I've given up trying to backread so I'll jump in here.

I'm someone who cannons that she didn't move on.  I'm also someone who cannons that they didn't sleep together.  I'm also someone who cannons my Lavellan being 100% independent and a feminist.

I like that someone called it the epic love of her life.  I imagine my Lavellans is in her (late 20's by trespasser) and is still a *gasp* virgin.  Cause that's how I roll also I got married a week before I turned 25, waited until my husband and would have waited longer if not for him.  I am 100% a feminist, have a master's degree and in general love myself/my life with no insecurities.

I figure that each persons cannon lavellans are probably guided in some part by their own lives, because they want to see themselves in it or they want a character that is completely different.  Either way is absolutely cool.

Also....I figure the two two things.  1. Inky's been super busy with political minutiae the last few years and 2. she never broke up with him and as the epic love of her life she holds out hope that when he gets his head out of his butt that she can make things work.  Glad that the devs gave us an option to either end the romance or 'essentially continue it'.  This allows everyone to get what they think they should out of it.

Bioware....you guys seriously rock my socks!

Just my two cents on what those people giving flak on tumblr might be thinking.

Moving on with life doesn't necessarily mean loving someone else or even sleeping with someone else. It means getting up in the morning, going to work, socializing with friends, keeping up on your hobbies. It's like when someone you love dies. The relationship doesn't end (at least on your end) just because they are no longer around. You keep living, but you also keep them in your heart. If there was a chance to reunite you might hold on to that relationship--that love--even tighter.

Solas dumped her, but he called her vhenan as he did so. He told her he couldn't say he didn't care. Then he says "what we had was real" right before he leaves in the base game. Yes, he ended their courtship, but the love never ended. Why he broke it off is more important than the fact that he did. He was hurting himself as much or more so than he was hurting Lavellan. I suppose players who take offense to Lavellan sleeping around in fanfic probably think her giving up on Solas is selfish. It depends how serious/clingy/empathetic/idealistic your Lavellan is.

Possibly, but my objection really is to it being considered the romantic ideal when acting as though the relationship is still on in some way is a massive, massive consent issue. Like, I normally hate this sort of thing, but if you were to flip the genders and it was a man being as hung up on a woman as some of the fics/art/meta I've seen? It's scary to me.

Like, writing/pondering/etc things that you know are not okay is fine with me, that's my stock in trade, but when people are slinging 'you've clearly never been in a long-term relationship' etc over expressing the notion that remaining obsessed with an ex for so extended a period of time is a bit creepy, ehhh.

It can be done, it can be done well, I just oftentimes feel a weird failure to separate the self from the fiction.

Let's be honest here: mostly my Lavellan wanted to get laid again :D  She's capable of decoupling sex and romantic love by this point.

And as a player (and occasional fanfic scribbler), I wanted her to have some fun.  She rarely gets the chance to be silly, playful, and easygoing in Solas stuff because I've just been having trouble writing fluff for that character pairing after Trespasser.

Seriously. I wrote one of my Lavellans having drunken rebound sex with Fenris of all characters, almost immediately after the breakup, and she's pretty clearly not interested in a relationship at that point. She never really gets over it, but she is trying.

Your character doesn't have to dry up and blow away without the love of one man (or maybe they do *shrug* you do you). There are so many different ways people react to grief and loss, and so much dramatic potential in each and every variation.

My Lavellan had partners and a family -- babies and everything -- in her past. She was content where she was in her life when she met Solas, and then the bastard blindsided her and she fell in love. When it ended, she accepted it and went on doing what she had done before Solas -- lived her life, did her job, and was content to be by herself. She missed him and was confused, but was neither pruding nor pining. She can take or leave the physical side of a relationship, so unless someone else comes along who can knock her sideways with the same emotional and spiritual depth Solas gave her, she'll sit by herself in the nun corner and not give two s**** what anyone thinks about it.

Isn't the freedom of headcanon and character creation awesome?

Oh oh oh... I forgot Ameridan. Yes. My Lavellan was really strongly attracted to Ameridan. But that was just a physical thing, because damn if they didn't make him look fine. -_-

Right, mine did as well (well, no babies), and one relationship that lasted five years and was arguably more important to her life as a whole than Solas. Or similarly so, but in very different ways. But she didn't move fast after that one either. But she just lives her life, even after heartbreak. And in her position after Corypheus, it's not like she didn't need to be careful, wielding power and dealing with politics and potential sabotage and all. It can isolate you more sometimes.

The thing is, people move on with their lives in different ways and at different speeds. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to go and have flings or even be interested in other relationships at the time. Two years isn't 10 years. It's not Lavellan becoming Miss Havisham. You can heal and move forward without jumping into something else, or even want casual flings and such.

I'm cool with whatever people want to headcanon for their characters but this notion that if you haven't hooked up with others you're pining away or haven't moved on with your life is a bit silly. Everyone operates differently.

Yes. I think it's excellent that different folk have their Lavellans react differently. Especially since I'd never see some of the Solas responses on youtube if not for all the angry, or over him Lavellans out there.

My little elfy is one who's broken heart in the clearing never really healed. Over time, of course it hurt less and it never affected her ability to fight or lead or even laugh and goof around. But I imagine little things would bring that ache back. Like a glance in the mirror on a particularly lonely night, or a wayward stroll through the rotunda and gazing overlong at one of his frescos. I never pictured her as pining away but she never quite got over him. She never will. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the whole true love thing.

And wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva…

I hope you're not thinking I'm stepping someone else's headcanon. I used positive and negative adjectives (like empathetic and clingy) to describe a Lavellan who "stays true to Solas" to be diplomatic. I suppose my diplomacy skills are lacking.

I happen to be one of those "didn't move on" folks myself because of the epic love you mentioned. My headcanon is no better than anyone else's. I only wish to facilitate understanding amongst the folks here. Seeking understanding of other people's perspectives is a good thing, I think.

I used the words you used because I happened to had just read your post. Nothing more.

My point is no one should EVER call anyone "silly" for believing something other people feel is unrealistic. You aren't them and you don't get to dictate what they believe.

My Hawke's dead too :D  But she romanced Anders, and I think my Lavellan would sooner throw Anders from the walls of Skyhold than sleep with him.  She's got enough crazy in her life, kthnxbai.

My Hawke isn't dead, but I wouldn't be able to kill off Hawke if I tried. She's (sarcastically) making friends with spirits in the Fade.

Lavellan playthrough - Alistair is King with a mistress elf, Romanced Fenris so Stroud can suck it (sorry Stroud!)

Trevalyn playthrough - Wanted to see Alistair as a Warden with my elf, so knowing that Hawke romanced Sebastien.  I felt almost bad about it after some of the DLC banter with Hawke's siblings basically implying that she'll find a way to charm him out of his pants...but only a little bit.  Cause Sebastien isn't worth sacking Alistair.

Yeah, my poor Lelaila Hakwe had to die because she was both good-intentioned and competent (for a Hawke), and we can't have that in our heroes. Now I'm so worried about Fenris. Don't go meet Solas, Fenris!!!!!

So...am I the only one who google screenshots and is trying to compare the faces of trespasserSolas and daiSolas?
The changes are...subtle yet in a whole improved him a lot. Well, maybe not 'improve', I still love the old one, but I don't think anyone could call him ugly now?

I wonder what magic that is.

I think it has more to do with refined facial animations we got in patch prior to release of Trespasser - I can see the difference in faces of all companions even in the base game.

Still, they only changed some stuff "under the hood", but didn't change any animations themselves for the main game - in Trespasser, on the other hand, they could take full advantage of what was changed and create expressions or motions with more of a range or subtlety to them, hence everyone looks better (though it's obvious that they've put extra work on the last scene, considering how important it is for the plot and establishing Solas as the future antagonist/tragic antihero).

How I like to look at it, is the way Buffy was with Angel(boo hiss). LIke...clearly the love of her life but that was a mess. So she had other very important partners.  Some she may have stayed with.  But she recognized his importance and if things were a different way...then maybe. And he was the same.  I never thought THAT was creepy. Just that Angel was boring and worthless and clearly Spike was the best.

Yeah, Fenris isn't all that into elfiness, but he is into upending slavery, so if he sold it to him on that angle, he'd be all aboard.
