Viv moved out my furniture in Skyhold, and always congratulated me on looking terrible. Yet doing her personal mission, she stayed with me and liked me after all anyway. I suppose my character matured to shift her view slightly, too. AFter all, deciding the future of millions of lives does things to you. Might wanna listen to other people than Mr. Doom and Gloom only. ![]()
Anyway, just decided that this elven mage I made will be the canon play, and possibly completionist. SInce now I know the story and don't itch to know more anymore, I can take it slow. I play on normal difficulty with most trials on. Pissing off Solas with double disapproval might do bad. ![]()
However I was aiming to romance someone safer. Iron Bull, or Cullen.
The moment Solas grabbed my characters hand to close a rift.................... Cullen might need to start fighting for my attention. I am so totally not going to fall for the elf. Not at all!
...
I am doomed, ain't I?
With the right gear and skills, Blackwall never dies. Well, maybe not never, but he's reliable.
yeah, i've been leaning towards blackwall since I've never taken him along before ... ever. Also that one comment about Solas banging spirits in the fade XD Pure gold. Oh Solas, you kinky fade nerd

I tried to tell myself I'd romance Cullen this one time. But nope. I was too weak. Right when he starts talking about the wonders of the fade i'm already too far gone.
I would make a human. That's what I had to do to romance Cullen. It forces you to keep off Solas.
One thing that does bother me though is ... what's wrong with human chicks?? As a human (lol obviously) female myself, I like to think that I'm attractive (kinda). It's not like elves are that much different. I mean I get that his people are the ancient elves blah blah but ... it just bothers me sometimes. We're not super short and we don't have crazy horns or are twice his size. Humans are physically just like elves, just more curvy/robust, especially the females.
What's wrong with us?? Are we not "fadey" enough?? ![]()
Does anyone remember the banter between Varric and Solas about reuniting Orzammar and Kal-Sharok? Where Solas says "how can you be happy surrendering, knowing it will all end with you? How can you not fight?"
Like, wow. Whole new perspective on that line.
I feel like I can say that for almost every line where Solas is involved. I want to re-listen to his entire banter eventually, but still too soon.
I wrote another silly Solavellan post-Tresspasser banter snip. (It has Tresspasser spoilers, obviously... I think?)

Ugh, I didn't have that happen to me on my first play through, granted I knew she hated me and I didn't want to talk to her after she insulted my appearance. She was only used for war time missions, but after I heard that she would do that and that the Inquisitor couldn't do anything about it, like I don't know, fire her. You are the leader of the Inquisition, are you not? She joined the Inquisition, so then aren't you her boss. So why can't you kick her out? Ugh, I hate that she has plot armor and it ruins the immersion if I'm playing an I don't take BS Inquisitor. Weak Bioware, weak. So I either don't recruit her or I purposely avoid that mage in Val Royeaux. I don't do plot and dialogue armor characters. With Solas you can punch him in the face, but you can't do anything to the Iron Lady?! Why Bioware, why? Worst of all it makes the Inquisitor look like a weak leader. If you let you're subordinates walk all over you, then you are not a leader. Its just ![]()

Solas in Antaam-Saar
Solas in Shokra-taar
My daughter just walked in.
Daughter: "Mom, I thought your obsession with Solas was over after the DLC."
Me: "sadly no, I think it made it worse."
Daughter: "You realize there is not going to be a happy ending. You've had your heart ripped out with the base game. Then the DLC stomped on it, what next, go down in a ball of fire?"
Me: "Probably but I like playing with fire."
Daughter: "Remember that when I turn 16"
ME: "Muttered curses under her breath" as my daughter flips her hair and sashays out of the room

Hello Solas thread!! I'm a long time lurker, but I was hoping someone could help me out. And hopefully it's not considered off topic; I mean it's kind of Solas related? And I like the lore hounds in this thread. You guys have some great stuff!
I'll put it under a spoiler tag since it kind of involves information revealed by Trespasser.

And sorry if this has already been brought up and/or repeated! It's a big thread...

Hahaha, I think the obvious answer is that what makes elves special is not physical. ![]()
In fact, if you meet a Kieran with the soul of an Old God, when he says, "Mother didn't tell me the Inquisitor would be an elf," if you joke, "Did the ears give me away?" he'll say, "No, your blood is ancient. I saw it right away." So clearly, body structure has little to nothing to do it with.
In fact, when Solas compliments a romanced Inquisitor, he always mentions that you have a beautiful mind or spirit ("You show a great wisdom, a subtly in your action..." "You have a marvelous spirit"); never your physical beauty. I doubt that's a factor.
Besides, it sounds humans really aren't "fadey" enough, because it sounds like elves used to be intrinsically tied to the Fade in ways that no other mortals are; so much so that being cut off from it severed a "collective consciousness," and caused them to lose touch with their magic, and to grow old, weaken, sicken, and die. It sounds like a collapsed Veil will restore that immortality and magic to the elves, while a collapsed Veil would not have such a great impact for humans or any other race.
There's probably also the matter of shared cultural and historical heritage, and other things. I personally have a hard time playing an elf who doesn't want to romance another elf, not because of racism or racial superiority or anything like that, but sometimes it's just nice to be with someone with similar life experiences, cultural values, worldviews, etc. As Solas himself notes, it can be calming to be in the presence of someone with traits similar to our own.
I thought this summed up what I've been feeling the last few days.

In a way, I guess it's like sexual orientation. He just isn't attracted to anyone who isn't, as you put it, intrinsically connected to the fade.
It's always been difficult for me to understand sexual preferences and why some people are only attracted to females and not males etc. because I'm a bisexual (most would consider me pan if that helps in understanding me better). Gender and other things don't play into attraction for me, and it is almost usually the personality, or as Solas would put it, their "spirit."
If solas was a woman I would be totally crazy about him just the same. If he was a Qunari, dwarf, or who knows what, I still wouldn't care.
I guess Solas must believe that being elven effects the spirit directly. The implications of that ... are pretty huge, if you think about it.
Ooh, Evanescence! Yeah, I've been in an Evanescence mood myself.
It just has that edge to it, I guess I need it. Bring Me to Life is another good one, but then I like most of their first album.

Let me counter with this part from The Only One then:
Don't look down
Don't look into the eyes of the world beneath you
Don't look down, you'll fall down
You'll become their sacrifice
Right or wrong,
Can't hold on the feel that I'm lost without you
If I can't feel, I'm not mine
I'm not real
