I manage, somehow. I'm guessing it will bring more feels, but going to finish ep 4 of Life is Strange. Considering I'm actually sleepy, the wise thing might be to go to bed early for once, but I'm not claiming wisdom.

 

Especially since I rewatched the Trespasser Solas stuff again about 20 minutes ago.

Maybe modern Thedas can survive if he is successful so long as it isn't instant kill. After all, the people of this world suffered through things like the Blights and are still around. They are more adaptable then Solas thinks. Sure, a lot of people will die, but that's the norm in Thedas.

Does the return of the evanuris bring annhilation? He mentioned they were on the brink of destroying his world when he made the Veil. That is certainly a terrible enough plan to be worthy of Solas  Although he did also say that he didn't want the people of modern Thedas to suffer, and if they had to die, they should die in comfort.  That wouldn't work with the Evanuris running around.

 

I think it's more likely that he has some kind of backup trap for them.  A contingency plan that will fire off whenever their original bindings break.  Of course, a million things could have gone wrong with the backup by now.

I've recreated a cutie Lavellan who obviously is going to romance Solas and ouch...I had forgotten how harsh he is with her when talking about the Dalish "Ah the Dalish remembering something correctly ! We should plant a tree ! They're insulting themselves blahblah...ah nope, that city elf doesn't want to know what it was like being an ancient elf, he would be bitter and could do something foolish..."

Though I agree with Solas on everything, I know that the regular, more morally normal person wouldn't. I want to make a solasmancer Lavellan that challenges his beliefs and makes him think beyond his own wisdom, but idk if that's possible.

As long as you actually show curiosity and kindness, I think it's possible yes. There's enough occasions to gain approval from him simply by asking questions and asking him about the fade. Your only way to really get him to hate you is being really close-minded and full of yourself (believing yourself the herald).

I certainly can understand why Solas thinks the Dalish are foolish, but I have to wonder... does he care about them in any way?

 

He has to care about them on some level, even if he says he doesn't. Otherwise why would he have gone to all the effort of trying to talk to Dalish clans, and [possibly] communicating with Keepers in their dreams? Felassan also suggested that he'd been involved with the Dalish- although he was also very frustrated with them.  

 

So, they did at one point factor into their plans in some capacity. I think part of Solas is bitter about being rebuffed and demonized.

Do mean choices? I allied with templars, kept wardens, told him blood magic and demons are dangerous etc., did not let him kill mages in his personal mission, but activated artefacts, asked him questions and took him along when helping people. I did make Cole more spirit. The romance works so far, haven't completed ToM yet in my supercanon.

My first Lavellan romancing him took all the decisions he disapproved of, except for the mages: she made Cole more human, she drank from the well, she didn't exile the Grey Wardens, and she prevented him from killing the mages...

Since I've always agreed with him completely, and I always make my characters a lot like me personality wise, I've never really tried out what happens when you don't do what he wants. It'll go against my morals a bit, but whatever. I like pissing him off

I'm actually coming around to the theory that Solas is an ancient purpose/pride demon/spirit, maybe. Or at least partially was. Or potentially, once was that, and was changed.
 
There's a couple of codex entries which suggest that elves were very spirity, for instance, "Exile of the Forbidden Ones" describes a banishment of a spirit:
 
"For abandoning the people in their time of greatest need, for casting aside form to flee to where the earth could not reach, we declare Xebenkeck and others of her ilk exiled from the lands of the Evanuris. Beware! Their familiarity with shape allows them to travel paths unaided. They may be bound, but only the protection of the gods will fully shield you from their malice. They are forbidden from the earth that is our right."
 
- This spirit has a gender. She, not it. These spirits have identities beyond what they represent. They have names which aren't mere emotions.
- These spirits could take forms and shapes - they aren't formless, vague beings.
- "travel paths" could be literal - i.e. autonomy of movement, or it could be more figurative, and given the amount of time 'path' is used in elven to denote someone's major life choices, one wonders whether Xebenkeck had free will, and ability to choose, and that is frowned upon as dangerous.
- binding spirits, a practice that Solas finds particularly abhorrent, is something that's encouraged here. Perhaps slavery and binding are closer than we think in the elven world - to a certain extent, they have the same purpose, they submit people to someone else's will without choice.
- it's ambiguous here whether Xebenkeck was considered one of the people, or simply a servant of one. The usage of 'our' right suggests not. Still, spirits were duty bound to serve elves, akin, again, to slavery.
- regardless of whether elves resemble spirits of vice versa, they have a legal status in the elvhen empire, which suggests that they're treated as something close to 'people', even if they're hardly equals (think something alike to the relationships between humans/dwarves/elves in modern thedas).

I think the paths that codex is referring to are the crossroads. When you talk to the archivist and ask what the last words of the Elvhen in that area were: "Where are the paths?". When Solas put up the veil it messed up the crossroads/paths. Their familiarity with shape could be about them being able to take a form able to traverse the crossroads. I've been wondering if the set of armor you can pick up has something to do with that as it's named "The Taken Shape".
 
Xebenkeck appears in the Forgotten Lair in Kirkwall too, I haven't watched a video of what is said but I know she appears as a desire demon.

The other day I asked if anyone had found a codex about Anaris, turns out I was imagining things. But there is this if you drank from the well of sorrows and speak with the spirit guardian:
 

 
Ar = I/my,
Melana = time,
Dirthavaren = promise, or "speak our".
Revas = freedom.
Vir-anaris = way of anaris.
 
The "passphrase" is Revas vir-anaris? Freedom way of Anaris.
 
Anaris is the forgotten one from the story "Fen'harel and the tree" in which he fights with Andruil over a captured Fen'harel. Fen'harel outsmarts them both and in the end chews through his ropes to escape.
 
Fen'harel walked between the Forgotten Ones and the "Creators" so I suppose he could have had some sort of alliance with Anaris. Still, you rarely see mention of them so I though I would point it out after seeing it mentioned on tumblr.

Also, I've been playing Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf" on loop all night; it's a song I imagine Solas and my Lavellan danced to at the Orlesian Ball. It's kind of my "happy thought" when it comes to Solas. 

 

Whoa.  I love that song, but seeing the video again made me realize how much has changed since I was a kid in the '80s.  

 

Sri Lankan/Indian people being used as a backdrop of "savages" while the white guy "hunts" a clearly-not-Sri Lankan black woman in completely made-up "tribal war paint" through the jungle?

I'm having a lot of fun with Adaar who challenges Solas.

 

Be warned: it gets problematic if you tick a character off too much to dig yourself out of the hole, but don't have enough disapproval to trigger the disapproval dialogue.  You get into this weird zone where they just refuse to talk.  I never sunk myself that deep with Solas since he approves of smiling at people, but I'm at that point with Viv in Adaar's PT.

Does anyone remember the banter between Varric and Solas about reuniting Orzammar and Kal-Sharok? Where Solas says "how can you be happy surrendering, knowing it will all end with you? How can you not fight?"

2. He has been chained. As the chain is around his neck, you have to wonder who's holding the leash, so to speak. His own guilt perhaps? since this was done before the fall of Arlathan, it might not be so metaphorical though

3. The droplets are green. Elvhen magic of the sort that Solas does is that weird greenish blue, so that might be what it represent. else, the Fade is green, so again, it might represent Solas' connection to the fade and fade-based magic.

4. The circle represent a foci, or at least that's my best bet. Foci of which magic drips (the droplets). And the dread Wolf is holding it.

 

*Shrugs* It's about the best I can do and it's what I see here.

Hello Solas thread!! I'm a long time lurker, but I was hoping someone could help me out. And hopefully it's not considered off topic; I mean it's kind of Solas related? And I like the lore hounds in this thread. You guys have some great stuff!

 

I'll put it under a spoiler tag since it kind of involves information revealed by Trespasser.

Anyway, I was hoping someone might have Eleni Zinovia's full dialog on hand, or know where I can find it? The wiki has big quotes that are probably the most important stuff, but I'm wondering if there's anything missing that would make sense after the events of Trespasser. Even in those quotes, she says "the prison is breached", and now we know Solas put up the Veil to imprison the Evanuris. So if they're escaping, then maybe that's making Solas take drastic action... Also, I completely forgot that there were veil tears happening in that quest! But Witch Hunt takes place years before Solas wakes up, right? Does that mean something?!

And for something completely different, thinking of Eleni being a stone statue (but not turned to stone, her spirit was bound to the statue) made me think of the people who were actually turned to stone, the pirate statues in MotA. They were cursed by a maleficar... so Solas uses blood magic now? Or is turning people to stone something only uber elven can do, that the only way for lesser beings to replicate it is through blood magic?

Is any of this even still relevant for DA: I??

 

And sorry if this has already been brought up and/or repeated! It's a big thread...

It's probably going to be nightmare and completionest. Because of this, I want the best team for a solasmance and also survivability (cause i'm a casual player and don't want to cry too hard trying to do Descent on nightmare. Hell, I say. Hell.)

 

I have no idea what to do for the team though. I want to make a rift mage, and so ,because I'll be taking Solas along (duh), I have to have a rogue and a warrior for my other two. 

 

Opinions on the best team for a solasmance? (and also specifically on mine because ... i'm not sure yet =3=)

I just thought of a headcanon thing that might work well. I love when things click.

As far as the arm goes, and the training she will need. I'd have Dagna figure something out but in my headcanon, I had her, post- Corypheus, apprentice her brother with the Inquisition as an armorer/craftsman so he could spend a little time picking up new techniques and styles. To have her little brother play a part in this would be nice. Then they can return together and warn her family.

 

I had already planned that for a while, but yay unexpected relevance.

With the right gear and skills, Blackwall never dies. Well, maybe not never, but he's reliable.

I was changing armor for my team and scrolled over the Qunari armor while on Solas, and daaa ummm.Of course I'm not mean enough to keep him in them but they do show off some of his muscles (I just installed them, I figured why not buy them when getting the DLC but didn't wait for them to install before playing)
