Lavellan: I think we need to schedule an arlathvhen and rally up all the clans. He's the Dread Wolf who created the Veil to save the elves from the Creators, who are actually evil, but he took away our immortality, and now he's trying to end the world by removing the Veil, which will cause us all to die, but our ancestors will come back again, but deep inside he's still a good person, he's just very conflicted, and he needs to let go of the past and realize this world is beautiful as well, and please don't look at me like this!

I was joking about him being softer on a mage. If anything, I'd expect him to be more hard on her - since with a great power comes a great responsibility, and mages do wield a great power indeed.

 

It was really just a pitiful attempt for hope, really. That he might think it through this time, and actually screw all his doom and gloom as usual and instead go happy-go-lucky with some Lavellan.

Yup! I'm just replying to what UmAbbas said on whether Solas "will do better with the mage", since she stated that she created an elven mage and wondered if the PT would be different from her elven archer PT; and as far as I know, a lot of the dialogue is pretty much the same no matter what class you are.

 

And oh god, when he said that line... ("And now you know...")

YEP this is what I want the most now. Or rather, earn your Sweet Side of Bittersweet Ending. If they were going for tragic, they should have

killed the Inquisitor and had a heart-breaking death scene in front of the eluvian, where Solas comforts her in her last moments.

 

I am way more optimistic that this can happen after Trespasser

He says these artifacts belong to the ancient elves, and act to strengthen the veil. Did he create them before he put on the veil and then scattered these to support the veil where there were a lot of wars (like building foundations)? Did they serve a different purpose before? I am confused, I can't see these artifacts being placed post-veil because I sort of headcanon Solas went to sleep afterwards because otherwise he would've been aware of thet a catastrophe he had brought on and tried to fix it instead of waiting. If they were placed post-veil it was possibly by Solas' agents..

Anyhow, I do believe Solas doesn't lie (except by omission), I don't think these serve to weaken the veil, he cares about spirits, he probably hates it when they get corrupted after passing to the other side and it could be a mean of protecting them.

I think that these artefacts can be switched on and off. So yes, Solas was right, they strengthen the veil - but they can also weaken it too. The Inquisitor was helping Solas by identifying stray artefacts, so that when it comes to switching it off, he has more locations of otherwise unconfirmed pieces of the puzzle.

 

That, or it was just a fetch quest for Solas' approval.

Nope! I freaked out too when I figured it out. Imshael had possessed her but Felassan convinced him to leave her by saying "bigger things" were coming. I kind of wish we had been able to recruit her as a companion.

 

She also tries to get the passcode from Briala at the end, but Briala refuses unless the Dalish agree to help the city elves.

 

Holy crap! I'm still out of likes so take a heart Also, speaking of Felassan; did anyone catch what Cole said about him?

I can't remember the starting part but it ends with "the slow arrow snaps in the sad wolf's jaws", or something to that effect. It sounds like Solas deeply regretted killing Felassan, but I wonder why he did though? Solas doesn't seem like the "you failed, to the lava pits with you!" type of villain... Maybe he suspected Felassan would go back to Briala and warn her? Try to fight him?

I think Weekes is one of the best writers as far as understanding what fans want, but also keeping to the original vision that the story hand. Solas is actually a really good example of it. The story demands that he become the villain- but the ending is written in a way that does not feel as though we've lost. 

 

He was also one of the writers who pushed for Tali/Garrus to be a romance option, arguably two of the top three romance options in Mass Effect.

 

At this point- I have pretty much complete faith in Weekes. He is an immensely talented writer who cares about both the community and story. I can't say enough how thrilled I am that he's now the lead writer for Dragon Age. 

 

You're absolutely right. I've got full confidence in Weekes despite how we often depict him as the evil collector of fan's tears. We all absolutely gush about Weekes (and it's totally warranted), but I hope we don't forget about Gaider!

Solas = ruining romance for countless women. In short, you shall never love anyone quite like you loved Solas. MUHAHAHHA! (Sounds like some ancient curse lol)

 

The thing is, I love fluffy romances! Alistair is still a close second favourite of the DAI series, and Garrus' is my top favourite for ME! Although Fenris' romance is my favourite for DA2, I hated the drama, and how long it took for things to get resolved between him and Hawke. But for Inquisition? Yeah, I think Solas has ruined any chance for another romance in DAI. xD

That's an excellent point actually! I'm likely to suspect they were put in place by his agents perhaps during the creation of the Veil (we don't know how long it took to create it), or some short time immediately afterwards, but then why weren't they activated by said agents? Did Solas intend to go around afterwards and do it? Were his agents dead by this point, and if so, how did he get so many new ones in the short space of time he was awake for before Inquisition, during and after?

 

I feel Solas and Cullen's romances are quite spread out across the game rather than doing all the cut scenes back to back. My Dorian one for example was lovely but I basically done most of it as soon as I got to Skyhold. I wish Solas had a few more scenes in the romance. I do really enjoy Cullens as well...Cullen is safe. Safe and fluffy. 

 

It's the same for me with Solas' romance, as soon as I reach Skyhold I generally have enough approval to do both of the main romance scenes back-to-back (or at least set up the second one immediately following the first). I think the scenes we had were perfect, but I would have loved to seen a more domestic side to it, even once. The hand-holding in Crestwood was absolutely delightful, and before then I didn't think they'd be the type of couple to walk around like that. But overall, I'm so pleased with what we have, including Trespasser's scenes.

 

After Trespasser, my Team Optimism cap is screwed back on, and I'm feeling hopeful for the future. BRING IT ON, BIOWARE!

It dawned on me that everyone must have sat around discussing what happened after my Lavellan disbanded the Inquisition and all. I can just see her, Leliana, Josephine, Cullen and Cassandra all sitting for the first time in years just having a cup of tea or something.

 

Josephine:So, wait, Solas is the Dread Wolf? I am not familiar with Dalish lore, who is that exactly?

Lavellan: It's complicated....

Leliana: He's Fen'Harel. The Dalish have believed him to be a trickster and that he locked away their gods. Turns out he did by creating the Veil himself. Our dear Lavellan here swears there is a goodness to him though. *smiles and winks at Lavellan*

Cullen: I always knew there was something weird about him. Always this look like "I know more than you" look.......And he doesn't like tea! Who doesn't like tea?!? Sorry, Inquis....Sorry Lavellan.

Lavellan:*sigh*

Cassandra: My dear friend....the heart break  must be awful. Tell me if you need anything.

Lavellan:*smiles at Cassandra*

Then you nearly get us thrown out of the WInter Palace Ball, and yes you saved the world but do you know how many times I had to explain that look you gave people everytime you heard the word 'rabbit' in Val Royueax!?!?! You just up and leave meetings with nobles and you don't use proper titles anywhere! And now I'm hearing that the whole time you have been having a love affair with your people's most hated god! If this gets out there, I don't think there are enough political favors in all of Thedas to recover from this!

Mordin is not = to Solas

I didn't play Mass Effect but hubby is saying that he(Thane) had a genetic disease so it was pre-written that he would have to die. Also his atonements are not on the same scale as Solas.

I think bottom line is Mass Effect is not = to Dragon Age. We might see some similar writing styles/themes but they won't give us the same game.

Ha, I made a post about the meaning of this yesterday but this thread moves way too fast now. I'll see if I can find it, but

I went back the other day to the end of the book and Felassan sends Briala on her way without letting her give him the passcode. Then when he's in the Fade and talking to who we now know to be Solas, he says "They're much stronger than you think, you know." And before this, he said "let them try".

 

So yeah, Felassan saw Briala and the elves as people. As possessing a certain strength and they should be allowed to try.

 

 

In the post yesterday that I can't find, I believe that the matter of Felassan's death, now that we know it was him, is a look at "they're not people" Solas. With the Inquisition he begins to respect some people, and if Lavellan, maybe even love her. If it's an Insuqisitor he respects and is friends or in love with, he does admit he was wrong.

 

So now, with his experiences, in friendship or love, well, no matter how he tries to keep pushing it down, those experiences changed something within. He's still resigned to his plan, but he's not 100% cold Felassan suggests the city elves have some strength so he must die' Fen'Harel anymore. He has regrets and knows the Inquisitor will come after him, regardless of dialogue choice, and it does seem he wants to be stopped.

 

This change leaves the door open for hope. Cole knows.
