Ehhh, it's not that great.  Mostly I watch DVDs of American TV. We have Doctor Who (and that's pretty shaky at the moment (love Capadli, hate the scripts)) but that's about it.  Being Human was pretty great, but that ended a few years ago now.  I can't really think of much original programming in the last few years that I've enjoyed.

 

 

Skins is good. Misfits was ok. Top Gear was good until the thing. The whole -having- to pay for TV thing sucks a bit considering the internet is the best way to watch anything these days. Solution: just don't own a tv. xD

On an unrelated note:
GUYS. My computer is built --- I upgraded from a 4 core to a 6 core and it is AMAHHHZING. I was kind of hoping it'd solve my crashing issues. It didn't. But I did find out what was causing it?! Lunge and Slash is borked for a lot of people with the changes they implemented with Trespasser. Cassandra was basically breaking my game

The role Dorian's VA played in one episode of the odd Greg James comedy Man Down will forever haunt me.

I had the opposite experience with my Lavellan.  The rest of the Inner Circle--her friends--make her feel connected to the world.  Her complicated relationship with Solas, especially in the aftermath of Trespasser, makes her feel isolated.

At first, she was nervous and wary around all these heavily armed shemlen, and leaned heavily on Solas for support, like your Lavellan and others'.  But she gradually came to understand that Andrastianism doesn't equal fanaticism, that Sera's as much a product of her upbringing as anyone else, that the people around her were as frightened and in need of hope as she was.  Interaction with people who are different from you breaks down a lot of preconceived notions.  It was an interesting parallel character development between her and Solas; she came to see everyone as people, and the Inquisition as a second clan, right as Solas realized that Lavellan herself "changed everything."

 

I think the difference is that my Lavellan embraced that change and Solas didn't.  By Trespasser, she has a wider circle of empathy than any of my other PCs, and so a wider sense of connection, family, and belonging.  Her feelings of isolation come from the things that set her apart: the Anchor (and resultant missing arm), her titles and reputation, and her complex relationship with a man who's actually trying to destroy her world.

 

I was more of thinking around the beginning of Inquisition. For the first half of it Lavellan looked lonely and isolated to me. At least until Varric sprung up the Wicked Grace scene that it started to seem like she belonged.

Did my Lavellan 'get over' or 'move on' from Solas?  No I don't think either of them did, not because they are pining after him, but because they are so high profile that meeting and finding, and trusting someone again is incredibly difficult.

 

I'm sure that even for non-human quizzies, there's some pressure for political marriage and alliance.  After all, the blessed Herald of Andraste, savior of the south, slayer of Corypheus?  She's a political jackpot, no matter what shape her ears are 

 

To a certain extent, I think Josie and Leliana shield my Lavellan from that as best they can, especially while the Solas breakup is still raw.  Viv's no help in this regard; she'd probably encourage quizzy to do it for political advantage

Oh my freaking god! The first half, the first half sound EXACTLY like Dorian, accent and all.

 

The best thing about it was that I had been watching all of Man Down in the background whilst playing DAI. Doing all the sidequests across the maps when banter and music weren't playing got a tad lonely so I kept throwing on TV shows to pass the time.

 

My reaction when Dorian's voice cropped up outside of the game was one of utter confusion. Then I couldn't stop laughing. His character in that episode is so ridiculous and all I can hear was Dorian saying the lines. 

 

oh my days.

 

The other VA mocking comes from a show my mum watched about a vicar that is so twee and silly. I kept walking through the living room and mocking her choice of TV watching.

Definitely a problem with my Lavellan too. Kind of hard to be in a position of power and go dating. Being a paranoid crazy person doesn't help either.

Although if everything goes south and Solas dies or goes full evil, maybe Varric will eventually introduce my girl to Fenris. Hopefully Lavellan will have fully matured at that point, otherwise she might be a bit too unpredictable for him. Fenris deserves a little stability, not more drama.

 

But, I don't know if my Lavellan will ever really need fluff. I think she'd be pretty happy playing crazy aunt to everyone's precious children.

The bad thing is: My warrior lady would probably actually DO so for a political advantage. She already has an outlook of "I'm nothing more than the means to an end." hammered into her head. First with the anchor (which she loved because YAY magic she could actually use!) and then also with the whole Herald of Andraste and Inquisitor thing. Even IF you disband, your Inquisitor is certainly that high society joker card for political allies. She would certainly hate it because she's a very rough woman in general and hotheaded quite often, but she would do it. She wanted to be Keeper, couldn't do it because she posesses no magical abilities. She wanted to be a simple warrior, couldn't be it because of the anchor. Now all that's left is the very firm belief that she HAS TO change the way elves are treated - but she also wants to remain in a powerful position. So yeah, she wouldn't back out of a marriage for political gains, at all. Sudden fanfiction idea.

Ironically, last night I starting writing a oneshot that involved Lavellan recruiting Fenris to spy on Solas. Makes sense to me. However, Lavellan isn't completely sure he won't double cross her.

 

I don't know about Fenris being all about Solas though. He is a mage after all.

My Warden, Teyren Tabris, sent her cousin Soris (who I think would be completely against Solas's plan since he's married to a human) to be a spy while my Lavellan's lethallan, Thalia (made up), chose to go to too. I imagine with the help of the disbanded Inquisition members like Leliana (Divine Victoria), Cullen, and Varric the most influential people in Thedas's present times would gather and work together to protect Thedas against Solas and his agents.

 

I think Fenris would be against Solas's plans and not just because he is in a romance with my Hawke . I mean, Fenris does HATE slavery and loathe the way the elves are treated but he also strongly dislikes or even hates magic and his distaste for Merrill is not only because of her use of blood magic but also her inability to leave the legends of a great elven nation behind her and recognize how much she already has. That's the biggest flaw with characters like Solas, Merrill, and even Corypheus-- they dwell too much on what could of been, or what should be, instead of what they have (er, more for Solas and Merrill for that latter part). As Dumbledore says "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live". I, personally, can't stand when people are like "I wish I was alive during blah blah period or it was so much better blah blah years ago", it wasn't. Things were just bad in different ways. Fenris is like Zevran in that he wants the elves to stand up for themselves. Merrill and Solas will always blame the fall of Arlathan and the Dales (for Merrill) on the poor condition of elves, but it's not. The elves are treated lesser to humans because that's how many humans see them, and I'm sure many elves have been indoctrinated to think that of themselves too. 

 

I adore Solas, he's one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, but I think Thedas would be a better place if more people shared Sera's view (not the crazy ones the one were she thinks people are just people are just people). I hate the Us vs Them mentality in the real world so I don't care for it in the video game much either. Although I've played many characters that were proud of their heritage and even some that were snotty about it (F!Mahariel). And wow did I go off a-ranting.

 

I have lots of feels.

 

Added thought, I don't think Merrill would agree with Solas either. She has too many other friends now, and they've become her new family. I'd be sorely disappointed in her if she gave them up just because she's an elf.

 

Extra added thought, I've been working hard in Thedas for the past decade to excite change for minority groups (casteless, elves, mages, and more recently spirits) so it really peeves me off that Solas is doing all this now. With recent elven heroes like the Hero of Ferelden and the Inquisitor and powerful activists for elf rights like Divine Victoria, Briala, and even Bann Shianni (if that wasn't retconned) the future of Thedas is looking at a shocking change in the next couple decades. That isn't even starting with mages either (both my Hawke and Lavellan were mages). The poor casteless get almost no support because nobody thinks of them, but I did choose Bhelen to rule just for them. WHY DOES SOLAS CHOOSE NOW, WHEN WE'RE SO CLOSE TO REAL CHANGE!?!? Rhetorical question, it's because he's hypocritical, arrogant, and ignorant when it comes to the people of today, and yes, he's a good bit racist. 

 

AND I FLUFFING LOVE HIM ANYWAY!! He's probably one the most dynamic, frustrating, and grey characters I've ever had the chance of encountering in any video game, book, or TV show.  

 

And I definitely should be doing school work right now -.- I'm blaming Solasitis.

That's totally fair; the faithful weren't exactly subtle about it 

 

And my Lavellan never quite got over the "You're the Chosen One" nonsense either.  She hated being their Herald, but at the same time, I think she recognized that they didn't do it out of malice.  They had that response because they needed someone to believe in.  And she can empathize with that desire for hope, even if it drives her nuts being the object of it.

 

It also helps that your companions (for the most part) outgrow seeing you as solely the Herald, and come to see you as a person.  Even Cass, who pushed for the Herald thing hardest, eventually thinks of you as yourself first, and the Herald second.  Varric was the second person whom my Lavellan managed to befriend, mostly because he just treated her like a normal girl.

While Solas's position is frustrating, I can see why he doesn't think of political change (elf rights, King Bhelen, elven heroes, etc.) as actual change.  He thinks there's something fundamentally wrong with the very fabric of the world.  What does he care if Briala is Marquess of the Dales?  It doesn't restore the immortality of his people.  It doesn't recreate the marvels of the old empire.  At the very best, it gives them a pale imitation of the power, glory, and spiritual depth that was once taken for granted.  At least from his perspective; I think modern Thedosians would very much beg to differ
