That emissary took me at least an hour. it was horrible. dispel is practically useless for the entire game until you get to this boss. cory took me five minutes and samson took me even shorter. Descent could honestly prevent me from ever playing the game on nightmare.
For my Cadash DW Artificer, it took me about 2 or 3 hours to finally best that fight on Nightmare, because I stubbornly refuse to use revival spells or healing mists, so everytime any party members fall I restarted the fight from the beginning.
Finally managed to nail it with Blackwall as my near-immortal tank taking all the aggro, Dorian and Solas providing covering fire, crowd control and barriers, leaving my rogue to be main DPS damage dealer, spamming throwing knives and elemental mines, as well as Aegis of the Rift to keep himself and the mages alive.
(Yeah, by the mid-to-endgame, my Cadash gave up using his daggers in close-quarters to instead throw knives and bombs from mid-range)
As for the end boss of Descent, I actually ended up finding it easier with no tank whatsoever, I just used Sera, Dorian and Solas, attacked it from range and used both fade step, evade and lightning flask to avoid it's "arms".
