First playthrough I brought Cassandra, Cole, and Solas. Second playthrough it was Cassandra, Varric, and Solas. Cole hated the ball, so I didn't want to take him back there. Cassandra hated it, too, but I trust her more than Blackwall. Bull would probably break stuff.
Cassandra hates it, but she's great there.
Her intro is one of my favorites.
Solas is just great at the ball.

Was I the only one that just hated the whole ball quest altogether?
I really dislike political drama, and fake prissy people annoy the hell out of me. I basically just wanted to punch all the npc's out, grab Briala, make her leader, and be done with it.
The only interesting part was spying on conversations. that was cool. and solas and his "heady sex and intrigue" comments. and the little dance at the end. all the rest just p*ssed me off to no end.
(also I hate the mystery genre in any format, so that could also be why)
I enjoyed it the first time through, even though I hate Orlesians and their "Game." After that it was kind of tedious and annoying. But the first time through I was so worried about timing taking away my approval that I didn't do everything I wanted to do, also.

I loved it. It's one of the best missions in the whole game, IMO. It's something completely different than the usual and it stood out. It is probably my favorite main story mission after What Pride Had Wrought.

I loved it. I thought my Lavellan wouldn't be too pleased with the posturing and pomposity, but she just sort of dropped into her sneaky element there and rocked it all the night through. A Dalish savage trolling the whole Orlesian court? Oh, yes. Yes, she did.
The Adaar I took through there was the opposite. Hated it, floundered her way around to getting an outcome of some sort. The poor dear. It was interesting that way, but nowhere near as fun as shoving the face of Orlais into their own mess.
At the time, I was disappointed we didn't get a dress or some option of clothing for the ball. But, really, as others pointed out, the military uniform made sense. Sometimes I feel like the only person who doesn't hate it. Yeah, the colors could have been better (and since the Inquisition's color is orange, maybe it could have been a neutral color or black or white with an orange sash?), but it was practical.
You're not the only one. I like the blue sash and the uniform looks red to me instead of orange. Red and blue go together. But I would have liked to have worn a dress like Morrigan's or one that showed her Dalish heritage.
My first playthrough, I brought Cassandra, Solas, and Varric. I brought Cassandra along specifically because I knew this would annoy her and so that both her and my Quizz could be annoyed together. I usually bring Varric along to places, because someone needs to record this and what better way to do so then having seen it unfold in front of you're very eyes. But now, I usually bring Varric, Iron Bull, and Solas along, just to rub our diversity and equality in those prats' faces. Plus, Iron Bull is a spy who is good reading people and might have been useful in figuring out who among the nobles was an assassin, sadly it didn't play out that way.
Idk I'm just really not into pomposity, especially when it has to do with politics. The whole concept of Orlesian politics just gets on my nerves. Like, the country is a mess and all people are doing is dancing and murdering and it's just ..... like just fix the freaking country already =3= this isn't Mean Girls
What I did really like was the mythal temple quest. that was amazing. also thighs. thighs are nice 
Honestly, it was my favourite mission overall, but I like political. Dresses woulda been nice but I understand why, technically and storywise it was a no.
Still though. Sigh.

I personally enjoyed it, though it was tough the first time through and I used a walkthrough because I get lost very easily, and all the halls and the garden got me turned around so many times.
The social interaction part was actually quite enjoyable, if only because I knew it was to trololol the Orlesians with my Dalish elven Inquisitors. My first quizzy Seiri, a mage, she hated the whole affair, but my second, Luca, a rogue, enjoyed the hell out of it because she's all into intrigue and plotting - she and Solas are a good pair on that axis.

I loved that mission. While the people were annoying, I imagined that the entire time Lavellan was laughing her ass off. It was just so much fun acting just like them but mocking them internally, and making a fool out of Florianne was sooooo satisfying.
I always imagined Dorian running interference, being vaguely distracting or something or other.
This is EXACTLY what I headcanon! Dorian probably lights something on fire, or sings the Tevinter anthem perhaps (whatever that might be).
I also liked the fact the game didn't make you put a dress on your female Inquisitors. Some other games might have. There could've been options, I suppose. But no, I didn't need a repeat of tossing my Shepard into that awkward dress at the party with Kasumi. 
Though the new version in Citadel was nicer and date night undercover with Liara

Wicked Eyes Wicked Heart provided a refreshing change of pace, a completely different type of tension and a dance with Solas (or, alternatively, a romantic decapitation). I loved it!
I normally hate politicking in real life, but this is a game, if you f*** up, you just reload. I thought it was fun.
