So I've been re-reading the Masked Empire because of reasons, and when Best Elf fails to give the password to Solas and lies about it, he knows he's going to die...and this quote in particular is striking:

 

 

I mean...It's really not the Solas we know, is it? He's utterly ruthless and not even willing to consider anything else for just a slight moment. And he's been that way for a while, since Felassan knew he would be like that. 

 

This breaks my heart. but it also makes me hopefully. Solas has changed a great deal in the 1+ year he passed with the Inquisition. He's already not the man Felassan knew anymore. It gives me hope that he can continue to change for the better.

His coldness does break the heart, I'm still digesting it.

He seems a bit regretful that he had to kill him (if I remember his tone correctly), I'm wondering whether he did it so this "ill thought" won't spread to other agents, it could have caused a stir in their ranks. Also, he may have just awakened and was in fragile state of mind, it was probably something he really didn't want to hear because it threatens what he feels right now, which is probably a roller coaster of emotions and guilt.

 

By the way, I looked again at the dialogue tree

When the Inquisitor asks "what would've happened if Corypheus would have died and you'd recovered the orb?"

To that he answers "I would have entered the Fade, using the mark you now bear. Then I would have torn down the Veil. As this world burned in the raw chaos, I would have restored the world of mine... the world of the elves"

 

So from that it sounds like he means to stick around after to get the elves back to their feet, it doesn't sound like he is about use time magic since he says "as", he also says that the world would burn "in the raw chaos"...

It sounds less like insta-death and more like the chaos that the tearing of the Veil would bring is what meant to be the end of the world (as said in a few posts back, adjustment issues).

 

Edit: Another interesting thing is that besides that he doesn't refer to bringing down the Veil, I just read the entire dialogue tree. He just speaks of restoring his people and he won't answer why this would mean the death of the world. Does he plan on doing something else? Because he does answer to what will happen if the Veil was torn down (chaos) but he won't answer that question. This is actually.. Pretty suspicious.

while this isn't directed at anyone in here because let's be real this thread has been crazy and I can't even keep up with it to know anyone's real thoughts on Solas, I shall post this

He's still my all time favorite DA character, only being tied with Morrigan and I am eager to see more of him.

This line from Solas in Trespasser really brought home his character to me:

"I did not lead a rebellion against immortal mage kings without getting my hands bloody."

 

And the way he says it, ah, it sounds so blunt. It's the line and delivery that make me believe this guy can be someone who is ruthless and make the terrible choices. I loved it, because it made a conversation so very different to all our previous 'The faaaaaade' chats from the main game.

 

But it also shows the affect the Inquisitor has on the guy. The fact he can drop a line about bloodying his hands without looking like he cares and then suddenly pull them freaking puppy dog eyes of sad a few sentences later when he tells of how the Inquisitor makes what comes next harder for him. It makes me really believe that he does care about the Inquisitor and there is the tiniest bit of hope that they can get through to him.

Oh, I felt so sorry for him in that moment. He says that with so much pain and sorrow. I think he also fears what will be her reaction to his true identity.

Agreed,poor puppy. Like their relationship has been terminated and knows that he won't be able to get back together with her since she'll be dead after he completes his plans, but he's still like "Please don't hate me vhenan. I love you."

Ok, I'm going crazy with this stupid Flycam thing. I can't understand why it won't move.

Basically the stupid cam just spawns in a point and it will not move anywhere. So if I toggle free cam I am doomed to see all the cinematic from behind Lavellan's shoulder.. I can rotate on myself I cannot get the cam to move anywhere.. I'd like to capture the kiss from the other side where he has his hand on her face!!

Anyone who is a cam expert knows what the hell it is that I'm doing wrong? I remember that in previous versions I was able to move the camera and then rotate it and adjust it...   
But you people seem to be able to do it.. could it be Windows 10? (stupid question but..)

Or am I missing something in how it's supposed to be moved? maybe new versions changed something??

On the subject of Dalish clan names and such...

I was actually wondering what my Lavellan would do post-Trespasser in regards to clan related things....because she is now the last of clan Lavellan.

 

So....I don't know what would make the most sense. Would a Dalish in her position find a new clan? Even with all the clans kind of disappearing? And if she did find a clan to accept her would she take their clan name or merge it to Lavellan?

 

I know finding a new clan would probably be a little low on the totem pole of priorities with everything else going on, but I did want to think of something happy for my Lavellan....and I figured a happy thing(after all of everything she has been through) would be her finding a new clan.

I think you have to use Page Up and Page Down and the number pad to move the camera around. numbers 4-9 on the numpad I think.

Random thought. You know what would be interesting to see gameplay-wise in the next game? If Solas' trjectory mirrored what the player think of Solas. To all those players who hate him and want to murder-knife him and so do and say things that reflect their world view, the game (and Solas) react by having him going farther and farther off the deep end, mirroting that fact. To those players, the Dread Wolf WILL become the monster they've constructed in their minds. On the other hand, players who still believe he can be redeemed and do and say things to that effect in game get to see that what they are doing is actually working. All that to lead to his eventual redemption. A bit like how the way we interracted with Leliana made her soft or hard, but on a game-wide scale.

 

Heck, I'm not even sure how that could work. Different decision trees where some decisions appear or disappear depending of previous dialogues and decision? Hidden approval (or redemption) meter? I think it could be extremely interesting and make a real change on world state while all ending up at the same place (Solas is stopped, one way or the other)

Guys...I'm.....watching....it....again

 

I recorded all the cutscenes with both my Quizzies and put them all on my phone. I have watched many many times, all over the place. 

 

ANY TIME, ANYWHERE.

 

 

Also, my loved ones are becoming concerned now.

They keep wondering why I'm so quiet and constantly lost in thought. 

They think I'm going through some kind of bad depression like I have done in the past.

 

Not quite sure how to explain that I'm lost in thoughts of Solas. Wandering into headcannons of what my Lavellan's will be doing next and what kind of character's they'd bring with them and ... ah. Possibilities.

 

So yeah, I'm quiet because I don't have much to say outside of talking about Dragon Age.   IT IS ALL CONSUMING. 

I even finally picked up TW3, but as I'm wandering around, yeah, thinking of my Inquisitors. 

 

I get a tiny bit too emotionally invested in some things...

I have so many saves that I reached the cap and cleared them out of the folder into two separate folders for organizational purposes. And that's not including all my Trespasser saves since I just overwrote as needed since I made the other folder backup the night before. I am an obsessive saver.

 

I'm going to back those up next and when i feel like playing through again, maybe clear out for my Seramancing mage. I'll have fun RPing this one. She'll be a bit too serious and devout...at first.

Random thought. you know what would be interesting to see gameplay-wise in the next game? If Solas' trjectory mirrored what the player think of Solas. To all those players who hate him and want to murder-knife him and so do and say things that reflect their world view, the game (and Solas) react by going farther and farther off the deep hend, mirroting that fact. To those player, the Dread Wold WILL end up the monster they've constructed in their minds. on the other hand, players who still believe he can be redeemed and do and say things to that effect in game get to see that what they are doing is actually working. Catching up on the mach speed thread, but I wanted to toss in 2 cents on choice in a game:

 

ME2 was IMO a great self-contained example of the illusion of choice.  Because let's face it; the basic plot of ME2 is entirely on rails.  You HAVE to recruit the first set of characters.  Horizon, the Reaper, Cerberus, and the Collector Base all play out more-or-less the same way.  And yet, I never felt frustrated like I did in ME3, because ME2 gave me so many other little ways to react to the world.  All the companion quest outcomes.  All the differences in dialogue tone.  I couldn't stop working for Cerberus, but I could damn well have a very loud opinion on it  Compare this to ME3, where I couldn't express any opinion except "ALLIANCE GOOD CERBERUS BAD."

 

The illusion of choice IMO is what's important.  Allowing the player to attempt things and RP their character, even if those choices won't necessarily work out to anything dramatically different.  That's what I loved about Trespasser.

We are in opposition to Solas no matter what.  But there's such a huge RP difference between "I love you and won't give up," "I'll change your mind," and "I'LL MURDER YOUR STUPID FACE OFF."  What I get out of RPing isn't necessarily the huge world-changing stuff.  It's shaping a character, seeing the world through his or her eyes.

 

Oh ME3 was awful. I had to beg forgiveness to Kaidan for romancing Thane when all I wanted to do was to say F**k off you left me! And Jacob mancers have to beg for a kiss even though he has a pregnant girlfriend now

I can just imagine now all the cries of "Have we even played the same game? Solas is totally evil/redeemable!" Until people realize that they have in actuality NOT been playing the same game. What, as a player and a character both have decided is your world view has had a huge impact on how things appear in game. I think this could be done, although it might be more money and trouble than it's worth *shrugs*
