He's just lucky I found Dragon Age, my first great love was Harry Potter. He could have been Albus Severus.  :P

I'm trying to convince my partner that when we get dogs I can name them Garrus and Solas. I have him down for Garrus, but still working on Solas. xD Maybe Trespasser will sway him. I don't know if I could ever name my kids after a franchise, but Cailan sounds great. Preferable than the wave of Khaleesi that hit anyway. xD

Writing again, and have run into a bit of a bump. This isn't exactly Solas related, but I'm seeking the advice of the amazing fanfic pros we have in our little corner of the bioware 'verse.

So, the story guest stars Fenris. Seeing Kadan write out the Comtesse Lavellan post-game idea that we had in common has me muddling through my own, and I think I could turn it into an episodic sort of thing. Except, my Fenris is different. When I first started playing DA2, it bothered me that every elf except cameo Zevran had the same green eyes. To remedy this, I modded Fenris to have stormy blue ones and they looked fantastic on him. It was the first mod I installed and the only one I never removed or tweaked. I changed nothing else about him, but eyes are important, and now I can't imagine him with any other color.

Here is my Fenris:
Spoiler

Which brings me to my problem. I may have a clever way of writing in the modded eye color, but I don't want to be disrespectful, especially if I post it somewhere and people don't think it's clever enough. Have any of you run into a similar issue? What to do? Keep the mod in my story or write around the original recipe?

Bought and beat Trespasser in less than 4 hours last night! It was fun! I rushed through it and plan a perfect run when I have more time, but it was quite the eye-opener!

The early Solas romance does have a distinct Crapsaccharine feel to it now.

Am I the only one who liked how my romanced Lavellan and Solas ended? I thought it was beautiful and perfect!

I mean it was really lovely and melodramatic and looks like it's going somewhere ridiculous. Which means it's perfect.

I was actually quite satisfied by that scene. I wish it was a BIT more robust but what we got was enough.  I'm not feeling like "WTF MORE?" I am intrigued and excited for the next game.

Honestly? There's an easy solution to this but it may not be the one you want: just don't really bring up his eye colour at all. I know it's a big thing, in fanfic especially, to luxuriously detail eyes that way, but if you think of your daily interactions with people, even people you're close to, how often are you really paying attention to their eye colour? Nothing in your story will feel missing if you just never mention the colour at all.

Or you could just explain how the eyes make you feel....or something like "His eyes were windows into his very being, shadows of his past."  Or some such nonsense. :-P

I agree with this, you can still mention just the eyes, just not the colour.

I'm interested in hearing the workaround you've thought up myself though. (Also I think Fenris looks better with the blue eyes. Phwoar!)

Boyfriend suggested Tali at some point. It's pretty but ...no.

I have been planning to name a dog after Samwise Gamgee for many years. I just keep winding up living in no-pet places.

:( Will the blanket fort make me not miserable/furious anymore? I don't feel good, it might be lack of sleep it's probably lack of sleep OR it could be that I've developed a cross dimensional reality bond with my Lavellan and I'm getting the excess feelings of her emotional state.

Spoiler

Come on fellow Lavellans. Don't despair. Wrap yourselves up in a cozy team optimism flag, watch some Torchwood, and eat some frilly cakes. All is not lost...yet. ^_^

I think, rather than miserable or furious, the Solasmance has just left me quasi-tranquil. Solas was my first dumping experience, ever. It was horrible. I was genuinely distressed. I cried and repeatedly made my hubby promise that he'd never leave me. It was nuts that a GAME could do that to a grown woman. After the precious moment in the dank wyvern cave from Hell, Solas couldn't really hurt me--I mean my Lavellan, I mean me, I mean--I just don't know anymore! Let's just say he couldn't hurt US anymore than he already had.

I still haven't actually run a solasmanced Trespasser playthrough yet-- my canon quiz romanced blackwall and my secondary was with dorian (a lavellan and a cadash respectively, let no one say my romance choices are conventional). I'm really looking forward to it though, from everything I've seen/watched/heard. I have got a solavellan endgame save ready to go for it but I think I'm gonna wait until I finish this complete run with a quiz I'm using in a one-shot fic I'm writing right now. I absolutely did not feel the romance the first time, for a lot of reasons (not all of which were related to the game itself), but now? My body is ready.

Yeah. HE wasn't wrong.  I'm not sort of desperately clambering for the next game. We know what's coming. We know it's going to be a shh*t show.  The romance will conclude.  It's going to be bittersweet or utterly tragic.  But it's going to be good.  And depending on how he's written, may be the best Bioware romance EVAR.

I'd literally have to delete bits if I decided not mention his eye color at all, so it would be missing now. Haha. But I see your point. Sadly, I don't think I can write it that way, especially not with Fenris. His eyes are super intense, regardless of color. Right now I'm staring at the passage where I mention his eyes for the first time. I have them written as green currently, but it triggers a weird disconnect for me. No bueno.

The workaround being that when we play DA2, we are playing a story that Varric is telling - like the part where he faces Bartrand solo and is a total badass until Cass tells him to stop it. Perhaps one of the reasons most of the elves have green eyes in the game is because Varric just glossed over it, doesn't especially care, or just made an extravagant lie in Fenris' case. So when Tiger meets him, she'd be kinda expecting the green, but be pleasantly surprised by the blue if I decided to go that route.

When I had that idea, I went to change it and am now hovering over this part, wondering if I actually should. Blat. Indecision.

I would love to name my daughter Tali. The only problem is Tali in Filipino means "rope" or "to bind or tie up".

Any dogs of mine will be named Remus and Sirius.  Or Moony and Padfoot, I can go for that too.  No compromise: I've wanted that since I was in middle school :D

Spoiler

Garrus is my go-to romance for playing an actual, healthy, normal relationship.  They feel like an old married couple, stable and down-to-earth, each others' best friend and greatest supporter.

Oh yeah, we never would have if we didn't just like the name in general. The Dragon Age association is just a plus. I liked Kaidan, but I know a lot of them and my mom would never forgive me if I picked a 'popular' name.

"Not completely satisfied but utterly intrigued" is literally the most accurate thing I've heard. I'm crossing all my fingers that the wait is SLIGHTLY shorter than the 3-4 years. I'm sure eventually Mass Effect or something will catch my attention enough, but for now everything is Solas. *sigh*

And everything hurts.  But the good sort of hurt :D

I used to prefer more escapism in my RPGs; I installed so many romance mods for BG2, and 99% of them had happily ever afters into the sunset with sexy menfolk :P  But now I just want the story to be good, no matter how long I wind up spending in the hellspiral.
