So much hate for Solas in other parts of the BSN.

I mean...to be fair...he is trying to kill everybody most definitely everyone is not an elf. 

 

I personally only find him sexier(also didn't hurt that they clearly gave him some plastic surgery...if anyone else noticed his cheeks and eyes are a bit better).  

 

I think these people need to just embrace the pain!

 Quoting you since you'r the last person to mention it, but I do want to clarify that Arlathven is when ALL clans and their members gather to meet, not just Keepers and Firsts.  The actual place of meeting is likely pre-decided at the end of each Arlathven, rather than sending out messenger birds or using whatever the Dalish equivalent of sending crystals are.

 

Given that even loads of city elves are leaving, not just Dalish, it's likely not an Arlathven or even an "emergency" one, especially since most Dalish clans don't actually keep in contact or know where another is by choice.

I think Solas is using Mythal to reach out to elves in their dreams and giving them directions.  Every elf - even a city elf - would know the myth that Mythal and the Creators are returning to save them.  Solas is probably just posing as her agent.  

 

I think that is the most plausible thing that is happening. That also explains Sera's concern - the elves seem happy.

My only eyeroll about people truly hating Solas is that without conflict, you have no story. And if you're going to have a story, you might as well have a good one, with lots of feelings and emotions tangled up within it. If you take what a character does as personal against you in the real world, might be time to step back and consider WTF you're playing a game/reading a book/watching a movie for.

 

But then I like a good story where there's some suffering thrown in. Providing it isn't suffering all the way down. Work for that happy/bittersweet ending, yo.

Im cool with people hating Solas if they have an argument to back it  up or they are just turned off by his character.  I'm down. 

 

Everybody loves Anders and I just found him horribly insufferable and wanted to kill him in the first Act.  But I'm not wandering around berating people trying to support the writing or why he's worth enjoying as a character.   

 

But Solas is a well written and complex character.  Depending on how the next game goes and Bioware does not follow the tradition of dropping the ball with their antagonists, he may actually be my favorite(and that's definitely without the romance).  There is so much to pick apart about his character. A lot to love. A lot to hate.  I hope people actually see that at least.

Totally agree. Dream-Mythal is comforting and kind, for one. When has Flemythal ever been anything of the sort? Even to Sandal she was a scary lady. We KNOW Solas was likely recruiting and putting together more of his Cerberus organization while Inquisition was taking place. He had a year before that to wake any ancient elf agents, and analyze the current power structures of modern Thedas. 

Solas doesn't even have to outright lie to get city elves (like that one talking about the dream in Val Royoux) to join his cause. He can plausibly say that Mythal would appreciate their assistance in making things better for the elves, and that she (and her agents) have a plan to bring back the glory of the elves and remove them from servitude from humans.

Woot...got a random PM from a friend asking me to explain who Fen'Harel is. He has never played a Dragon Age game before. After spoilering him big time and telling him everything there is to know about Solas (that we know, anyway) for the past hour..he wants to play. He thinks Solas sounds awesome. Of course I recommend he play a female elf and romance him...without telling him about the breakup.  Won't he be surprised..  :-P

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the whole "Mythal appears in my dreams" servant thing happens after the Cory fight? Because I heard that it happens after Temple Of Mythal and not only after the ending.

 

If it happened after ToM and not the ending, then I'd say that we should be wondering whether it was indeed Solas who's sending the signal to unite. It may as well have something to do with the whole watery figure emerging after the Well Of Sorrows was emptied, either by Morrigan or Inquisitor. 

 

I mean, it MIGHT still have something to do with Solas, since - when asked for advice - he says "She (Morrigan) is right of only one thing - we should be taking the power that lies in the Well".

 

So despite being conflicted as to who should take it (he either distrusted both Morrigan and Inquisitor OR distrusted Morrigan, but was concerned for Inquisitor) he was eager to do it anyhow, instead of destroying it. I think it's because he wanted to unlock the power which lied BENEATH the Well.

if elves were spirits before the veil, and this becomes common knowledge whilst Solas puts his plans in place - if Solas fails, won't there be a huge chance of a violent backlash against elves? Likely, many people will argue they're descended from demons, they're the hated children of the maker, and they follow false gods without hesitation. I can imagine people suddenly having no trust in elves - not like they had much before - but they'll look at every poor, hopeless city elf and see a potential traitor, a spy, an evil spirit, an abomination. Even Leliana's "radical" chantry could not avoid condemnation.

 

I'm afraid some groups - particularly templars, who are almost exclusively human - might attempt genocide. Like, actual genocide, based on racial hatred and fear. Pitchforks and arson attacks and mass killings if they refuse to covert and forced expulsions from their alienages, forcing them out of their home with nothing but the clothes on their back. Regardless of their role in Fen'Harel's uprising - and I imagine most won't be involved in that. Because DEMONS.

 

If Solas fails, he could inadvertently destroy all the elves he wants to save, for real.

Mythal is neck deep into this whole thing, and like some others here, I can't help but feel she has her own agenda and Solas is only another one of her pawns.

I'm completely in agreement. She said as much during her last meeting with Solas. I think she'll possibly be the big bad for DA5, after Solas.

 

I think she's definitely closer to Solas than the other Evanuris. Some people have theorised that the blight was due to Mythal killing titans, or Andruil hunting in the void - the ancient elves discovered it, and suffered greatly from it - and that the blight has subsequently been used as a tool by the Evanuris to destroy the world and weaken the veil enough so that they can escape. If that's the case - that the Evanuris are responsible - then that puts Flemeth's actions in DA:O into a new light; she has a very strong motive for helping the Wardens, especially in her weak, fragmented form as Flemythal, as if the Evanuris did escape, she could not defeat or control them.

 

I think even if we win over Solas - which we can, I think - we'll still have to contend with Flemeth/Mythal, who's pretty ruthless and relatively unswayed by others' pleas for help, and has no sort of exploitable personal connections to anyone but her daughter (unless Morrigan ends up taking her soul after all).

I never cared for Anders, but exactly, I'm not telling people who want to defend the character that there's something wrong with them. Anders had a place in the story, and his own story was interesting to follow to its end even if his personality didn't do it for me. Others may not find Solas as complex, or as interesting and tragic as I do, but I'll be damned if they're going to tell anyone who thinks he is that they are stupid or are a Nazi-loving genocidal crazy. It's a story, folks. We want to follow it and see where it goes. We also happen to like the character that's leading the way. There is nothing wrong with that, or us, any more than there's anything wrong with people who don't like the character of Solas. It's only when one side or another twists their panties in a personal tizzy over it that it gets irritating.

 

You don't have to like him, and you don't have to hate him. You can even outright love him. You just don't get to be a dick to those on the other side of the divide.
