I think the hope there was in Briala, but again, I think Gaspard is just worse on multiple levels.

Not in his mind, he feels that him becoming ruler is the best thing for his country. Celene refuses because feelings.
For a monarch wants do not come into it, I doubt he would have wanted to get together with her either, but he is willing to compromise for Orlais. When she refuses she forces his hand. What's worse is that she refused to marry the guy who was working with Gaspard too, she could have crippled Gaspard with that move and avoided a civil war that way.

Well, this is a familiar trend. Anyone else reminded of a certain egghead who "didn't want" to do a bunch of horrible things, and did them anyway for the good of his people?
IMO Celene was the least likeable of the characters in Masked Empire, but I did find her interesting. And unfortunately, if you want to help the elves but DON'T want to set a precedent for assassination as a means of advancement, reconciling Celene and Briala is the only option.
Anyone knows if Masked Empire exist as an audiobook?

Yeah, it helped to play that mission before reading the book because game characters had already settled in my head by the time I learnt more about them from the book. So I thought she was ok, nothing too amazing and nothing too annoying for me.

I read afterward so Briala's voice didn't make any difference but maybe it would've bugged me had I read the book beforehand. Fiona was kind of mishandled/underwritten in the game. I love Fiona, but I feel like they didn't do entirely right by her.
Spend 3hs playing Mass Effect now im back to DA:I , the game is not bad and ill finish it but after dragon age it feels..... but i had a good laugh on your first mission you save some ppl and there is a girl saying - Thanks the maker ... i was like WTF
