Dammit, Solas! I'm really hoping he doesn't actually go all genocidal murdery on Thedas. Lavellan will kill his charmingly cute murdering self and she really doesn't want to!

A few months ago I posted something along the lines that I hoped Lavellan would catch up with Solas and find out his plans weren't over the top crazy so she could support him. I'm still faintly holding onto that hope. I'm hoping that he's not a total nutball and that he's being forced into this plan of action as inaction will lead to a worse outcome. I also hope that we can find a better way of doing things that doesn't involve millions of deaths. Sigh. I don't think that will happen. Too much hoping usually leads to major disappointment.

I actually expect that the redemption path will involve Lavellan sacrificing herself to save him. Solas will be punished by not accomplishing his plans of restoring elven glory and Lavellan will die because of him. That's a big bucket o' tragedy right there and I'm not sure Weekes will be able to pass it up.

thats so sad, and now I saw it again i so much agree that's what he sees of him..fit for eternal torment.
he is so desperate for punishment/way out, he resents/he's losing himself gradually even more, and keeps going down the same road, making it worse for himself, he sees no way out, deeper and deeper, he is already seeing his death as peace/freedom of guilt/fair punishment.
Someone help him! He is crying out for help so desperately!
I have seen this in dear friends my rl, i really ache for him if noone gets him out of it!
(sorry, this brings memories of beloved friends of mine, drown in a hellspiral of guilt that they want to end themselves as a salvation, and i will never let this happen, if there is something i can do about it..never again as he says..

In some ways, I think he feels that way to protect himself

If he can say to himself "at least I'm being punished", if he keeps his mind busy on the pain he'll feel while successfully executing his plan, he doesn't have to think about what will happen if his plan fails, and he dies alone.

What was the damn point in the elven artifacts to strengthen the veil? Okay, we could take it that perhaps Solas was lying and it didn't really strengthen anything (I mean, it does uncover a pretty powerful rift), but even the Dalish mage at the first artifact is sure it'd strengthen the veil.

The only thing I can think of is his comment about not being a monster, and he would rather the people who will have to die do it in relative comfort. I suppose the elven artifacts helped ensure there were less rifts, but it I don't know. Thoughts?

I had a dream last night, that Solas succeed in his plan and all of the modern day elves, but Lavellan, died. Solas tries to help Lavellan to get use to this world and even see that this is for the better, but its no good. Lavellan is just to deep in depression from grief and Solas starts to think that it would be best if he gave her some space.But when he comes back, she's gone. He later finds her where her clan use to frequently camp out and sees her dead body slumped against a tree. She had slit her own throat and bled to death. He then buries her and plants a tree at the foot of her grave, since that is how Dalish bury their dead and giving her a Dalish burial is the least he could do.
Solas, even when he thinks he's won, he actually loses.

 

This is very sad and beautiful.

 

I dream so little. I've never had a single dream about Solas, and my only dream about DA was that I had to present a talk in front of a bunch of ancient elves. (I had to present the talk IRL, so I guess I was afraid people would look down on me, Abelas style.)

So far I've found Encore's schematic, Elgha'nan Enaste's schematic, and the weapon that has 'chance of bees on hit' but I don't know if that has a schematic.

There's a chromatic greatsword schematic you get from getting a score of at least 80 on the fireworks during the night time scene at Halamshiral right before you go to the Daarvarad.

 

There's a schematic for a light/medium/heavy each of the Calpernia outfit.  There's a shield schematic you can buy in the Vir Dirthara.  There's a 1 handed sword schematic called Brand that you get from finding the harlequin 5 times in Halamshiral (although it shows up under staves in the crafting list).

 

You can pick up a Fade-touched Honey Comb that is not a schematic but a masterwork crafting material that will add chance to inflict Bees! on hit to something.

 

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

So these were my first thoughts when I woke up this morning (I clearly have issues...).

When Solas chuckled while talking about the evanuris killing Mythal and how an eternity of torment is a fitting punishment, it really drew my attention. It stood out compared to his general tone and manner in the entire conversation.

 

In Dalish legends, the Dread Wolf laughed madly with glee for centuries after locking away the Creators in the Beyond. 

 

I just thought it was interesting.

I thought it was kind of an ironic chuckle directed at himself because he eventually wound up doing the same thing.

I think they've planned it all out already, but are keeping it secret, because 1) if they reveal absolutely everything, there will be less to keep us interested in the next DA installment and 2) his plans tie to other lore, such as Blight, lyrium, titans.

If that happens, he will  keep himself away from people even more, since all his friendships/relationships ends in a horrible tragedy that he is responsible for. Becomes a hermit for real, goes off into the woods, and doesn't talk to anyone, not even spirits. Believing that everyone would be better off without him and that he deserves to be forever alone.

Wow, that was a lot of pages to catch up on since I've gone to bed last night. Took me over 3 hours going through everything. There's a lot of post I wanted to reply to, but at this point, it would just be complicated.

Just one thing I would like to chime on in as a somewhat writer myself, as far as death-as-redemption goes. We've been given a lot of foreshadowing throughout Trespasser that this is where the story might be going. but we also know that Bioware, in Dragon Age especially, has always given us some kind of choice about killing or not characters that aren't completely evil (Samson and Calpernia don't have to die. Hell, even Florianne and Erimond don't have to die. We can save the fricking DRAGON in Trespasser, even though it's harder than just killing it).

 

So, I think the choice will be ours when it comes to Solas too, and I'll go so far as saying you guys have hit the nail on the head already about what the choices will be. For the Solas haters, a straight off fight and kill, Solas dies alone and his greatest fear come to pass, can be done. Or, we can decide to save his life at this point, but just as with Loghain have him sacrifice himself at a later time. Or (and I would expect this would be harder to accomplish, as living in itself is harder than dying, wouldn't you say?), we can again spare his life. Get him to attone by actually fixing his mistakes on a smaller scale and over time. In this, I think Solas' arc might be very close to Loghain's.

 

So, hope isn't dead yet! Banal Nadas!

well this is even worse disillusioned/obsessed state of him and even more extreme torment for him! Cause he shows us, he is stuck in his self-denial and cant get out, he keeps getting in it deeper and eventually again becomes the dread wolf - the part of himself that's a defensive yet destructive mechanism, and he is surely not fond of it - and he knows it which makes everything so much painful for him that he is again resorting to this

I'm not absolutely certain, but I remember having to run into (what I assume) was the same one a few times before they stay in one place. The most wooshes I heard before a capture was four.

I think he was chuckling at the absurdity of killing an immortal being. It would be like trying to shoot a vampire to death.

It's so beautiful and sad to think he chuckled because he realizes he did the same and now faces an eternity of torment. 

 

He probably sees it as killing her, but I think Mythal's playing him, so I don't put the blame on him for this one.

 

I still wonder if the "laughed madly with glee" part of the legend corresponds to anything.

I'm actually afraid that if this happens, he will react in a similar way to when his friend died and go on a murdering rampage, abandoning all sense he had.

Either way, his biggest fear comes to pass and he winds up alone. Poor guy, but I want to knock him on his egghead because he's ultimately responsible for bringing about his own tragedy.

Oh, he does ... after you exit the dungeons into the courtyard.  In my group I had Dorian, Solas and Varric.  I freed Solas first - I mention this because sometimes party order determines where people are in a cutscene although I'm not sure if it determines what they say.  I think party composition also plays a part in who says what.  At any rate, you go into the courtyard:

 

Inquisitor:  The Breach .. it's ...

Dorian:  ... everywhere!

Solas:  The Veil is shattered.  There is no longer any barrier now between this world and the Fade.

 

The scene is still pretty fresh in my mind as I played it just last night.

Cal's armor is in one of the optional eluvians in the crossroads. Once the whole of the right path becomes available follow it to the middle eluvian island that's furthest away in the middle, proceed to the right up the path and there should be one of those red eggs you can discharge on the left side all the way to the back leading up to an eluvian.
