Until the Inquisition is no longer strong enough to blackmail you.  Not sure how it'll suss out since it wasn't addressed in the epilogues, but I'd think you pretty much HAVE to keep the Inquisition around at the end of Trespasser to have any hope of enforcing that threat.  Same situation if you went for Gaspard + Briala; Briala's clever and tough, but she's lost the eluvians, and I don't think she'd last long without Inquisition backing.

Yeah, that option was too good to be true.  There are now too many people to influence in that triumvirate.  Gaspard is actually my canon now.   I see Briala being pulled in by Solas - likely backing out dramatically after she finds out what happened to Fellassan.  20 bucks she ends up dead by him in the next game.

I don't think he'd kill Briala unless he had to, or she started causing trouble for him.  He took the eluvians back without harming her, after all, and that was what he really wanted from Felassan. 

 

Of course, given the opportunity, my Lavellan would totally try to get Briala on Team "Be a Pain in Solas's Ass."  So that might not end well

Spend 3hs playing Mass Effect now im back to DA:I , the game is not bad and ill finish it but after dragon age it feels..... but i had a good laugh on your first mission you save some ppl and there is a girl saying - Thanks the maker ... i was like WTF

 

The Mass Effect feels get pretty real too.

Briala + Celene is too good to be true (also, puts love ahead of political change, I reckon Briala would make too many bad compromises there). Briala influencing Gaspard would probably have trouble with Fen'Harel - Briala would either side with him (BAD NEWS) or struggle keeping her forces together/fighting infiltration, likely leading to a very weak Orlais overall. Which is a shame, I loved Briala in TME.

I prefer Gaspard to Celene personally, even if Gaspard's imperialism makes me pause (Loghain influenced me on that count, I think). I also think Gaspard would be the better ruler at the time of crisis - and militarily, would be able to hold off the "elven threat" much better.

Thing is, I love shaming Florianne publically in front of the court, it's just a shame Celene always lives in that case (can't someone axe her when nobody's looking?). Gaspard also comes across as politically inept in Wicked Hearts, which put me off too. So, Gaspard is probably my least favourite outcome to play, even if it's one of the better ones.

Trespasser changes everything, ugh.

I think Trespasser will force me to chance my Orlais canon. Briala + Celene is too good to be true (also, puts love ahead of political change, I reckon Briala would make too many bad compromises there). As interesting as I found Masked Empire, I had a hard time sympathizing with its characters, and of course the only one I really loved (Felassan) ate it.  Stupid Solas.  Asunder had less to do with the plotline of DA:I, but I was feeling all the feels over its cast.

This is true.  TBH - I don't think there is a win win there.  And I agree, I think Orlais may fall.  Because you may be focusing all your attentions on Tevinter, whose central government seems to be going through an overhaul, you have people there that want to change it and make it better AND stay. So Tevinter goes through its own redemption arc so to speak. I think Orlais may be a lost cause.  Also I may really just hate Orlais so don't really care.

The reason the Exalted Council was summoned was precisely because nobody knew what to do with Inquisition, that was no longer needed in time dedicated more on rebuilding than fighting. Even Solas says that after neutralizing the Qunari plot Orlais and Ferelden should get a few years of relative peace.

 

So... do we really want Gaspard to ruin this relative peace for everyone with his warmongering and lack of patience for the Game, that will ALWAYS exist in some capacity (Solas said in WEWH that the powerful were always the same - only masks change)?

 

Or what about fighting with Nevarra (whoa, what would happen if Cassandra is Divine, I wonder?) or worse - secretly siding with Qunari in order to further weaken Tevinter (there are world states in which it's implied that the Qun contacted leaders of the South to ally against Tevinter), exactly when we're trying to find allies in that part of the world?

I dislike people parroting a version of honor they will stick to unto death, but is at best a questionable view of the term. Mostly because they decided what they liked and would/would not do and used "honor" as a blanket term to describe it no matter how vile or petty it is. See: Gaspard, Michel. Blackwall before he actually learned the meaning of it in the DLC.

 

It's my dearest hope that I can play Lavellan again long enough to learn what Michel has done so she could punch the ever loving **** out of him. Right before she kicks Solas in the shin.

 

I didn't like Celene much either, and it was really bitter for my Lavellan to swallow keeping her on the throne. But I think seeing the dark future where Celene is assassinated made her hesitant to allow it to happen at all, even if there was another strong candidate who could have kept things in line. Especially when you learn that Florianne was playing into the whole thing. Nope, not at all safe. And I really wish they would have used Briala better in DAI. I was so eager to see her, and then... that's all we got? Meh.

I suppose that entirely depends on how long Solas' plans take to come to fruition. If it's soon, then, "well, ****." If it's longer, you're entirely correct. But I don't think Solas is entirely working in the north - his plans are for the world, not just part of it.

I suppose, during the two years of peace, if Gaspard decides to take his expansionist plans away from Ferelden and towards Tevinter, we've inadvertently bit that country in the arse. I think Tevinter needs to stay stable - I think if it falls, Solas would definitely take advantage of the chaos, offering people freedom instead of the qun.

I also think Gaspard's open racism (as opposed to Celene's quiet, polite racism) would increase the chances of an elven witch hunt and potential genocide after Solas' plans fail.

God, Thedas is such a mess. "Can't one problem in this ****** world stay fixed?" indeed.

I'd suggest The Masked Empire or Asunder - they're closer to Inquisition's timeline and more relevant for that reason.

I played DAI before learning about the book. First playthrough I ler Celene biye it because I knew no way to spare her without banishing Briala. Second time, I imagine my girl learned of Celene purging the alienage, dropped the book in horror, cried "No! I won't help her! I won't!" Reluctantly agreed because of Corypheus, but then let her die the second she found Briala as a replacement. (Briala's "the elves have a future, for the first time in centuries" and Morrigan saying "elves everywhere toast to your name while the new emporer glowers" made it worth it. # #)

 

There is something pretty cool about Celene openly having Briala as a lover and making her the first elven noble in the Dales since the Exalted March.

I think Orlais will be find with Gaspard or Celene ruling any of the alliance options between the 3 will create a whole load of instability imo.

This too. There is something good to be said about both rulers working alone.  I think Briala - while an idealistic choice - will cause problems either by "helping"(since her definition sucks) or by just undermining their rule. 

 

My idealistic Lavellan obviously chose "LOVE PREVAILS" but I'm sort of re-working my canon and I think Gaspard is going to be it.  If I'm going to fight Solas - even if I pick the redemption option - Gaspard would be the better choice. I will not lose that fight. HE will go down with me if I have to.
