The quest "All New, Faded For Her". Now Cole mentions this again in the Crossroads, and probably for 2 reasons; 1) To remind us of the anagram of who Solas actually is and 2) Solas was giving us a real example of what happened to him a long time ago.

Not only is the name of the quest an anagram but the location is one as well; Enavuris River. Switch the letters around and we have Evanuris. Also, if you look across the river from that location, you can see that giant wolf statue on the hill. Another clue!

 

 

Solas: My friend is a spirit of Wisdom. Unlike the spirits clamoring to enter our world through the Rifts, it was dwelling quite happily in the Fade. It was summoned against it's will, and wants my help to gain its freedom and return to the Fade.

 

- He's talking about himself.The Evanuris summoned him.

 

Quiz: I thought spirits wanted to find their way into this world.

 

Solas: Some of them do certainly, just as many Orlesian peasants wish they could journey to exotic Rivain. But not everyone wants to go to Rivain.

Rivain is a metaphor for taking a body (form) and roaming Thedas. In Trespasser, Cole says "He did not want a body, but she asked him to come. He left a scar when he burned her off his face."

 

Solas: My friend is an explorer, seeking lost wisdom and reflecting it. It would happily discuss philosophy with you, but it had no wish to come here physically.

 

Quiz: Do you have idea what the mages want with your friend?

 

(aka: Why did the Evanuris summon you?)

 

Solas: No. It knows a great deal of lore and history, but a mage could learn that simply by speaking to it in the Fade. It is possible that they seek information it does not wish to give and intend to torture it.

 

- The Evanuris summoned Solas and tortured him for information. But for what?

 

Interesting theory. Not sure that it's a "word-for-word" account of what happened to him, but I could see parallels.

I know in the scene itself we just kinda sat there and watched him walk away without any expression, but in my head Tiger was desperately reaching out after him. I hope he heard her mournfully calling his name as he stepped through that mirror. And, since I'm feelin spiteful on behalf of my sad little Lavellan, I hope it haunts him in his sleep and follows him everywhere, every time he goes through another mirror and she isn't there.

It's a good thing Tiger had Cass, Cole and Dorian wither her at the end. I imagine only they could have brought her back from the brink of despair. Each in their own special sort of way, of course.

Ma'alin finds there are more questions than answers when it comes to Solas. Solas finds himself curious and intrigued with her reserved nature and quiet, mischievous smile. What he finds, the woman he discovers, challenges him and leaves him wanting more, daring to hope, considering a world where they could all be real like her, and discovering their lives are more intertwined than he could have ever imagined.

Is it fate or is it coincidence? One can never tell.

So......I was sitting around thinking about "Well, what would my Lavellan do after figuring out how to have a sweet arcane warrior spirit arm?" And I thought...I know, she starts going around exploring elvhen ruins trying to piece together any information she can about Solas and the Evanuris in order to figure out the new question of "How does one stop an ancient powerful elf who can roll his eyes and turn people into stone and completely alter the very fabric of space and time?"

 

Then I was like...OOoOoooOooo, interesting little crazy thing that could happen could be Lavellan taking that time travel amulet Alexius made and seeing if she could travel back to ancient times to learn some crazy useful information. Because why not at this point right? I mean, we figure this stuff out or the world ends, so what is there to lose really?

 

Then I was thinking all like....what if my Lavellan got caught? Because she wouldn't want to run into Solas....that could cause problems if he found out that she does a little time hop in order to figure out how to stop him in the future.

 

Then I thought, "Oh crap, what if she got caught? Without vallaslin?" I mean, I imagine that if Solas could remove them...the Evanuris probably had spells to make them show back up to see who a slave belonged to.

 

Then this leads to my Lavellan being put into the hands of June.

 

And every single ancient elf we have seen so far is hot.

 

And what if June turned out to be a pretty nice guy. Like yeah...he has slaves, but he treats them well or something. Not justifying slavery...just stating in perspective like how Dorian explains slavery in Tevinter.

 

And come on, Lavellan would be this super cute little anomaly that just showed up in his world. I mean, if she can draw the attention of one ancient elven god, why wouldn't it happen with another?

 

My Lavellan is doomed in every single situation I theorize. I SUCK at headcanon. Officially.

 

Well you totally lost me after that part. Not cute on my end. Only time I greatly disagreed with Dorian and that type of mentality about slavery. 

I think I've read a similar fanfic that turned out to be fantastic, specially the time travel part. Lavellan travels to the past meets ancient Elves, party ensues.

Hey I had the same situation!  I was luckily using a cold staff, but mostly fire spells ><  It fell through an effing HOLE IN THE FLOOR.  Everyone dead but me.  Eventually I fade stepped over to resurrect IB, and some effing luck he knocked it dead.  I was so frustrated I was almost in tears.  My last save was too far back, I had already been fighting the thing almost 30 mins.  Yeah, totally feel your pain. 

 

This is from when I figured out finally where it was.  My party was standing against a wall and wouldn't fight anything else and I didn't know wtf was going on.  I had sent IB down first to I dunno try and get it outta there, but he died ><

I did the DLC post game, no Solas.  Next time I am doing it before the end of the game, lol.  Dorian is amazeballs and I love him.  But for some reason Solas makes a difference.

 

 

He almost fell for me! He was on the edge through the entire last part of the battle, as said, his loot was there and I died tried to get it.

Valta and Renn kept pushing him back towards the edge.

Just finished a playthrough of Trespasser with my elvhen inquisitor. Nice to see that Solas still visits Lavellan in her dreams in wolf form. And that parting kiss of theirs... such a tragic relationship.

So a little story has spun from this accidental scene of mine during a Cinematic Tools photoshoot of my Lavellan and comments to the picture on Nexus... I thought I'd share it with all of you for a little humor and although the post might be better suited for the Cullen thread, my Lavellans are always romancing Solas. Always.

So:

IB got Cullen senselessly drunk after a game of Wicked Grace in the early hours of the morning. He wandered his ass into the gardens where Lavellan was playing a game of chess with Dorian and proceeded to attempt at flirting with her. Very unsuccessfully, might I add, to much amusement for both Dorian and Lavellan until he contracted a bad case of wandering hands (Ain't no one but Solas who gets to grab). She ultimately solved the whole situation with a very firm punch to the face, knocking our dear Cullen the floor and the picture below of the moment after speaks for itself xD

Depends on class though. If you are a mage, you need to be an knight enchanter to get the full scene.

 

What?  Really?  Dammit, I was a Rift Mage.

 

Oh, that sounds so perfect! 

 

This will be great; I always choose every knowledge perk that I can first thing, and right now I have every knowledge perk except "underground" (although I had to use "forward scouts" perk to find logging stands and quarries to fix up Skyhold), so this will be perfect.

And yes, I LOVED putting every knowledge perk to good use for the Iron Bull and the Chargers in Trespasser. I think the icing on the cake has to be how it takes you forever to finally run out of topics to bore him to tears with, only for Bull to casually reveal that he knew all along, and the Inquisitor glares when she realizes that he just subjected her to the longest, most awkward one-sided conversation for nothing.

I think he's giving you the chance to make you (and the Chargers) think you've pulled the wool over his eye. He only tells you that he knew when you actually gave up, after all.

So one has to lie to her and pander to her close-mindedness  to get her to mature in the DLC. Bioware seems to like counterintuitive choices

As others have said it's possible to get her approval high without comprimsing your playthrough. It just takes a bit of work. I even posted my guide of how to get her approval at max a few pages ago.

If he is, that would explain so much. And be really interesting.

 

I think this would explain one of Cole's random, cryptic comments in Skyhold, where he mentions a being who "walks between both worlds. He calls himself pride."

 

It's also interesting how Solas describes himself when he reveals his true identity. If you ask him if he's a wisp like Mythal, he says something like, "I was Solas first. Fen'Harel came later. I am nothing but what I am." But notice he doesn't say he was born an elf, or he was called Solas first (by his parents or something). He certainly wouldn't call himself pride when he was born, as most of us are too young when we're born to choose our own names.

 

If it turned out he was a Wisdom or Pride spirit who was made real... that would explain it.

 

Haha, can you imagine some Lavellans' reactions to learning that? What would your Lavellan's reaction be?

 

I imagine my Lavellan's reaction would be something like, "First I thought you were a humble apostate, and then you were a god, and then you were one of the ancient elves, and now you're a spirit made flesh... *sigh* Any other surprises?"

I think whatever he's planning to do will destroy him - he'll either become corrupted, he'll forget about himself or he'll turn himself into Tranquil at the end of it.

Yeah but like...he is a person. Cole if made a human. Is a human. He has the same flaws. Same motivators. Solas is "human" so to speak. He is NO different...mostly. But he's less weird than some of the human characters we've met.  

 

I like the way DAI makes us really challange everything we've been told about spirits and demons in the lore prior to this game.

Outside can be a bit empty when you have put them all on ignore 

whaaat. It's been 10 months since the game came out. I can only stand to see the same moaning for so long.

 

 

My Lavellan can't kill them either. She hates killing any animal unless they attack her first. So..I also never got that. She also won't kill the Wyvren for Vivienne.

 

When I walk into a game. Everything dies.

EVERYTHING.

Not even intentionally either. When I had my Archer hooked up with a bow that caused explosions there were bits of Fennec all over the Hissing Wastes.

They just kept getting in the way...

 

Plus I killed all the dragons in the days before you could just buy all their crafting material. Sorry dragons, but Nightmare mode requires an outfit made from your bits. 

 

 

 

Yesterday when I woke up the first thing I did was pick up my phone and watch that Trespasser scene again 

Let's see if I can get through today without watching it. I hope so, because I'm having weird dreams, and not just the crafting ones inspired by TW3.

I had one that saw Dorian cheat on my Inquisitor. So he lobbed his crystal into the sea, hunted down Solas and when he found him just went:

"I'm in."

Has it ever been explained why Solas woke up when he did? Was it a person or events that awakened him? This is a bit of missing information that might explain his urgency in trespasser. (more in spoilers)

I'm still hoping that he's not as much of a monster as his plans in trespasser make him sound. We just don't have enough information to understand his motivations. What we do know is that he doesn't consider most of the denizens of modern Thedas as people; they are more like tranquil as they are missing some critical connection to the fade caused by the veil. He wants to 'fix' Thedas by bringing down the veil; unfortunately, this results in the death of the 'non-people'. Based on this info alone my inquisitor will try to stop him as she doesn't agree with his assessment of the people of Thedas.


But, is there something else going on that we don't know about? Is there a problem with the veil that will destroy the world anyway if he doesn't put his plans into action? Why is he so insistent that time is running out? Is he setting the clock or is something else dictating the time he has left? Did he awaken when he did because he sensed that the world was about to be destroyed, including his people, without his intervention? Or did he simply awaken when he did because of the mage/templar conflict and decided that this world was irredeemable?


If he's trying to save at least a part of the world from an even worse catastrophe and simply doesn't know of a way to spare the current people of Thedas, my qualms about his sanity and morality will be calmed. I can even get on board with looking for a new way to save the world. And, if it's true, that this world is doomed no matter what, she might get on board with Solas' plan. Thoughts?

Solas says that the thing the Evanuris did that was going too far was killing Mythal, "a crime for which an eternity of punishment was only fitting". That's a bit worrying because for me that list includes the Hero of Ferelden and Solas himself. Here's hoping he doesn't haves some sort of elaborate revenge/suicide planned.

the archdemons. He has a major freakout about the Wardens' plans to find and kill the last two. If his plan is on a "has to be completed before the last archdemon dies" timer, he's dangerously close to the end of that timer.

It would make sense if there's something more going on with the taint. But even if there isn't, a world with no archdemons is likely pretty hellish. Following the calling keeps most darkspawn underground except during a blight. When that calling goes silent, wouldn't they all surface? So even if there's no new lore about the taint, he'd want to remake the world before that happens, to avoid the suffering of countless innocents.

(that said, there probably is something more going on with the taint)
