The more I think about it the more I think Trespasser confirms that the Blight is ether Earth's defense system or something that was a weapon or powerful being of some sort, but got corrupted, and now is a concentration of really bad emotions and dreams of destruction.

 

The codexes in Trespasser and Cole's comments do seem to imply that Evanuris/elves were, at some point, either invaders or a side in a war, that have claimed Earth as their domain (or their 'right').

 

Solas once said (to spirit of Command) that the physical body is both a shackle and a strength - so it does appear that having a physical form makes one more powerful - in some way - than just being a pure Fade/spiritual being, hence Evanuris sought to claim it and then strengthened the claim over earth by making it - and by extension Titans connected to it - forget things (Cole says "They made bodies from the earth and the earth was afraid. It ought back, but they made it forget." and "Songs screaming far away. It wants to wake up, but can't remember how. No one should be here.").

 

I think whatever they've forced to fall asleep and forget is getting really, REALLY angry...

*Blinks* The Blight as an embodiment of a pulsion for destruction and chaos? We know it acts like a living organism already, or a virus. It could almost be considered a demon in its most primitive form. Makes you wonder if there's a "spirit" or force for creation somewhere...

Omg I finally caught up today.....whew......out of breath....er, mind breath...whatever.

 

I had a few thought things in regards to some of the discussion about elvezzzzzzz

So, if we go with the idea that original elves were actually spirits who took a physical form I have some question things that pop into my head.

 

First, surely there must have been elves that were born physically back before the Veil right? Because the elves continued on as a race. I mean, I could see the Evanuris using some form of birthcontrol policies or whatever to keep their slaves under control. Heck, they may have even bred slaves purposefully or assigned mates like the Qun does for all we know. But do you think this would have made a big difference in how an elf was viewed back in Elvhenan? Physically born vs Spirit Born.

 

Another thought along these lines goes to Sylaise who is credited with teaching how to ease infants into the world or something like that. Almost makes me wonder if this isn't really dealing with physical birth. Sylaise may have very well had some sort of mass bring spirits into the world process she was known for.

 

I have more thoughts....I think, but I need more coffee.....

I think there is, either some sort of creative force, or something that drives the life that might have emerged in primordial 'soup' to concentrate and shape itself (is that the Maker?) and eventually shape the world around them.

 

I think that Earth and Sun/sky were likely the very first and most powerful beings - and they've created many things between them. Dragons, Titans, etc... However, the elves - or more like Evanuris, that were implied by Solas to be "first of his people" - eventually disrupted the delicate balance and their actions led to either creating the Blight or corrupting something... Or perhaps there was another entity aside from Earth and Sun (the Void?) that is either as ancient or maybe even older than Sun/Earth... and whatever the Evanuris did caused it to wake up from its eternal slumber and threaten the existence of all life.

 

Cole does imply after all that Solas "broke the dreams to stop the old dreams from waking".

Redemption+Solas+Life.

If you're not sick of my optimism yet...

As a side note, my ALL time favorite stories are ones with redemption themes, so I'm pumped for DA4. 

 

Again, I'm building on some older posts of my own and those posted by others when I say, death might be kinda' boring for Solas. Redemption is when we fully embrace the consequences of our actions and try to right them no matter what the cost. Sometimes the cost is life, sometimes it's self image, sometimes it's a peaceful life of contentment, sometimes it's loved ones, sometimes it's everything we believe and know about ourselves, etc... I love this stuff guys and what I know is that stories where the redeeming means living to face our demons are powerful. In my mind, I'm comparing Andy Dufresne's ending (Shawshank) to Darth Vader's death and seriously....Andy made me weep like a 5 year old because it was deeeeeeeeep.  

 

This is why I think "death'" is too easy. I recall movies/books like Shawshank Redemption, Atonement, The Kite Runner, Les Miserables, To Kill a Mockingbird and can't help but dream of the possibilities here. In these stories the redeemed don't change through a sacrificial death. The depth, tragedy and triumph are realized through an internal and external struggle that might have no real end. When I recall the end of Kite Runner (the book) I can't help but marvel at the 180 the main character takes and how even at the end it's soooooo far from perfect. Yet he's finally found his inner strength and belief in himself and can face the consequences. 

 

So, I'm sooooooooooooooo deep in the optimism camp guys. Meaning, I believe Solas can be saved but his life after he gives up his version of his mission will be very difficult. Forcing him to face that reality and choosing to climb the impossible mountain is what I want. That 's deep deep stuff for Solas and he's written to be 100 percent capable of walking the hardest path. If he accepts his mistakes and somehow rebuilds the world It would be his true self realization and salvation for the elves. He is the leader to guide them out of their current state of subjugation. There is no other.

I totally agree with this. That's exactly what I/we need right now. O P T I M I S M ! Always with Team Optimism . Solas is so so sad and I would love to see him happy and without the burden of guilt. And I truly believe that we can bring him on the right path.  I want to see him happy, laughing, joking, with friends around... Lavellan and Cole can do it *fingers crossed*. I mean, Trespasser really affected me, I cannot concentrate at work, my colleagues are asking me things and I am like " what ?" because I'm daydreaming, my bf keeps telling me that I'm crazy because I talk and think continuously at Solas. I'm acting weird lately . And I have never been so affected by a game/movie/book character. I can read stuff about Solas and watch videos, gif, pics of him all day long, can't get enough of him. 

 

So, your comment warms my heart.  Thank you for your  optimism!

Thanks, yeah!! Maybe I only got it because I played a male Lavellan (although seems race doesn't matter). Seems the mod opened up romance dialogue but also let some of the friendship dialogue stay.

 

EDIT: Sorry if I confused anyone! Good to know it's not romance-specific because it's really a wonderful dialog sequence!

I think of it like this...

The elves of Arlathan were like wolves.

 

The elves of the Dales were like wolf-dog hybrids, or maybe some of the wolf-like breeds like Spitz. A shadow of before but still closer than the elves of today. At least in Halamshiral they had an empire of sorts with nobles, lords, knights, generals, high priests, and were able to last against humans in a war for at least a while.

 

The elves of today are literally weak and hamstrung like a poorly bred toy breed.

Oh, fellow Solas lovers, I am sure this has been discussed ad nauseum here, but if anyone wants to give a brief run-down or point me to a post/discussion so you don't have to repeat yourselves...

But why are the elves disappearing and helping Solas? Are they not also mortal, and so will die when he destroys the Veil? And if so, just who is Solas destroying the Veil FOR if all his people (save the Evanuris) are dead?

 

Anyone else upset that they didn't have the chance, as a Lavellan, to offer their support? I'm not sure my Alin would have taken it, but it would have been nice to have the option. I bet some Lavellans would have taken it.
