past three days. If it were only related to Solas I would probably be ok (it would be that bittersweet, hurts so good kind of thing) but it's actually the let down I feel over Cole that is bothering me the most. Since that's a let down rather than a deliberate action on the devs part (as far as I know) it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it's not at all enjoyable. I know that for some people they will be feeling the same way over Solas. If games continue down this path and become even better at manipulating peoples mood and emotions, when do they need to be like 'guys, this might actually hurt people?' on the darker outcomes? Do you think they think about stuff like that already?
