Eh, I suppose this is the part where I have to bow out and simply say that I wouldn't be offended in a sexist-type manner by something like that. I just wouldn't. And that's probably hypocritical of me because I'm very much about equality in general, but I'm still a woman who will feel flattered if a guy holds a door open for me, rather than be offended that he felt a need to hold the door open for me, you know? 

 

If end of the world stuff is happening and my husband yanked the crap out of my arm to resolve the situation, I could probably appreciate the magnitude of the situation at the time... but afterwards, I'm still liable to slap him for manhandling me, not gonna lie.

 

Pretty much the same here.  But this is another reason I'd rather play a male character; I don't want to be bothered with the gender politics.

 

I love the little grunt he gives when he jumps! I wonder how it is recording those kinds of sounds as a VA haha!

 

I didn't hear him make a sound, but I'm loving all the jumping.  There is going to be so much hopping Inquisitor and everyone else.

If you mean on tumblr, my guess is that you're talking about the psychos obsessed with twilight? I'm surprised the cullen fans don't use the ser cullen tag, less glitter on that one

hahaha I think about that sort of thing too, like do they feel goofy grunting, laughing, sighing, breathing heavily, scoffing, coughing, and making kissy noises into a mic?  I'm worried I'll just giggle any time Iron Bull speaks because I'll be picturing Freddie Prinze Jr making that funny face he does in his VA vid to get the accent to come out right

I'm a bit confused about this whole line of conversation. To me, it looked like the inquisitor was starting to put their hand down (perhaps unaware of how long they needed to keep it there to close the rift), and Solas was making sure they held the position. Seems no different from Dorian grabbing the inquisitor's arm when they tried to leave the amulet to help Leliana and Sera.

If my inquisitor is about to mess up a ritual by stopping too early, I'd rather have a knowledgeable companion physically keep them in place, rather than saying "wait don't sto.... noooo, now we have to start from the beginning again."

I too see it this way. If Solas understands, at least in part, the gravitas to getting these breaches closed (and perhaps how they are closed), and there is hesitation/ or lack of know-how on the Inquisitors part, then him making such a forceful move makes complete sense to me. Maybe he even sees something that the PC doesn't, something that is happening with that very breach, and there is no time for discussion.

Regardless, I suspect that he will do this action with all the Inquisitors, regardless of race or gender. Due to animation reasons, "maybe" the dwarf and/or qunari cinematics look slightly different. Not sure.

The Inquisitor's hand clearly starts at his side.  Solas isn't refusing to let him back off, he's forcing the Inquisitor's hand towards the rift.  In the full version, you can see that the Inquisitor looks hesitant.

 

I don't think what Solas is doing is wrong.  It looks like he's losing patience with an unsure Inquisitor, which doesn't bother me; it looks like Solas knows what needs done and is taking matters into his own hands.

 

But it would be nice to have the option to say, "hey, watch the manhandling."  Simply grabbing someone and forcing them to do something, no matter how important, is probably really uncomfortable for the person being forced.

 

Edit:  I like that he does, from the perspective of a player.  But when roleplaying a character that's being forced, the option to say, "hey, what the hell?" would be nice.

Sometimes I find it funny that people expect Solas to be race-gated. I mean, I understand why. They assume that those who are already straight/gay won't be limited anymore. But if we didn't know any of the characters' preferences yet and we just knew them by their character interviews, Solas would probably be one of the characters that was least expected to be gated based on what we know about him and the way he views the world. 

 

Now of course, people are right to say that his world view doesn't necessarily bleed into his love life and that preferring his own race doesn't make him closed-minded, but we can only really go by what we know about the characters. And what we know about Solas doesn't really scream "race-gated" to me.

 

I guess we'll have to wait and see!

I was glad to read that the spoilery Redcliffe castle quest with Leliana getting tortured happens pretty early in the game, because it's part of the templar-mage war that gets resolved early on. I was worried it was some huge turning point where people could die if you made a ton of bad decisions. Hopefully the new demo won't be too spoilery.

 

In the Solas arm-yanking scene, I think he did just lose patience. I assume the Inq is like, "What, I just stand here? Is this close enough?" And Solas is like, "No, stick your hand in it like this."

Ooohh....! A new trailer and a new demo and a new announcement!? Fingers crossed for a trailer starring a female inquisitor for a change (or at least something other than a human male)! And anything where we actually get to see Solas talk! Those would make me happy. As would knowing more about the specializations... And final LI reveals... *is greedy*

And on the topic of the 'hand scene' with a female Inquisitor - I really hope it isn't any different. Both for the obvious (if you've seen any of my posts in the 'feminist' threads) gender equality reasons... And for the absolutely selfish reason that I think it's kinda hot...

Have a Solas gif to make up for it?  He jumps in this one!  And is apparently not wearing proper shoes.  Cute feet but maybe the plague swamp isn't the best place for half-shoes.

In other outfits used during the demo he has full boots.  So he does wear shoes, just not with every armor he can be equipped with.

Actually, I'm not sure he does! I think he might even have toeless shoes in the blue robes. He really must like the feeling of undead swamp between his toes. 

 

Edit: Also, do you all think that maybe the demo or something else during PAX will include the female elf we saw a while ago? The one with the huge moon in the screenshot? I hope so, because Solas was in that party!

To be fair, even shoes aren't likely to help much when you're sloshing around through the swamp.  You're going to be soaked through.  And the zombie guts are going in your face and hair...  It's probably easier to keep your feet healthy when they aren't soaking inside filthy footwear.
