Anyone have a list of the comments others make about Solas and his relationship with Lavellan in Trespasser?

My old Lavellan never wanted to be first either, because she is afraid that she is not cut out to be a leader and that her leadership will lead her clan to their demise. She's kinda like Alister in that regard. After being put into the position of the Inquisitor, she was like "Haha, we are all going to die."

Seriously though, I never thought about her similarities with Alistair, but now that you mentioned it, I can see quite a few. o.o she uses humor as a shield and she thinks she's the funniest person alive... she's a little smarter than Alistair though, she's less heart-of-gold and more logic-oriented, I guess!

I could never justify his actions but I sympathize with him, even pity him, once he said it feels like walking a world full of Tranquil I just understood.

What he does is wrong but I think if some of my Inquisitors were in his shoes they might have done the same, I could never but I'm the type of person to guide a cockroach out of her house instead of killing it, so I'm not a good example.

I could never justify his actions but I sympathize with him, even pity him, once he said it feels like walking a world full of Tranquil I just understood.

Well, all that talk about Mass effect finally convinced me to try the games. I'm not so good with shooters usually. *gulps* Halp!

 
play on casual and work your way up. don't worry - I have bad hand-eye co-ordination and bad reflexes, and still managed it I now currently have a third run-through on hardcore (with an adept, of all people) mode on the go. That's usually my approach to RPGs - I only really tend to appreciate the combat challenge through replay.

So uh friendly neighborhood mad scientist here. Anyways, I agree with Solas. The veil is unnatural and should have never been put up in the first place, imo. It's caused horrible longterm confusion, political strife, and oppression (all over magic) because modern Thedosians couldn't understand the part of the world that was shut off from them, and, in effect, scary and something to be shunned. 

 

The only way, imo, to have peace in Thedas is to bring back the magic and teach the people to understand what it is they've been so scared of for millennia. The way I think of it is that by letting the veil continue, you're just promoting the deeply rooted ignorance of modern Thedosians.

 

Now, in saying that, the one thing I don't agree with Solas about is bringing back the Elvhen Empire. That is just wrong. They're dead and gone. New people have made homes in their stead, and taking that away from them is cruel and gross.

 

However, I'd rather have the Elvhen Empire in power instead of human/qunari/dwarven nations who would just cause chaos under the new world oder of "magic is everywhere OH MY GOD!!" The elves could be a stabilizing force, if Solas keeps them from becoming an oppressive one. 

 

Anyways, yeah I think Solas is doing a good thing by opening up the veil, mostly, because of how I view the long term effects after all the chaos subsides.

It's not the fact that there is hate, I hate Vivienne (amazing character but oh-gawd-her-personality-she's-insufferable-to-me), but I don't go on attacking those who like her and call them idiots or something of the sort. People find different things in different characters...

It's the disrespect, as more and more things are revealed about him it gets worse, like being a pro-mage or pro-elf.

And people hoping that by the end of Dragon Age elves will cease to exist.. Ugh.

I think they are misinterpreting Solas' intentions, they aren't as loud and clear when you aren't playing an elf since he says "my people" and "elves" in his dialogue.

Still stinks though

 

I didn't even care at the beginning for elves, only dwarves, but Solas made me create an elf for the first time and I thought it was a wonderful experience.

Most of my favourite characters tend to be hated, so I'm used to it by this point.

 

All these ME posts have made me realise that I do not have a canon for those games. I like Shepard, but I have never been attached to that character like I have my HoF and Quizzies. 

So I have played with every background, almost all the classes (never soldier. I think that's the only one I've not done) and have done both male and female, romancing Thane. Kaidan, Garrus (twice), Tali and Liara. 

 

I really need to go back and 100% ME1 like I started out doing. I do not like ME1 much. I will not forgive all the people from these forums who claimed it was the best of the trilogy. Lies. I hope those same people didn't moan about the repetitive maps in DA2. Because that's all ME1 is outside of the main story. The same freaking map to sidequest through.

I also hate the mako.

HATE.

I already said I think the Veil tearing down won't be what kills people, but their inability to adjust to the new situation and perhaps Solas plans on leading a war to expel humans from Thedas' lands.

I want his plan to half succeed, for him to stop after the Veil is down so everybody can harvest the benefits of this situation, it could bring a lot of needed harmony, will help the mages, the elves...

That actually we don't know. We only know that he wants return of his people and bring back the world from the time of elves, where everyone has a conscious and strong connection to the Fade - but those are very vague statements that don't necessarily imply that he wants the return of 'elven glory' or elvhen civilization: merely a world that was before (likely before Evanuris or something as well)

Yeah, that's how I see it. The impending Elvhen Invasion should be stopped, but not the veil being torn down part. I'm good with that. 

 

I'm fine with the elves having their own empire, however, as long as modern elves are included and it's not all ancient elvhen supremest.

 

I feel like Solas should:

 

a)bring down the veil

 

b)use the chaos to gain an advantage over the other countries to gain some land back for the elves (not just ancient) 

 

c)stop there. no getting back the old empire and trying to conquer the world again.

If there were a way to manage it without

destroying the world, and killing almost everyone, I would agree with you here. I think a lot of the problems surrounding mages come from a fundamental misunderstanding - mages are either on a pedestal, or are institutionalised, they're never equals. When magical problems happen, ordinary folk don't know how to deal with them. And mages often struggle to relate to ordinary folk's troubles as well - for all the things I hate about the Circle of Magi, at least nobody ever starves or struggles to find work in there. So removing the veil could possibly usher in a new age of understanding, where you can't lock up magical problems in towers but instead have to work together, as communities, to deal with them.

 

I think it's worth always pointing out though that a lot of the problems in ancient and modern Thedas are social rather than magical. When you have a class of nobles so distant from the commonfolk that they're willing to enslave them and treat them as cattle, you have problems. This has occurred in Arlathan, in Tevinter, in Orlais... magic compounds some problems, and sometimes exacerbates them (e.g. the good ol Tevinter practice of sacrificing slaves during blood magic rituals), but they're primarily problems of a different origin.

 

It's why I'm actually kind of wary of where Solas is going. Regardless of outcome, I hope he doesn't lose his sense of compassion entirely, and I hope he remembers exactly what he's fighting for - and why.

 

Most of my favourite characters tend to be hated, so I'm used to it by this point.

I agree with your post completely. That's why my Lavellan offered to join Solas. She was a bit put off by his later expanations. It sounds like he wants needs to kill everyone (maybe even all modern elves) and this is something I don't understand. Why would that be needed? Can't it be done better? I hope that with Inquisitor's help he will choose a gentler path and will help the world in recovering from destroying the Veil instead of proceeding with destroying the world. For a path where Inquisitor wants to kill him, I want Solas to be able to go with his plan anyway. I don't think there should be a possibility to kill him. Try to, yes, but not succeed. I want the magic to come back.

 

As for my Lavellan's background. Her parents were city elves and died before they reached the Dalish (they were attacked by slavers). She managed to escape, because her magic manifested that day with a great force (some people burned in the process). She was later found lost in a forest near the Dalish Camp and so they took her in.
Years later her whole Clan has been killed, because of her bad decision.

 

To sum up, she has nowhere to go really. No family, no friends, no home, since the Inquisition started. Skyhold is her new home and people there her only friends. And not even all of them.

But I assume, after disbanding the Inquisition, she would lose that too...And maybe that should be the case, since Solas knows that palce probably much better than her. Anyway still thinking about the final decision here.
