Tension is juicy.

 

It is! It is especially wonderful to write. I love to play with tension, it can be such a powerful tool in fiction. Also, it has the advantage of holding the reader's interest. With fluff, you mostly depend on that cute, sugary atmosphere and if you go overboard, you lose the reader. If you don't use enough fluff, though, they might simply leave. With tension you have a bigger area to use, you just have to be careful not to drag it out too long. Ah but I shouldn't ramble, I should write. xD

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to an opportunity to bring him back to who he was when he was in the Inquisiton - which a lot of us could agree that's when he was the happiest - but I most definitely will enjoy seeing big, bad wolf at work until then!

Somewhere in Cass' room in Skyhold is 1000 pages of tiny writing on narrow lines and it's entirely Solavellan smut of bad boy Solas and Princess Lavellan.

 

There are probably pirates in there.  Actually, Solas is probably an elven pirate mage.

 

I'm more worried about Varric's! His is in print! Somewhere, there is a huge amount of Solas/Lavellan melodrama being circulated. Maybe with names slightly changed.

When I first heard his banter with Vivienne I was delighted. I hated her from the beginning and to see her multiple times outsmarted by our beloved snarky elf... it was glorious. Also, constant bickering. Lovely.

 

This reminded me of Cassandra reading Varric's book.

'I'm Vivienne. I'm the most terrifying person you ever met'. Well, even though I just finished Tresspasser and was in quite fragile state of mind (to put it mildly) I laughed so hard I couldn't stop.

I really enjoyed the quiet nature of that romance.  It was very sweet...or just simple and nice.  

 

I find it actually more upsetting and melodramatic knowing what we know and what we see.

I'd love a tranquil companion PERIOD. That was on my Inquisition wishlist actually. Even back when game lore insisted that tranquility was permanent (just like abominations) I assumed it would be revealed to be reversible eventually (just like abominations). I like fixing messed up people. Reversing a companion's right of tranquility would be right up there with turning Shale back into a dwarf, separating Justice and Anders, and other spoilery elfy things.

I do find it difficult to imagine Solas making anyone tranquil intentionally considering what he says about the modern elves being like the tranquil. If Felassan survived as a tranquil I'd have to assume it was just because Solas was too weak to kill him.

 

I...wouldn't consider reversing the Rite of Tranquility to be "fixing messed up people." I don't know if you've read Asunder, or payed attention to Cassandra's comments about the Seeker book she gets from Lucius, but former Tranquil are wildly unstable individuals. They feel every emotion x1000, they change which emotions are felt at the drop of a hat, they have trouble focusing on one thing at a time even for short periods of time.

 

At this time, our knowledge of what reversed Tranquility means, how long this unstable period lasts, or how an individual would be able to perform/control magic is very, very limited. Would such a person be much more likely to be possessed because it would be so much easier for a demon to manipulate their emotions? Would they be able to even successfully perform spells any stronger than a cantrip? Would they even have control over how powerful a spell is due to their uninhibited emotional state? 

 

If such a person was a companion...that would be super dangerous for everyone within a 20 mile radius, and I don't know that we currently have the tools or knowledge to properly deal with someone like that safely. You'd basically be walking around with a mage with a personal Breach hovering over their shoulder. They could easily explode, spontaneously combust, or be possessed, just like normal mages within proximity of the Breach before we sealed it.

Oh, by the way, this is a few thousand pages back, but someone mentioned the red lyrium with the phial of dragon blood beside it, and something Cole says about them singing a different song, but the pieces fit (or something to that effect), and then I mentioned that all dragons dissected seem to have some Blight in them. It was bugging me that I couldn't remember the quest, but I found it when I looked back on an earlier save of mine, and the wikia helped with the rest:

 

It is obtained after completing the Emprise du Lion side quest Breeding Grounds (killing the 3 dragons there), and Frederic of Serault must be recruited as an agent. My initial assumption that it's after killing all 10 dragons was wrong, but since those 3 were the last I killed, that's probably why I assumed as much.

 

Anyway, if you pick Leliana to do the mission, this is what she brings from Frederic back:

 

"Within the carcass of the Abyssal High Dragon, we found cysts of hardened flesh. Sister Brigette, a scholar from Nevarra, said she had seen, once or twice, similar nodules in other beasts. To protect itself, the body grew a barrier around a foreign object that could not be removed.

 

Naturally, of course, we cut into the cyst. The flesh within was blighted. We immediately examined all other cysts found in the other dragon carcasses. Each time, we found the blight. The only conclusion we can draw is that dragons can stem the spread of the blight within their own bodies. They cannot do this indefinitely, as the existence of Corypheus's dragon suggests, but they are more resistant than other creatures."
