Oh, I totally agree. I embrace the Inquisitor's lost arm, and I want her to show up in all her stumpy glory.
I also work with the deaf and hard-of-hearing, so combating Ableism is part of my job. It's nothing short of tragic how many parents, relatives, friends, random aquaintences, people on the streets, etc. think that deaf people are fundamentally flawed, crippled, incapable, infantilized, and mentally and emotionally incapable just because they happen to have ears that don't 100% work. Being deaf and hard-of-hearing... just means you can't hear. It doesn't mean you're broken, it doesn't mean you're flawed, it doesn't mean you're incapable. Anyone who's deaf is just as capable of using their eyes, mouths, hands, facial expressions, body language, etc (assuming those don't also need assistance of their own) to make up for the lack of hearing. But it's sad how many parents try to push solutions that aren't in the best interest of their children, just because they think that lack of hearing is a fundamental flaw that they need to "fix."
I also still remember and keep up with the Mad Max hype, which is lawded not only as a feminist film, but as a... um... disability-rights film. How Furiosa's missing arm is treated as just another feature on her body, like her hair or her eyes, not like this great crippling feature that leaves her incapable or incomplete. Her prosthetic limb looks awesome and comes in handy, but she's shown to kick just as much butt and capable of solving just as many problems without it on as with it on. It's amazing how many people with some disability or another (I know it's not a nice way of saying it, but I'm too tired right now) have felt inspired or empowered by that film, and cosplay and write about it.
I imagine my Inquisitor wears her missing arm with pride. She's a mage and only has to use a staff, so I guess she has it easier than archers or two-handed Inquisitors...
Although I do have other Inquisitor who have such fighting styles, and I also imagine that they might use prosthetics if it happens to suit them (like my "one-armed dwarven Furiosa"
), or retrain themselves if it doesn't.
I know my Qunari is totally going to think her missing arm is her most attractive feature after Trespasser, and won't be able to wait to show off her "battle scars" to Josephine in bed. (Poor Josephine...)
