Well, in case of elven Quizzy, no matter how approved prior to Skyhold, this is the first time he officially recognizes them as kin, calling them 'lethallin' when they leave to speak in private.

 

It may not 'just' be that people flock around in one common cause, it may be WHOM they flock around - Inquisitor is the catalyst of change and bringer of hope. He/she affects everyone around, on a profound level - as Justinia in the Fade says, Inquistor's steps "can move mountains" both in real world and the Fade. I think this is what makes approved Inquisitor so "real" in Solas' eyes - the sheer force of personality that, through actions or attitude, spills around, affecting and changing the world.

 

I  all goes back to my musing whether Inquisitor is some form of soul that existed in abundance in pre-Veil time and that Solas never expected anyone like it to manifest and thrive in Thedas. Well.. it turns out that this is pretty much exactly the case.

 

In other words: Solas just stumbled upon a unicorn Which makes me think that this scene from "The Last Unicorn" may be what he's kiiiiiinda going through, internally:

Meh. Characters being disliked never stopped BioWare from using them. Leliana, Morrigan, and Anders always had plenty of detractors, and they played very prominent roles. Solas can just keep rocking on with his bad self.

I mentioned this when we were all in countdown mode for Trespasser, but for Tiger Festival I plugged in one of my "Perfect" world states, wherein everyone lives and Isabella is never recruited. Reading your predicament reminds me of the post I made. While my Lavellan is absolutely devoted to Solas, the ending does put her in an interesting position...

As a Comtesse in Kirkwall. I can imagine her using Leliana's contacts and Josephine's connections to keep up the search for Solas and provide her candidates for the somebody-Solas-doesn't-know. The Calamity 5 (Not-Inquisiton) meet to exchange info and practice their set in the basement on the rare occasion that the Divine can extract herself from her duties, but that isn't that often. So when Tiger isn't dealing with those things, she has a big empty house and a whole lot of nothing else to do. Many long, lonely nights of staring into the fireplace, thinking about her Dread Wolf follow. Eventually, she goes looking for some good to do in the city to keep herself occupied. Viscount Varric, knowing her situation, naturally offers some suggestions. And so, what happens when she inevitably runs into a broody, glowy elf with a big sword and a mission of his own?

One who also has intense eyes, an amazing voice and is completely available?

Oh dear.

Well, on the bright side, she may have found somebody Solas doesn't know.

 

I've had this story in my head since I played Trespasser. It's only a second draft, but if I don't get it out of my system I'll never get my accounting paper written that's due tonight.

He knew something was different as he approached his old home. It was still as quiet as he remembered but there was a strange magical presence inside. He slipped around the back to the courtyard and found the once barren ground was alive with herbs, flowers and trees. He couldn't help the smile that lifted the corner of his mouth. Merrill must have done it. Despite their rough beginning and the anger he showed her, she stayed true to herself. Something he never expected. He hated to admit he admired her for it.

 

Climbing the trellis he slipped through an open window on the second floor and found the room had been transformed. No longer was it filled with empty crates and discarded or broken items, it was now a small study. The fire in the fireplace lit the room in a soft glow of orange. He warmed his hands a moment and contemplated leaving, but he was too curious to leave just yet. Who could be brave enough to live here? He would look around some more, if nothing else he could slip away unseen, he knew every inch of this house.

 

Each room he found held treasures from all over the world. One was even centered around a golden nug, and other nug related items. It was odd, but also kind of cute. Each room had its own theme. He hesitated outside what was once his own bedroom, he'd left a few things behind, and wondered where they might be. He opened the door to see everything was nearly the same as when he left. The only obvious changes were clean window coverings, clean bed linens and the cobwebs and dust was gone.

 

He heard the sound of someone stirring the fire in the fireplace in the sitting room downstairs and he crept down the stairs. He wanted to see who was brave enough to live in this house. Despite Hawke's help there were still the occasional demons that showed themselves while he stayed here. It was why he was able to hang onto it for so long. No one was brave enough to want to claim it.

 

The knock on the front door stopped him in his tracks and the soft footfalls of bare feet on the stone sent him back up the stairs and into the shadows to watch. A soft blue glow of magical light preceded the slight feminine frame that emerged from the room. He bit back a hiss at the thought of a mage in his home but instead of disdain he felt something different. Her blond white hair fell in soft waves down her back. It was long enough that it almost trailed the floor as she walked. The sides were pulled back behind long slender pointed ears.

 

"Who's there?" she asked.

 

"It's me, Stormy." He knew the voice. An old friend. One he hadn't heard from since he'd received news of Hawke's death in Adamant. Their friend had sacrificed himself to save Varric, the Inquisitor and Alastair in the Fade.

 

She opened the door. "It's a bit late for a social visit Varric and it's not Wicked Grace night is anything wrong? Is there any news?" The last question had a pleading hopeful sound as well as an underlying anguish to it.

 

"Sorry, no not that. **** Stormy, you can't sit in here and brood forever! When is the last time you ate something? You can't keep doing this to yourself. Chuckles chose his path and he's got all the time in the world to set his plan in motion. Hell he may even wait until we are all gone before making his move." She nodded at him but didn't answer. She wiped at her cheeks with her right hand and then turned to head back to the room. He felt a stab of pity for her when he saw the pinned sleeve of her gown on her left arm.

 

"So why are you here Varric?" she asked him.

 

"An old friend of mine was seen in town earlier and last report was he was heading this way. I uh, well you see... I never was able to find him after the Hawke incident, and so he probably doesn't know you own this place yet."

 

So that was why his home was remodeled, but why not his old room?

 

"Yes, I knew that already." she said.

 

"How? I just found out and rushed over."

 

"Because he's upstairs right now." she said. He wanted to both laugh and run. She knew he was here the whole time? How? Then her gaze lifted to his position and if he hadn't of been in the shadows their eyes would have locked. "I've got a few bottles of Aggegio Pavali if you’d like to join us Fenris."

 

Varric started laughing. "Don't ever change Stormy."

 

He had little choice but to show himself. "How did you know?"

 

"Please, I felt you the moment you entered the garden. Do you know how many wards you triggered before you reached the window upstairs?

 

Varric laughed again. "You should see your face my friend." The girl smirked at him and he couldn't help but smile back. He'd been careless. He'd thought he felt the first ward, but ignored it.

 

"The wine, a friend and a fire sounds pretty good right now. It's getting colder outside." he walked down the stairs and Varric clapped him on the shoulder. "Fenris this is Cara Renan Lavellan. Formally known as The Herald of Andraste, The Inquisitor, Vanquisher of the Rebel Mages, Savior of Ferelden, Savior of Orlais, Vanquisher of Corypheus, and well I guess Savior of Thedas for sealing the Breach as well as stopping the Qunari from taking over the world. Oh and Comtess on top of it all."

 

"Gee Varric, did you leave anything out this time? I swear my title gets longer each time you introduce me." He felt the corner of his mouth lift. She held out her hand "Just Cara is fine. I'm not much of an active force in politics anymore."

 

He was dumbfounded. This tiny elf was the Herald? The hero that saved the world?

 

Varric's laughter brought him out of his thoughts. "Half of what I've heard can't be true. You aren't at all what I expected." He said. He shook her hand and felt a jolt at her touch.

 

She laughed a light happy sound of a laugh that lifted his spirits. "Yeah I get that a lot. Hell my title is taller than I am! Add the missing limb and they practically think all of it was made up."

 

"Sorry about the house Broody. I still have my suite at the Hanged Man. You can call it home for as long as you like. I own the place now. It's the least I can do for an old friend." Varric told him.

 

"His room is still as he left it here. I couldn't figure out what to do with your stuff so it's all just as you left it." she said.

 

"You left his room alone?" Varric asked.

 

She shrugged. "I was cleaning it when I realized whose stuff was there. Sorry, I read your book the one about Shartan. It was interesting to learn more about him. I put it back though."

 

"I'm glad someone read it, I still only read enough to send or read Varric’s notes, when I get them.

 

"Oh! I could teach you!" She sounded excited and then blushed under his gaze and bit her lower lip as she turned away. "We were going to have wine weren't we? Varric? Care for some?"

 

"Actually I just remembered I have some letters I've been ignoring. Choir-boy sends me something at least once a month, I should probably find out what he wants. I'll just let myself out." The dwarf was up to something, he had that look in his eye like he was scheming again.

 

"Uh, ah, ok, then I'll see you Friday? Wicked Grace right?" she asked.

 

"Yep, game night at the Hanged man. Even Merrill will be there." He said. "Fenris, join us unless you aren't planning on staying around."

 

"Merrill wrote me, I'm looking forward to seeing her again. I'm sure she'd like to see you again Fenris, she's missed you." she said.

 

"I wasn't planning on it, but I might stick around for a few days." He found himself saying. Varric grinned at him and he felt like he's just walked into some plot of his. Then he headed for the door.

 

The door clicked behind Varric and she snapped her fingers. Magical energy filled the air and flowed out through the house.

 

"Sorry, just sealing the house. You can get out without trouble, but nothing else can come in. I guess I forgot to earlier, or you wouldn't have gotten in." She handed him a glass of wine and then reached for her own and sat on the love seat in front of the fire.

 

"I'm glad you forgot." He said as he sat next to her.  She smiled at him and his breath caught in his throat.

 

"So am I.”

I felt (..feel) guilty for that reason although as you say rationally speaking in the back of my head I know it's not bad to seize whatever works to keep you treading water. it melded yes, for example in a way it was an escapist thing and an all-consuming distraction, in another manner I was so invested in seeing what happened to Thedas when DA:I came out, then with the end of the game, then with upcoming DLC etcetc that it became a reason to not do something drastic because must know what happens. some people get it but don't really Get It know what I mean? I don't usually talk personal things here either but love you and love this thread also :3

The best characters are the ones that inspire thought and emotion, whether that's positive OR negative. And my favorite characters have always been the ones who inspire a huge spectrum of emotion: love, hatred, compassion, grief. I would personally be much more worried about Solas's future involvement if people had reacted with "meh." Indifference is probably the worst reaction a character can get.

Hmm ... the part in the library where you need veilfire doesn't give a codex, it's just the statue puzzle for the achievement.  I'm thinking maybe the eluvian in the Deep Roads is the same but I haven't gone back yet to check.  After reading what Commander of the Grey wrote, on my first playthrough I know I got the message in the Deep Roads but not the one in near the island retreat which I did get this time.

 

I'm currently being frustrated by an active eluvian in Vir Dirthara.  It's the same area you talk to the Vidasala.  There appears to be no way to it but why would they have it active if you can't use it?

I got the extra option at the end, so yeah I think I had thankfully picked up the one in the Deep Roads. But thanks to you I also got the achievement which I hadn't XD Anyway, for a moment I thought it was the right codex, because when you go to that room you mentioned, and there is a painting of Fen'Harel, this time without a hood, and well everyone can see that it's a bald egg elf.. and Lavellan says "Is that...? Wait, I think I see something". So I thought it was also because of that one that she recognizes him.. But it's not listed in Commander of the Grey's post. Interesting

That or he's sucking up to you playing the "we both elves, my kin" card because he's figured if you're going to be so influential with these people he might as well take advantage of that.  Also easier to have spies under your nose without catching on because he's in your close circle.  

 

First he's all about "my people" are different than "your people" and then suddenly before the romance even kicks in he's at that snowy camp saying "Hey bro', we're on the same team, so let's work together so I can nudge you towards the path I want to to go on."  

 

 Sorry, broken heart is starting to make me bitter.  I've got a few RL exes I'd like to throw into the fade too.

I don't think he's trying to manipulate the Inquisitor. I think he's relaxing for the first time in thousands of years. He's not Fen'Harel while he's with the Inquisiton - he's just Solas again. And he lets himself forget that he was ever Fen'Harel with an Inquisitor he's friends with, and even more with one he's in love with.

As for the my people/your people/our people thing - a lot of the dialouge was written for the protagonist was human only. The romance scenes, however, were all written only for a Dalish PC.

It's disappointing you can't side with Solas.

At this point, I guess I'll headcanon that Revas retires to Lavellan governed Wycome with Merrill, and that the clans are congregating there because of the tolerance for the elven culture and magic.
