Anyway.... I've been thinking about this line from Cole "He broke the dreams to stop the old dreams from waking. The wolf chews its leg off to escape the trap."

 

Gotta admit that at first I thought that the second sentence was about Evanuris attempting to trap Fen'Harel, but this doesn't really make sense in the context of first sentence.

 

Now I think it's more about Solas setting a trap FOR Evanuris, right before he created the Veil... But because he's LIKE Evanuris (a powerful, immortal elvhen mage), it means that he'd be inadvertently pulled into his own trap as well, unless he sacrificed an essential part of himself.

 

... Does this mean that part of himself is trapped with the Evanuris?

 

Drat, what will happen to him if it gets released?

I took that dialogue to be entirely metaphorical to Solas creating the Veil in the first place. The Evanuris (trap) confined him and his people, and how Solas had to cripple himself power wise (chewing off its leg) in order to seal away the Evanuris (escape the trap). It's totally up to interpretation though, so you could be onto something!

 

Words are turning into mush in my head at the moment, I hope I'm making sense.

We know Solas felt remorse for what he did, but he is willing to endanger millions, sacrifice himself (whether his body or mind it is unclear, but he walks the din'anshiral) and perhaps his love (and we know he much he loves Lavellan if he almost gave up on his plans for her) as Fen'Harel and he probably knows it will destroy him and possibly exterminate whatever is left that is Solas in him.

Wow.  I figured it'd be different for friend vs. romance vs. low approval, but I'm impressed.  Go BioWare animation.  Solas's sad puppy face could be weaponized.

The details they put in the animation is pretty astounding. The animation department went wild on this scene. Subtle but oh so telling. It makes the character seem almost real... alive. He feels like such a labor of love from the whole Bioware team. Like... everyone's fanning about him as much as we do.

Holy ****, I often joke about "the feeeels!" but I am seriously feeling stuff now; I'm getting that heavy-heart, plummeting stomach sensation! I didn't know there was such a difference! The scene feels so much more personal and intimate, holy frig.

 

I really must applaud the whole team involved on giving us Solasmancers something this huge. I remember there were stats given out a while back about how many players do a romance compared to the ones that don't and it was something like 40-odd percent? How many of that 40-50% romanced Solas? I know he's one of the popular ones, but damn it would have been easy to give us the same expressions as a high approval Inquisitor and the scene would have still been amazing. This... This makes it special.

I took that as the creation of the Veil, which cut off the Fade and the magic and that connection from the Evanuris and banished them, but it also hurt him too. Might be overly simplistic but he's also glad to be in the Fade physically and I don't think he made that up, even though his plan was to go there anyway. After so long, even his connection had been diminished to some degree and he's an overly powerful Rift Mage whose orb is like the Veil/Fade remote control.

If he was indeed mortal after the creation of the Veil, wouldn't it mean that his body would just die a few years after the ordeal, instead of laying unconscious and wandering the Fade for millenia? Or what about those elves lying in dwarven ruins near the lyrium spring? Cole says those alves aren't dead.

 

I have to admit, I wondered if Solas is mortal now, but I'm not 100% convinced he is. Abelas also didn't sound like he was mortal - he was actually wondering if perhaps uthenera awaits him "if fate is kind", which in itself suggests that he can't die (at least, not fully).

As far as Solas and other elves in uthenera, maybe they had to enter before too much time had passed, otherwise their connections would not take and uthenera was no longer possible after a certain date.

Thanks for sharing that post, it's nice to see the extra effort put in to make the romance a bit more special.

I haven't been able to do Trespasser again yet.  When I came back to the game after being away for so long I didn't expect all of those Solas feels to come flooding back as hard as they did.  Embarrassing confession time; I was crying so hard the moment that conversation started that sometimes everything was blurry for me through the tears.  I probably wouldn't have known the differences if they weren't pointed out to me.  T_T ugggh I am a 34 year old why am I such a baby! lol

 

I actually get a bit anxious thinking about seeing that scene again.  I think it will be difficult for me on a non-romance Inquisitor.  I'm ok, but the hellspiral is still waiting in the wings for an opportune time to strike again!  That's why I've been starting new PTs and not going far with them.  Still sorting my feelings out.  It's so silly!  Listen I had 3 games to really bond with my Shepard.  She's my fave thing ever.  Shepard means a lot to me.  The end of ME3 was really hard for me.  But it never lingered like Solas does.

I actually get a bit anxious thinking about seeing that scene again.  I think it will be difficult for me on a non-romance Inquisitor.  I'm ok, but the hellspiral is still waiting in the wings for an opportune time to strike again!  That's why I've been starting new PTs and not going far with them.  Still sorting my feelings out.  It's so silly!  Listen I had 3 games to really bond with my Shepard.  She's my fave thing ever.  Shepard means a lot to me.  The end of ME3 was really hard for me.  But it never lingered like Solas does.

There are pretty new dress mods out for PC, and the modding's relatively stable now that there will be no new patches, and I really do want to replay my Lavellan.  Then I think of all the adventure and despair and joy and heartache that's waiting for her, and I can't do it.  Still hellspiralling too hard.

 

I love my Shep, but Lavellan's stuck with me, and now I know how the people who wanted to continue with Warden or Hawke felt.  I feel like playing her and getting into her head has actually changed a bit of how I see the world, and I can't honestly say that of any other PC.

I know exactly how you feel. I've only seen it once too, through blurry eyes. I cried so hard. I'm 35..and I don't think my ex made me cry as much as Solas has..lol.

We have to take into consideration that this 40% of people are those who were actually invested in the game and have DLCs created for - from what know only a certain percent of people actually finish games they buy (AFAIK only 20-30% of those who bought Borderlands 2 actually reached the end of it).

 

So the overall percent of Solasmancers increases exponentially if we think about it, even if it isn't really that high, all things considered.

 

In any case - I think the romance itself may have become one of story's 'selling points' (people don't necessarily play fem!Lavellan and romance Solas, but most of them at least HEARD of it and may be curious about the conclusion) - after all, not every day a big RPG lets a specific protagonist romance one of the most important characters in the franchise AND a future antagonist, who may yet be Dragonage's - and Bioware's - best to the date. So IMO there's no way in hell they wouldn't try and add something special for it - or at least we very likely shouldn't be worried that they'd forget about it anytime soon.

Nice find. Really. I knew there were subtle differences but this I didn't really catch.

 

I'm pleased; so much care in such a short scene. They obviously knew this bit was a vital part of the game and that it makes a world of difference.
