Now I am really scratching my head.  Like a dunce I totally forgot that the Veil was down in the horrible future.  Yep it was in chaos all right.  Considering Solas plans to bring down the Veil anyways I wonder why he wasn't pushing to just keep that future .  Yeah I know he didn't have all of his power.

 

Ok.  Struggling to articulate my thoughts. 

 

So yeah the Evanuris would have been free in that future then huh?  Cuz he does say in Trespasser that removing the Veil would free them, but he "had a plan".  Make no wonder that future scared him so bad.  He couldn't enact his plan in his current powerless state and they were probably all free.

I think this last part is right. Solas' 'plan' for the Evanuris, I believe, is implied to be imprisoning/destroying/controlling them some other way. He was not powerful enough to do that during the time of the breach, so in that future, they would've all gotten out and wreaked havoc.

 

This could be the reason they killed Mythal in the first place, and the reason Solas absorbed her power instead of trying to use her spirit to... I don't know, revive her? You'd think he would  have tried if he loved her as as dearly as he seems to. She was the only being powerful enough to stop them or temper them, so they banded together to kill her. That 'stone turning' ability Solas has now could very well be the result of Mythal's power, and the reason he needed it was so he could use it later to imprison them once he tears down the Veil.

Aaaand he said the world was an abomination that must never come to pass. Sooo... is it just the nature of how the Veil was taken down that made things so bad, or did future!Solas realize his plan was stupid, but failed to mention that before sending Inquisitor back to their proper timeline. Hmm.

Yeah what about that future made it an abomination that must never come to pass.  I am really curious which it is as well, the way it was taken down, or did Solas realize that it should never be taken down?  On that same train of thought, how much of this is tied to his orb being broken.  Current Solas still wants to take down the Veil but dark future Solas seems to think that it's not a good thing.  What happens during his journey with the Inquisition that changes him so much.  Or is it just the journey itself that makes him determined to fix it.  But then is it seeing the chaos and suffering that the Veil coming down is what makes him realize it shouldn't come to pass?

 

Bah.  Too many thoughts.

Well, it's a writer position, not an art or programming-based one, and it says they're not necessarily looking for someone with prior experience in game deisgn. If you're interested, I could find again the posting of what they're looking for.

 

Ah, I know, it's just that it really stirred that kind of emotion in me, that very definite little cry of wanting to be all grown up, of wanting to be able to pursue what is on the very top on my list of "things I want to do in life". I've never had it easy in life, so it's difficult to move with a certain certainty towards my goal - I'm mostly just self aware of my mistakes and not really my strengths. 

 

Aww, that's nice of you, but I can't even apply because I live in Germany. And I have nothing to my name as an almost 19 year old youngster. I just have to work towards the future and believe in myself, even though that has always been difficult for me.

 

Until I'm old enough and good enough I'm just looking up to what the teams of Bioware achieve. It's always good to have someone to look up to!

I thought it was how the fade was being torn down that he was against. The rip in the fade had grown far in the Dark Future, but I don't think it means the veil itself was completely gone
I think, Solas wants the veil to come down in one fell swoop instead of having a rip in the veil grow.
If it was instantly taken down then everyone who is not ancient elf would die instantly, due to not being used to veil free world and this might also be the case for I-want-to-be-a-God wannabe.
However, if the fade slowly seeps into the world then everyone who dies when the veil is gone would suffer a much slower death.
I thought that was the only reason why he was helping the Inquisition in the first place, since God Wannabe was doing his dirty work for him.
Solas wants to changed the world even if that means genocide, but think he wants to at least provide a quick death instead of a long slow one.

He didn't tear it down - his intention was to go into the fade and become a god, with no real ambitions towards the barrier between fade and real life (I think Solas makes this distinction in one dialogue - possibly the one where you call him a monster). The breach functioned like a severely weakened part of the veil - attracting lots of demons, but if a tear in the veil was all that was required for something in the fade to escape, then we'd have seen other Evunaris by now. I think they're locked away in areas of the fade that are dangerous and inaccessible to most, like the Black City, which people don't even visit in dreams. Perhaps their nature was so intrinsically tied to spirits that they couldn't escape them.

I think we would have also noticed if the Evunaris were about in Redcliffe - even if Solas was being characteristically shy about it, I reckon the other members of the Inquisition would have mentioned it.

So nah, I don't think the Evunaris were let out in any timeline. Or at least, not yet.

I always really liked the theory that Solas used to be a slave. I wonder if there were any other social classes back then except the evanuris, the slaves, and the rebels of Fen'Harel. I think it's possible that Mythal freed him and I still wonder if the sinner in the Ancient Elven Writing codex entry is him. 

 

Other reasons he could like her: through Flemeth we know Mythal is shrewd herself. I could see how she would notice the potential in an alliance with his organization, which apparently was troubling the evanuris back then. She could have been putting her very best foot forward in front of him, so that he could have him and his rebels on her side.

"The sinner belongs to Dirthamen; he claims he took wings at the urging of Ghilan'nain and begs protection from Mythal. She does not show him favor, and will let Elgar'nan judge him"

 

I doubt he is the sinner. In fact, I don't really understand why people feel the need to assign any Identity to "the sinner". I believe this codex is meant to use as exposition for the Ancient Elvhen culture rather than outline a specific person. It showcases that the Dragon form was sacred and reserved for "The Gods" and their chosen (high keepers and champions I would presume). It also demonstrates the political and religious functioning of their culture. How one was judged for crimes by the gods. It further demonstrates how the gods treated their "people". I believe Ghilan'nain manipulated the sinner. With what we learned of her in Trespasser i.e. the codex "Notes on Methods of Enchantment" we can conclude that research and magical discovery was more important to her than a slave's well being. She seemed cold and calculating in her scientific methods and practices. We also know the gods warred and argued with each other constantly. Using one of Dirthamen's slaves would have been a metaphorical slap in the face. A great way to undermine him. There are so many things we learned that I can't wait to combine

Don't let a difficult start rob you of certainty or confidence. I think I haven't had it easy in life either, but managed to get far compared to where I started, and even experienced a few serious professional and personal failiures in the process. It taught me life can be very unfair, but if you're creative, and most importantly resilient, you can get past it. 

 

And take your time, when you're all grown up there will be all those other awesome opportunities. (Maybe we'll see you working on DA5 )

Actually you don't need to disband. If you kept the Inquisition as a Peace-Keeping Force for The Divine, you go off with Sera and the Jenny's  "unofficially" under The Divine's banner. Here's the quote

The rest however is exactly the same as if you disband the inquisition.

I don't think it's the way of ripping the Veil down but what came afterwards that Solas disagrees with. He says that after removing the Veil he will restore his people, while Corypheus removed the Veil and... (What did he do exactly? Gardening red lyrium?) 

 

Re: Elvhen society I guess there were some middle castes between nobles and slaves; sentinels like Abelas seem to have been part of a priest class that as you said, were certainly better treated than slaves given how much Abelas is suffering for having lost that life. Krem mentions that in Tevinter there are some people that are not slaves like his father was, probably it was the case in Arlathan too, but being a slave was in some ways easier as they had the protection and favour of the Evanuris.

 

The sinner story may be an example of how Elvhen society worked, but also what started the revolt. He committed a crime inspired by Ghilan'nain who probably did it just to amuse herself, he was terribly punished for it but nothing happened to her and it was the turning point for a situation that was already unstable. Perhaps Mythal tried to find some middle ground, gained the favour of the slaves and the forever starry eyes of Fen'Harel (ugh, the way he talks about her... and I'm pretty convinced bad people were not that bad and goog people were not that good); but it made everyone turn agains the rest of the Enavuris and they killed her hoping it would pacify slaves by fear.

I think eventually the breach would have enveloped the entire world - it was growing in Redcliffe. I don't think that would bring about the fundamental change Solas wants though.

 

Remember that Solas does not see modern people as truly people. And that's not because he lacks compassion - but rather, elven nature had been changed fundamentally. I'm lead to think that the creation of the veil fundamentally transformed what 'spirits' and 'elves' were - like, it changed what existence, what being, what living truly meant, rather than just screwing with their magical ability. You're talking about a world where emotions and ideas are physically embodied as spirits, where willpower can reshape and reform the material things around you - how could life be the same as now, under those circumstances? Perhaps elves were part-spirit, or spirits and elves were one in the same, or the two forms would frequently merge and de-merge? We know the fade and the physical world were once one - but we don't know to what extent. Solas was likely screwing with metaphysics as much as magic here.

 

That's not really what Corypheus wants at all. And that's not what the breach did at all - it functioned like a very severe tear in the veil, which drew thousands of demons towards it. Had Solas taken down the veil, if we were thrown suddenly into co-existence with spirits, there wouldn't be a choke point for demons to gather at. And it's also quite possible that said demons would transform in nature after such a change anyway.

Another thought on demon possession and the veil:

without a veil, demon possession wouldn't make sense. demons already occupy the physical world. likely their fixation with it, and causing trouble in it, would be gone. there would be no abominations running rampant - or at least, none without permission - that's for sure.

 

It's possible they become closer to malevolent spirits - dangerous, if pressed, but mostly keep to themselves - instead of world-consuming monsters bent on destruction of everything, darkspawn style. I also imagine the powers gained - the ability to shift and alter reality - from no veil would allow them to be dealt with more easily.

 

Here's the thing: I just can't imagine that the elven empire would have functioned anywhere close to half-way well with so many demons everywhere. I wonder if the creation of the veil perhaps made them worse.

I don't think you need to pick that specific ending. In sera's cutscene, I said I would join up with the Jennies - so come the epilogue, you saw a slide with a cloaked figure with a crossbow arm (!!!), telling me Sera and I were doing Jenny hijinks together. I got this ending for both staying with and disbanding the inquisition. Getting the option to join the Jennies is likely approval related (I think I did really well with sera on that playthrough).
