I was browsing the Google for pictures of all the epilogue slides involving what the Inquisitor does (I've only seen Solavellan and joining Red Jennys), anyway I stumbled across a quote someone made back when Trespasser first came out* and found it widely appropriate, here it is:

Oh gosh someone needs to do this! Write or draw something, I don't care, that AU is awesome. The 'Inquisition' as the new team on the horizon, featuring the Inquisitor with their glowing goalkeeper hand. But then Corykitten appears...and he doesn't play fair.

I think we all love every aspect of Solas by this point, but there is something quite sultry about the whole "demons run when a good man goes to war". >:3

So, I was thinking again about my ridiculous headcanon from yesterday....

And I realized as utterly insane as it was, I actually liked it for the potential romance and stuff because c'mon let's be real.......June was innocent. We all know it in our hearts.

But then I was like, wow, the heart break would be awful for them once Lavellan has to return to the future to try to stop Solas, but at least Lavellan could be all like "Don't worry, I'll break you out of prison and all that!" Which is cool right?

But it would only be a relatively short amount of time for my Lavellan. This scenerio leads to June suffering potentially 2000 years or more of heartache because apparently ancient elves don't get over anything. I can't imagine this would be good for an ancient beings sanity. Especially in regards to having to deal with Solas if she broke him out of prison pretty much.

My Lavellan is doing it wrong.

lmao, I can see Solas as the distraught but still forever loyal supporter of some dismal little League 2 northern team who spends every other Saturday stood shivering in the rain with his football scarf, watching his team get trounced, again, and again, and again. Sometimes they progress to the third round of the FA cup - only to get slaughtered by the premier league teams. He bonds with his fellow supporters over misery and hot pies (overpriced, even 'oop north), progressing to misery and pints afterwards. He considers - briefly - changing teams to something less painful, but then he reminds himself he actually has a soul.

 

He meets Lavellen - this sparkling little gem - at a local bar, or a café, or wherever - only to find out she's a Manchester United supporter. You can literally hear the sound of his heart breaking when she tells him this.

 

Most British football fans are like that. My Dad has been watching Birmingham City waver on the line between relegation and promotion between the the Premiership and the Championship for years, now. He knows better than to get his hopes up, but he still dilligently turns on the radio to hear the results at quarter past four every Saturday, and he's still bitterly disappointed every year with the final outcome & placement of his team. Even when they do well, he's afraid they're set up to fail and fall apart next year. I think all football fans are masochists, personally.

There's plenty of ambiguity. The arrow's only broken. That doesn't necessarily mean dead. Tranquil are broken. ( And the whole idea of them is in direct violation of the Chant but that's a discussion for a different thread)

It's not very ambiguous that Solas one the one who 'killed' Felessan. Not that his death is unambiguous. With the line we were given in Trespasser, it basically removes all doubt who was responsible - the Sad Wolf did it, no doubts there. But whether or now Felessan actually died is very ambiguous.

 

The fact that new evidence makes it obvious that Solas was the culprit, yet Weekes is still being coy about confirming it, makes me believe there's a very big possibility he's not dead.

Anyway.... I've been thinking about this line from Cole "He broke the dreams to stop the old dreams from waking. The wolf chews its leg off to escape the trap."

 

Gotta admit that at first I thought that the second sentence was about Evanuris attempting to trap Fen'Harel, but this doesn't really make sense in the context of first sentence.

 

Now I think it's more about Solas setting a trap FOR Evanuris, right before he created the Veil... But because he's LIKE Evanuris (a powerful, immortal elvhen mage), it means that he'd be inadvertently pulled into his own trap as well, unless he sacrificed an essential part of himself.

 

... Does this mean that part of himself is trapped with the Evanuris?

 

Drat, what will happen to him if it gets released?

I'm finding it a little sad that my Lavellan has to have the most mundane, everyday things to happen in order to not go into some downward spiral of heartache and messing things up, lol.

 

Adventure is not the friend of the elf.

If he was indeed mortal after the creation of the Veil, wouldn't it mean that his body would just die a few years after the ordeal, instead of laying unconscious and wandering the Fade for millenia? Or what about those elves lying in dwarven ruins near the lyrium spring? Cole says those alves aren't dead.

 

I have to admit, I wondered if Solas is mortal now, but I'm not 100% convinced he is. Abelas also didn't sound like he was mortal - he was actually wondering if perhaps uthenera awaits him "if fate is kind", which in itself suggests that he can't die (at least, not fully).

I think I'm fiercely determined to have my Lavellan be cheerful because DA:I is equally determined to make her life suck.  Before Trespasser, I was of the opinion that things aren't too bad for Lavellan compared to, say, Hawke or Shep.  Sure, her boyfriend dumps her, but everything else is fine.  After Trespasser...not so much.

Her ex-boyfriend turns up trying to destroy the world, she's dying from the weird mark and eventually loses her hand, her friends disperse, and she maybe has to give up her home of two years.  Oh, and she has to swallow another truckload of horrible revelations.  Ooof.

Actually, while we're talking about The Masked Empire, is it weird that

the only thing I can't really forgive about Solas is the possible killing of Felassan? I mean, he has done many terrible things, but they were honestly for what he thought was the greater good. Created the Veil? It was to free the elves and save the world. Wants to destroy the world? It's to restore Elvhenan and the elves. Knows he'll likely kill anyone? At least he honestly sees them as akin to Tranquil. But he KNEW Felassan was a person, an ally, even a friend, and he killed him because he dared disagree with him.

I try to see from other's pont of view, but that was... cold, even for him. I didn't want to believe Felassan's mysterious superior who likely murdered him for failing was Solas, but now... with so much evidence... I'm honestly glad my girl didn't know about that, because I think that would be the moment she stopped trying to understand and reason with him and just tell him that's monstrous. (I try to have her avoid making condemning statements, but I think that would be the point where she said he crossed the line.)

I don't know, maybe I'm weird, but that's something I have trouble reconciling about Solas right now. =(

 

I get you but I also want to say

Solas killing Best Elf while shocking, can be understandable (from a logical point of view). Solas wants to restore the world, Solas employs agents, but he doesn't employ them as Solas but as Fen'Harel. Fen'Harel is ruthless, he must be, he probably had to make hundred of difficult decisions when he brought on the elven rebellion in the days of the Elvhen Empire. In a banter with Blackwall he says "the healer has the bloodiest hands", that is valid for himself as well, especially since the goal he has set to himself is to "fix" the current state.

Solas is saddened by the fact he had to finish off Felassan, that much is evident from what Cole says, I think they put those lines there to strengthen the notion that Fen'Harel is a title, a mask, he is not Solas, but when Solas wears that mask he needs to be ruthless and as cold and calculating as he could.

Imagine you were in his (toe-less) shoes, you send an agent to gain access to the eluvians, he fails you, moreover, he betrays you, giving the eluvians to some fake-elven girl. Said agent then tries to explain his betrayal, but it's not a small betrayal, for all you care that sympathy he has for someone you barely see as a person sets your plan a couple of years back (and it did, it took him 2-3 years to get the eluvians back from Briala). You could let him go, but you are a leader with a purpose, you can't, what if he spreads his ideas to other agents? What if decides to work against you once you disagree with him about the nature of these people?

It's not a simple decision, maybe that agent is someone you would even consider a friend, but you can't just let him go.

 

We know Solas felt remorse for what he did, but he is willing to endanger millions, sacrifice himself (whether his body or mind it is unclear, but he walks the din'anshiral) and perhaps his love (and we know he much he loves Lavellan if he almost gave up on his plans for her) as Fen'Harel and he probably knows it will destroy him and possibly exterminate whatever is left that is Solas in him.
